The purpose for this document is to provide guidance to the content of the Alfresco
Certified Engineer exam to allow you to prepare for the exam.

2. Exam Format
There are 60 questions on this examination. You are given 60 minutes to complete the
exam and 15 minutes to complete the exam sign in form, non-disclosure and other
paperwork.

3. Exam Test Competencies


The following lists the test competencies that are expected of an Alfresco Certified
Engineer and the topics covered by each competency.

About Alfresco Certification


Alfresco is committed to creating a professional certification to compare with the highest
standards in the industry.
The purpose for this document is to provide guidance to the content of the Alfresco Certified
Engineer exam to allow you to prepare for the exam.
The exam is based upon the knowledge areas to support the job tasks required of an Alfresco
developer to be able to successfully develop and deploy production Alfresco systems.
Each question is reviewed by a panel of subject matter experts. Each question is vetted for
technical accuracy, relevance and clarity.
Candidates are tested on their ability to:
Understand the Alfresco architecture and Repository, including subsystems.
Understand, design and create content models and custom object types and aspects.
Package and deploy Alfresco extensions and modules.
Configure and develop extensions for the Alfresco Share Web Client.
Develop applications and Services using the Alfresco APIs and Web scripts.
Understand, define, customize and deploy Activiti Workflows and Task Models into
Alfresco One.
Connect to external applications using REST Services and protocols like CMIS.

Exam Format
There are 60 questions on this examination. You are given 60 minutes to complete the exam
and 15 minutes to complete the exam sign in form, non-disclosure and other paperwork. A
passing score of 70% is a requirement to be recognized as an Alfresco Certified Engineer
(ACE).
A provision for candidates of non-English speaking countries has been added to the exam
starting July 15th, 2015. This provision will give you an extra 15 minutes to complete the exam.

Question Format
The candidate selects from one or more response options to answer a question. A response is
considered correct when it accurately completes the statement or answers the question.
Test item formats used in this examination may be one of the following:
Multiple Choice Select one option that best answers the question or completes a
statement.
Multiple Responses Select more than one option that best answers the question or
completes a statement. The text states how many options are correct.

Scenario Read the statement or question. From the response options, select the
option(s) that represent the most correct or best answer(s) given the information
provided.

Alfresco Training
There is no formal requirement to complete any training and these are not pre-requisites to
taking the exam, but you should ensure that your knowledge matches the learning you would
have achieved with the items outlined here.

Hands-on Experience
Please keep in mind that while training offers a solid foundation when preparing for any of the
Alfresco Certification exams, it is not required and does not guarantee a passing score in the
exam. Hands-on experience is required:
Experience developing in JAVA and JavaScript.
Knowledge of XML, FreeMarker template language and Spring.
Other resources that can help prepare for taking the exam include seeking study groups or
asking others how they perform the same tasks, research white papers, read blogs and wiki
pages referencing the topics that are included on the exam.

Certification Expiration Policy


As major product versions are released, we continue to update our training curriculum to
accommodate the new enhancements and features that come along with these releases.
In order to ensure your certification is delivering value to your Alfresco installation and your
career development, we follow an industry standard approach.
Existing certifications will expire two years after the release of the next major revision of the
exam.

For example, any candidate that earned an existing Alfresco Certification (ACE or ACA) it will
expire in November 2017, as a new major version exam releases in November 2015.

Retake Policy
We recommend a 14 day period before a second attempt. For third and subsequent attempts
a 3 month waiting period is recommended.
If a candidate passes the exam, they cannot take the exam again until a new major revision of
the certification is released.
