Developing Self-Managed Teams
Speaker: Andrea Pearce-Meirick; Clinic Operations Manager;
Genesis Health System, Davenport Iowa
Employees who are part of a self-directed work team manage themselves. They are
responsible for planning, controlling and improving their operations as well as taking
corrective action to resolve day to day problems. In a self-directed team, the team not
only DOES the work, it also handles the management of that work and functions that
were previously handled by supervisors/managers. Allowing managers to spend
time coaching, facilitating and developing their employees versus spending time running
the day to day operations.

AIDET and Its Impact on Greater Customer Service
Speaker: Jodi Burton and Team Representative; Patient Access

AIDET is an evidence based communication tool that has been shown to reduce patient
anxieties and enhance the ability of the patient to participate in their care. Find out how
the Patient Access Team at Allen Hospital has used this tool to increase patient
satisfaction and gain proven results.

MCOs and ACOs
Speaker: Erica Carrick; Patient Services Director; Primary Health Inc.
Of The Greater Des Moines Area Iowa
It is a challenging and exciting time to be moving from fee-for-service to a value-based
reimbursement model. Most healthcare organizations are aligning themselves with
population health metrics in order to improve quality and decrease costs.
This workshop will consist of discussion on current barriers, best practices and future
barriers.
Primary Healthcare is a non for profit community health center dedicated to serving those
that experience barriers to receiving care. Erica has experience as a former leader in the
State of Iowa Department of Public Health and understands the barriers and advantages
to Managed Care Organizations and Accountable Care Organizations. This workshop
will consist of discussion surrounding these topics.

Creating a robust Patient Financial Communications program for your patients, families
and their representatives is important to organizational 501r Federal Regulation. Linaka
will describe best practice processes used to maintain compliance and provide the best
overall services to the patient populations you serve.

POS (Point of Service) Collection Best Practices
Speaker: Jayne Hildebrand; Director of Regional Revenue Cycle;
UnityPoint Health; Allen, Finley and Trinity Quad-Cities Hospitals.
As patients' out-of-pocket responsibilities continue to increase, point-of-service (POS)
collections are becoming an important improvement initiative in many healthcare
organizations. Jayne has completed extensive work in the area of Point of Service
collections with realized results meeting best practice goals of 2 to 3 percent in total net
revenue. Jayne will describe best practices to use in increasing Point of Service
Collections at your locations.

Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork!
Speaker: Sally Shaver Dubois; M.A., M.ED
Sally has been an athletic coach, training and working with athletes in a variety of sports.
She has taken several graduate courses in sport psychology and utilized these
techniques when coaching to motivate and inspire her athletes. She has now transformed
this skill-set into working with adults to improve communication and team building in the
workplace. "Teamwork Makes the Dream Work" is an action-packed program to teach
and motivate your audience through hands-on activities, personality profiles and use of
humor in the workplace.

You can be one of two people to win a prize for turning in a contest entry for the
Newsletter contest. The contest form is in your conference packet. Please fill this out
with what is happening at your hospital and/or department including other information
requested and a survey of what you want for IAHAA. Please give your completed form to
one of the IAHAA board members on Thursday.
Two entry forms will be drawn on Friday for prizes.

newsletter.

Help IAHAA continue to GROW! We encourage you to become more involved in


IAHAA by becoming a member of the IAHAA Executive Board and helping us plan and
provide our educational conferences. Please indicate your interest by completing this

CONFERENCE NAHAM CEUS: This conference provides 8.0 CEUs.
Our 2016 Conference has met the NAHAM requirements to provide Continuing Education
Credits, which will be important to all current CHAM and CHAA members for continuing
certification requirements. Also, if you are planning to take these certification tests in the
future the CEUs for this conference will count toward the points you need to take the
exam. Please SAVE the CEU certificate that you will receive in your conference packet at

UnityPoint Health-Methodist West Hospital

25 years experience in the clinical and hospital registration service areas to include Rural Health Clinics,
Federally Qualified health Centers, and Critical Access Hospitals. Currently CHAM certified manager for
UnityPoint Health Des Moines, the largest provider of healthcare services in the Des Moines metro area.
Manager at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines supervising all out-patient areas to include
main registration, emergency department, surgery and admitting. As a Patient Access manager, I also
serve as a liaison for the Satellite Areas (Hospital Out-Patient Departments or HODs) that need
assistance with registration or access issues and works directly with Central Scheduling manager to
resolve any provider credentialing issues for referring/ordering physicians.
I am currently a member of NAHAM and active in the local IAHAA (Iowa Association of Healthcare
Access and Admitting) serving as treasurer and previous site coordinator for the 2014 regional
conference (central region states) held at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
In 2015, I was elected by the central states (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, South
Dakota, and Nebraska), to serve as the regional Delegate for NAHAM. As the Central Regional Delegate,
I have attempted to provide information to members and non-members of the importance of the
National Association and the benefits of being a member. Also, as Central Regional Delegate it is my
goal to promote education through our state affiliated chapters and provide information to help those
become CHAA or CHAM certified.
