Duringthissemester,IhadplannedtomeetwithandinterviewtheDirectorof
Instructionaspartofmygoaltolearnaboutplanningandreview.Thismeetingwent
well,leavingmewithagreaterunderstandingofexactlyhowtheirdistrictuses
teachersaspartoftheplanningprocess.Ileftwithideasforhowtobetterwork
collaborativelywithteachers,asIwanttoutilizesimilarmethods.Oneofthebiggest
gripesIwouldhearfromteacherswhenworkingwiththeminthefieldwasthat
administrationwasalwaysdisconnectedfromwhattheywereaskingteacherstodo.I
thinkthismayhavebeensomeofmyhesitationatholdinganadministrativeposition
priortogoingthroughthisprogramaswell,asIamstillteachingbecauseIdontwant
tolosesightofwhatittakestoteach.Byseeinghowthisdistrictusesa10+2contract
inwhichthecurriculumspecialistsareactuallyteachersduringtheyearandonlywork
oncurriculuminthesummer,IbecameinspiredasIhadneverthoughtofthat
approach.Iplantotakethisideawithmeinthefuture,asitreallydoeshelpbalance
thedisconnectbetweenadministrationandinstruction.Additionally,Iworkedthis
semesteroncreatingadocumentthatwasatipsheetforparentsbaseduponproblems
thedistrictwasexperiencing,whichallowedmetoconsiderthecultureofthe
communitythattheschoolwasinandallowedmetodemonstratehowtoberesponsive
toadistrictsneeds.Ihadtobeorganizedinmyapproachforthis,allowingenough
timetoresearchandreviewitwithmymentor,whichhelpedmeworkonmy
organizationalability.
