Good health begins with a healthy mouth:
Toothbrushes and toothpaste for refugees Henry Schein donates prophylaxis material worth 50.000 EUR to dental initiatives throughout Germany Langen, 25. August 2016 Henry Schein supports the efforts of Germany dentistrys in promoting oral health for refugees. With the project Good health begins with a healthy mouth, the company has donated over 100,000 prophylaxis materials worth more than 50,000 Euros to dental initiatives throughout Germany. The initiative was generously supported by the donations partners CP GABA GmbH and Sunstar Germany. Recipients of the donations are primarily regional dental working communities. But also organizations such as Hilfswerk Zahnmedizin Bayern or Grnhelme e.V., as well as individual dentists that cooperate with larger care services, such as Malteser, have received comprehensive donation materials. The project has been realized with the cooperation of the Federal Dental Association (BZK), who have supported Henry Schein with the demand coordination and also made contact with the individual initiatives. The Federal Dental Association is pleased to support with the coordination of the donation initiative, says Dr. Peter Engel, President of BZK. Various dentists provide medical care for refugees. Therefore, we are aware of the issues. Its an area where we need to take action and we are very grateful for the support for the benefit of our patients. Dental care in the home countries of the refugees and asylum seekers is not comparable to the German situation. Prophylactic measures and oral health care are less established. Furthermore, a challenging escape and the difficult medical situation in the home countries have already led to deficiencies. Dentists throughout Germany show their commitment and make an important contribution by providing dental care, prevention and education. By doing this, they often depend on monetary and in-kind donations. Dr. Gerd Hase, dentist from Stuttgart, is one of the voluntary dentists, who visits refugee camps equipped with toothbrushes and toothpaste to provide important educational work. As part of primary care, he treats refugees in this practice on a daily basis. As a dentist its only natural to bring in my dental expertise. With the prophylaxis initiative, we can create mutual trust and start building bridges, says Dr. Hase. In addition, Team Schein Members of Henry Schein showed their special commitment by preparing the pallets for shipment in the distribution center in Heppenheim. Daily, we prepare thousands of deliveries for shipment. I am especially pleased that with the dedication of our colleagues we were able to support such an important project to improve oral health, Axel Pfitzenreiter, Vice President Global Supply Chain Europe at Henry Schein stresses.
