CLASS POLICIES 2016-2017

A. Safety policy
Safety first. Refer to the safety contract for details. If there is a breach of safety, you will be
asked to leave the classroom and will not be allowed to participate in the activity for the rest of
the class.
No food in the lab on lab days. Only bottled drinks allowed.
B. Technology policy
Computers and cell phones may be used for educational purposes when allowed by the
teacher.
C. Language Policy
English is our primary mode of communication when we are working together as a group.
D. Grading policy
Your grade will be updated on Gradebook as soon as it is marked. When there is no mark on
your portal, it means that the assignment has not been graded yet. Should you wish to discuss
your grades, please set up an appointment with me. Except when individual conferences are
scheduled during class time, we will not discuss grades in class.
E. Ethics Policy
In many cases, you are expected to perform independently in the class unless otherwise
specified. Your major assignments will be submitted to turnitin.com for check of plagiarisms. If
exceptions are found, the principal will be immediately informed and parents will be called. The
following and any variation of these are unacceptable: copying from the internet, paraphrasing
someone elses work (student, parent, or text), falsifying data, copying homework or data from
another student, or cheating on class work meant to be individual.
F. Missed Class, Late work, Extensions, Extra credit, Test re-seat
All quarterly assessments must be handed in before the end of the quarterunless
approved by MS/HS principal.
Missed class: Should you miss a class, it is your responsibility to catch up. Email me or stop
by the class before the next class period to ask what you missed. You are expected to submit
any assignments, which were due on the day of your absence on the first class day upon your
return. Likewise, if you miss any test/quiz during your absence, you will be expected to take the
test/quiz on the day that you return, whether you are prepared for it or not.

Late work: All work that is not submitted on the due date will automatically be entered as a zero
in the students gradebook. However, all late work can be submitted to the teacher within two
weeks of the due date (which is the date for the assignment in gradebook). During the last two
weeks of the quarter all work must be turned in on time. Deadline extensions do not apply
during the last two weeks of the quarter.
Extensions: The above policy stands in most cases. However, if there is a particular difficulty in
meeting the deadline, please discuss with me prior to the deadline (at least 3 days in advance).
Depending on the situation, appropriate extensions will be provided.
Extra credit: There is no extra credit for this course. Your mark will reflect the consistency of
your effort throughout the term.
Re-seats: Re-seats are only possible for exams with a score of 81% or below. In order to be
eligible to re-seat the exam, students must accomplish the following:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

All work from the unit must have been turned in on time.
A reflection is written describing why a re-seat is deserved.
All questions on the exam are answered correctly.
The re-seat must be taken within one week of receiving your mark.
The first question on the re-seat will be taken from the original exam, and
must be answered correctly for the rest of the exam to be graded. The
purpose is to give you a question you should be comfortable with to start and
insure that you have properly prepared for the exam.

G. Restroom/water break
Restroom/water breaks are only allowed during individual/group activities, not during teacherdirected instruction.
H. Extra help
I am always here to help you. You can drop by during the above office hours, or you can
schedule an appointment to meet with me and I will be here for you. In any case that you cannot
make the scheduled time, please contact me prior to the meeting and we can reschedule.
Otherwise, I will expect you to be here at the time scheduled and may not be able to schedule
an alternate time. For e-mail responses, allow at least 48 hours excluding weekends.
