The NI Instrumentation Lab provides students and faculty with industry-standard, flexible
instrumentation hardware and software for measurement and automation. It aims to teach
the elementary circuits and core concepts of computer-based instrumentation and analysis of
elementary circuits. The students can also use the Lab for their design projects.
The Lab comprises of NI ELVIS a generic platform which features an integrated suite
consisting of 12 most commonly used laboratory instruments, in a compact form factor. The
suite includes the Oscilloscope, Digital Multimeter, Function Generator, Variable Power
Supply and Bode Analyzer among others. The EWB Multisim software can be used to deisgn
custom instrumentation amplifiers, filters, multiplexer circuits and simulate them for their
time domain and frequency domain characteristics. Once the circuit design is finalized, the
Ultiboard software can be used for PCB layout. Alternately the same circuit can be hooked on
to the breadboard module which is housed in the ELVIS for connecting to the instruments on
the ELVIS or to sensors directly and the instrumentation circuit blocks can be analysed for its
performance online.
