Examining Spatial &

Experiential Progression

Design Statement
We all have the ability to design and create. But what
makes a design turn from an idea in our mind to a creation
in our hands is the artist. Our family roots and what we
surround our selves with shapes who we are. We are all
different. Its a fact and its those who embrace it that have
peerless designs and natural creativity. It is through my art
that I show who I am and where I come from.
I have always been interested in the small parts that make
up an elaborate design. I have found that my eyes fall to
the details of material and texture while studying how they
correlate and compliment each other. To create these
elements of design in my own creations I look towards
nature for inspiration. I have always felt that the constantly
changing environment around us can be an endless
resource to bringing unique components to designs across
the board. I am very interested in creating small parts of
design that still give a significant impact on an entire
creation. From the fabric on a chair that is made from single
strands of fiber but seen all the way across a room.

It is the big picture that is made of tiny details that keeps me eager to
continue designing a future that is true to who I am.

A little can go a long way

What may look like a basic
practice floor plan can still be
applied to real life architectural
scenarios.
There are many homes and
cabins that are built on the
foundation of a six wall floor
plan. Having the ability to
design such a small living space
is just as impressive as filling
a city block with sky scrapers.
This is because as well as being
completely functional another
success to small design is the
impact and contrast it can have
in its environment.

much with so little.

Assignment:
Simple floor plans can teach a beginner the very basics of structure and
form. Along with this they educate
you on basic drawing skills and how
you convey your pencil marks to
make a coherent idea that can be expressed to an audience with a strong
impact.

trees. Jones Street runs through the heart of Savannah making this
house a beautiful treasure in the thick of the historic district.

There is a beauty in the integration of design and

construction when the relationship between
appearance and purpose is intertwined with
structure and layout.

Studying
The Clarence Thomas Center

ink drawing

Studying The Clarence Thomas center

was a way to understand how to draw
different parts of an interior. Three different drawings make up this section; a
floor plan, an interior elevation, and an
axonometric projection drawing.
To find correct placement of all
intereior components like walls and
furntire there was a very tedious
measurment process. Making sure
walls and doors alligned with the same
measurments from room was both a
challenge when they did not but very
rewarding when they did.

for a very informative set, allowing the
viewer to understand The Clarence
Thomas building with very little imagination.

Jesolo Lido Pool Vila

ink drawing
Assignment: Draw the floor plan of the Jesolo
Lido Pool Vila and focus on the importance of
line weight.
Line weight allows for a more legiable
floor plan. Thicker line weights can
represent parts of a desgin that are
meant to be more concret while thinner line weights represent less permanent objects. For example, support
walls are represented by a thickest line
weight to show structual importance
and the cut plane.

To show a level of importance built

in furniture becomes a medium line
weight. In this case this includes cabinets throughout the kitchen and bed
rooms. Then, the movable furniture is
done in the lightest pen weight to show
that it is mostly stationary but can be
moved if chosen to.

To express depth the floor is done in

pencil. It also shows that in this design
the floor is not there to distract from
any other design but merly be a sleek
look that carries through the entire
home.

Collage: A collage of pixels forming

into an image represents how somthing so complex can also be very simple.

to the home owners desire.

B/ Photograph from Archdaily.com captures the back pool villa and the grand
glass windows that allow a graceful
flow between the exterior and interior of

a living space can be with an open floor
plan that has a privacy wing for the
living quarters.

Chicken Point Cabin intrigue me

because of how furniture pieces are
built in to the structure. The kitchen
table and island is a massive element
that connects the open living area to
a common area. The island is made
of a massive piece of raw wood that
gives the cabin a sense of the outdoors
inside.

This home also caught my attention

because of the large landscape window. This caught my eye because of
how smoothly it allows the structure
to be connected to its environment
but also because of how the actual
window is able to open.

Throughout this class I learned an extraordinary amount about the process of conveying a design
in an informative and clear way. I have found you must find the balance between freedom and
structure if you want a design to be executed correctly. As a furniture designer I have found that
even though the focus was architectural studies all the same technicalities still apply to any design
that must be built.
