Welcome to 8th Grade!


This course is designed to help you achieve a deeper understanding of mathematics and its uses in
the world around you. Throughout this course you will be exposed to many new ideas and concepts in
mathematics. I have high expectations for you. I believe that you can succeed and achieve this school
year, not only in this course but in all subjects. Your hard work will be required but I know all of you are
capable of doing your best and meeting my expectations!

Grading Policy
Tests / Projects:

45%

A test will be given after each unit that we cover.


Quizzes: 25%
Quizzes will be given often between tests as we cover
new material. Some will be scheduled and some will be
unannounced, so always be prepared!
Homework: 10%
Homework will be checked on a regular basis..
Late homework will not receive credit.
Daily Grades: 10%

Daily grades will be comprised of classwork, IXL, Digits, and


other in class assignments.
Notebook: 10%
A notebook check will be completed at the end of each unit.
(More in formation to follow.)

HOMEWORK IS
IMPORTANT!!!
If you do not complete your homework, you will receive a ZERO and it
cannot be made up.
Homework needs to be completed
when it is assigned. The practice is
so important for mastery of the skills in
Algebra. You must show ALL work to
receive full credit for homework. The
process is just as important as the
answer.

Classroom Rules
Be respectful.

Classroom Procedures
Beginning of class
Complete the warm-up/Digits assignment
while I take roll and check homework.

Be responsible.
Be prepared and on time for class everyday with the
REQUIRED materials.
Follow all school LIMITS*

Consequences
If a student chooses not to follow the rules, I will take action in
these steps:

NEED HELP???
I am available for after school help each Thursday after school.
This will be from 3:454:30 in room 309. During this time I can
help you review for test and quizzes, go over homework, and
practice the skills we are learning in class. Please let me know if
you are coming for help ahead of time.

Tardy
If you enter the classroom tardy,
the school tardy policy will be followed.

Make-Up Work
Absent students are responsible for
making up all missed assignments. All
students are responsible for collecting
missing assignments.
Any missed major/minor assignments will
be posted in the classroom. Missed assignments must be made up within 5
school days of an absence or a zero will
be received.

Dismissal
The bell does not dismiss youI do! At
the end of class please return all school
calculators.

Reminders in the Classroom

No hats.
No cell phones, headphones, or electronics.
No food/drink.

Chromebooks
You are expected to bring you Chromebook to class DAILY. It needs to be charged and fully operating when
you come to class. If you do not have your Chromebook and an assignment has to be completed on the Chromebook you will receive a ZERO until you make it up AFTER school.
