Anatomy & Physiology

Anatomy is to physiology as geography is to history; it describes the theatre of

events. Jean Fernel
Jean Fernel
Welcome!
In this course we will be exploring the structure and function
of several human organ systems from the circulatory to the
reproductive. Students will gain an understanding of the roles
of each system, how systems are interconnected, and the
relationship between form and function within a body system.
Concepts will be investigated through labs, collaborative group
work, and classroom discussions.

Learning Targets:
A. Collect, analyze, and communicate data using appropriate methods

including graphing, the metric system, and/or various levels of accuracy.

Course Textbook:

B. Engage in scientific communication using terminology accurately.

Essentials of Anatomy &

Physiology, Sixth edition Seeley,
Stephens, & Tate

C. Analyze the interrelationship between structure and function.

D. Explain how feedback mechanisms are utilized within the human
body systems.
E. Describe the organization and interactions of the human body
systems.
F. Explore the connections of science in todays society.

Grading:

70% - summative (includes unit tests, mid terms,

finals, lab reports, and projects)

Cell phone policy -Using cell phones in class is not

allowed. Cell phones are to be placed on the desk in
front of the student FACE DOWN. If you are caught
using your cell phone, it will be placed in cell phone
jail and can be freed at the end of class. Second
violation, the phone will remain in jail for the
remainder of the school day and can be picked up at
the end of school. Third violation, the cell phone will
be put in the office and a behavior referral will be
submitted.

30% - formative (includes quizzes, daily tasks,

discussions, exit slips)
I will be giving weekly quizzes on Fridays. You will
have up to three retakes on a quiz. It is up to you to
request a retake on a quiz. Most will be on Juno, so
it is your responsibility to be prepared on quiz day.
If you dont have what you need to take the quiz,
the grade is entered as missing and you only have
only two more chances to take the quiz.

iPad policy this is a class where you will be needing

to access your iPad for a variety of tasks such as
researching information, using JUNO, and referring
to online simulations or videos. If you do not have an
iPad, you will be responsible for obtaining a loaner
iPad from the library before class.

All work needs to be completed in a timely manner.

If you do not pass in your work on the day it is due,
you will be tagged until the missing or unfinished
assignment(s) is/are complete. Credit will be
deducted if work is handed in late, unless you
encounter situations beyond your control (i.e.:
illness, family emergency, and snow days). Skipping
more than one tag and continuing to not pass in
work on time results in behavioral referral (i.e. call
or email home).

Attendance students are expected to be on time to

class. If a student is late to class without a written
pass, the first offense will be a verbal warning and
second offense will be a teacher detention. Leaving in
the middle of class will require signing out and a pass
to where you are going. It is our job to ensure you are
safe and so we need to know where you are in case of
an emergency!

If you are missing any summative assignments

and/or a large percentage of formatives at the end of
the semester, you will be referred to Winter or
Spring Vacation Standards Recovery. Work for the
semester will no longer be accepted after the last day
of Standards Recovery and final earned grade will
be submitted to guidance.

We must all work together to create a respectful and

safe learning environment. Any kind of disrespectful
behavior toward a peer or teacher is not tolerated and
will result in behavioral referral and possible removal
from class.

Plagiarism/cheating If a student copies work from

another source, including another student, and takes
credit for it will result in a 0 and disciplinary
action will be taken.
Please take time to check Infinite Campus on a
regular basis.
I am excited to be teaching this course and working with you! The human body is fascinating and its fun to learn
about the way our bodies work!
You might be taking this class because you are interested in a field that requires background in this content, such as
nursing, OT, PT, message therapy, sports medicine, nutrition, psychology, outdoor guiding, or emergency
response. I have family that work in the medical field including my mother, a Registered Nurse, and my younger
brother, an ER technician.
Overall, I hope you enjoy the class and learning about the AMAZING things the happen within the human body!
