BASEMENT
MASONARY
FOR
FONDATION
AND
The stone shall be, sound and durable of approved quarry. Stone shall be
hammer dressed to secure close joint so that stones when laid will come in to close
approximately. Stone shall be fairly equal stone shall be fitted to the adjacent stones.
No stone shall be less than 15 cm in size.stone with round surfaecee shall not be used
Face stone shall be comparatively larger and uniform in size and colour to
give a good appearance and breadth face stones shall be greater than the height. face
stone should tied in to wall to the sufficient depth of bond well. Stone shall be laid
with broader face downward to give good bedding. Face joint shall e broken and face
of wall shall be truly in plumb. Corner stone of quoins should be a good stone and
dressed to a correct angle and lay as headers and structures.
on being struck and shall be free from cracks, chips, flaws and lumps of any kind.
Brick shall not absorb water more than one-sixth of their weight after one hour of
socking by immersing water. Bricks shall have minimum crushing strength of 105Kg
per sq cm.
Mortar- Mortar shall be specified and materials of mortar shall be of standard
specification. For the cement mortar cement shall be fresh Portland specification clean
and free from organic and foreign matters. Proportion of cement sand mortar may be
(1:3 to 1:6 specified). Materials of mortar shall be measured to have the required
proportion with measuring box and first mixed dry to have a uniform colour in a clean
masonry platform and the mixed by adding clean water slowly and regularly to have
workable and mixed thoroughly by turning at least three times.
Soaking of brick- Bricks shall be fully soaked in clean water by submerging in a tank
for a period of 12 hours immediately before use. Soaking shall be continued till air
bubbling cased.
Lying- Brick shall be bounded and laid in English bond unless otherwise specified.
Every course shall be truly horizontal and wall shall be truly in plumb. Vertical joints
of consecutive course shall not come directly over one another; vertical joints in
alternative course shall come directly over one another.
Curing-The brick work shall be kept wet for a period of at least 10 days after lying.
At the end of day`s works of the tops of the wall shall be flooded with water by
making small weak mortar edging to contain at least 2.5 cm deep water
Protection- The brick work shall be protected from the effect of sun, rain, frost, etc.,
during the construction and until such time it is green and likely to be damaged.
Scaffolding-necessary and suitable scaffolding shall be provided to facilities the
construction of brick wall. Scaffolding shall be sound and strong and supports and
members sufficiently strong as to with stand all load likely to come upon them.
Measurement- Brick shall be measured in cu m(cu ft). Different kinds of brick work
with different mortar shall be taken under separate item. The thickness of wall shall be
taken as multiple of half brick as hall brick 10cm, 1 brick 20cm,1 brick 30cm and so
on.
WOOD WORK
All wood work of which the scantlings exceeds 20 cm in section and which is
not specially molded or curved under carpenters work. This includes all timber works
in choukhats of door and windows. Timber shall be specified and it will be of best
quality, well seasoned and free from cups, knots, warps, cracks and other defects. The
scantling shall be give in the direction of grains. All joints shall be strongly fitted and
true. All wood works shall be planned and neatly, correctly finished to exact
dimension. Measurement of thick wood shall be made in cu m and thin wood in sq m.
wood works includes sawing, planning, joining nails, screws etc. painting of wood
work shall be measured under special item.
GLAZING
Glass shall be of the quality and free from bubbles, scratches and other
imperfection the thickness of glass shall be 3mm or as specified. The rebate shall be
painted before glasses are fixed.
and capable of being bent without fracture. Bar shall be hooked and bent accurately
and placed in position as per the design and drawing.
Centering and shuttering : These are made with timber or steel plate close and tight
to prevent leakage or mortar, with necessary props, bracing and wedges sufficiently
strong and stable and should not yield on laying concrete and made in such a way that
they can be slackened removed gradually without disturbing the concrete.
Proportion of cement concrete : Cement concrete shall be of 1:2:4 proportion by
volume for slab, beam and lintel, and 1:1.5:3 proportion for columns unless otherwise
specified.
Materials for concrete : Cement, sand and coarse aggregate shall be same as for
cement concreate in item 4. The stone aggregate shall usually be 20mm to 6mm gauge
Unless otherwise specified . for heavily reinforced concrete members as in the case of
ribs of main beams the maximum size of aggregate should usually be restricted to
5mm less than the minimum cleaqr distance between the main bars or 5mm less than
the minimum cover to the reinforcement whichever is smaller. If reinforcement is
widely spaced, limitation of the size of the aggregate may not be important
Mixing : Mixing shall be done in a masonry platform or sheet iron tray in the
proportion of 1:2:4 by measuring with measuring boxes.
WHITE WASHING
Fresh white slaked at site of work should be mixed with sufficient water to make a
thin cream .the approximate quantity of water required in making the cream is 5 liters
of water to 1 kg of lime .the surface should be dry and thoroughly cleaned from dust
and dirt after cleaning the white wash shall be applied two coats .for final coat blue
pigment powder should be mixed to the required quantity with the lime water to give
a bright white surface
PLASTERING WITH CEMENT MORTAR
The proportion of cement of sand shall be as per specified way be 1:3 to 1:6 the
materials shall be done first dry on platform then mixed with water and shall be
measured with boxes to have the proportion .first sand is spread on the platform and
required quantity of cement is spread on the top of the sand and the whole is dry .the
mixture shall be formed roughly into a cone shape .sand water is added slowly and
then the whole mixed toughly to have a uniform color and consistency
POINTING
The joint of the brickwork shall be raked out to a depth of 20mm and the surface of
the wall washed and cleaned and kept wet for two days before pointing .the materials
of mortar are cement and sand ,or kankar lime as of standard specifications .mortar
shall be applied in the joints slightly shall be standard specifications .mortar shall be
applied in the joints slightly in the excess and pressed by a proper tool of the required
shape .extra mortar if any is removed and surface finished .the measurement shall be
taken in sq m
