Behavioural Science I Project

Weightage: 20%
Format: Presentation by Groups
List of Groups: Section wise group list uploaded on Courseweb
Project Details:
Group project is a compulsory component in this course. All of you would soon face a
situation where you will have to work with other people who could be very different from
you. It is important that you learn to work on your skills in order to understand how to
work in teams. Ideation, persuasion, execution in a team is a different ball game
altogether. Your Group Project is an ode to this idea.
As you know by now, you need to select a movie, a novel or a story for this project in
BS1 course. The movie/novel is like an extended case study with some more details of
characters, situations, intentions, decisions, and outcomes.Your task is to remain with the
question why do people behave the way they do?
Therefore, your group is expected to analyze various behavioral aspects covered in the
course such as personality, leadership, conflict, attitudes, perception, motivation,
communication, group dynamics, etc. in the context of the various characters in the
movie/novel/story. As a group you can choose the aspects of organization behavior your
analysis will focus on.
The following questions may help you stay relevant and make better analysis:
1. Who is(are) the main protagonist(s) in this movie/novel?
2. What are the problems that the protagonist(s) face?
3. What concepts/theories that you read in the course could be applied to understand
why these problems are occurring?
4. What are your recommendations? What do you think the protagonist(s) has(ve)
missed out?
5. Is there something about the subject and its application that excited you? Did you
spot something that is not explained anywhere? What new questions did this
exercise raise?

Remember that these questions are guidelines for effective analysis. You are not expected
to make a presentation with answer to above questions. As you would have guessed the
idea behind this project is to appreciate, think, and critically examine the phenomena in
order to be better (more thoughtful, well rounded) decision makers.
You will then present your analysis in a group presentation. 15 minutes (12 min for
presentation and 3 min for Q &A) is allotted to each group. The presentations will be
scheduled outside regular class hours at a mutually convenient time. Forms of
presentation can vary from a slide presentation to a short skit. Group involvement in
presentation is important.
Your choice of movie/novel has to be unique across six sections. For this you need to
enter up to three preferences in the google spreadsheet. The link has already been shared
on courseweb.
You also need to send the rationale for making these three choices to all four course
instructors via email to the four instructors and the Sections TTA. You need to
BOTH, send the rationale via email, and update preferences on the spreadsheet. If
you miss one of the conditions, your choices will be treated as null and void.
The allocation will be FCFS. Instructors will take a call on overlaps. They shall also
announce their decisions on the web spreadsheet itself. It will not be possible to send
individual emails about confirmation. Instructors reserve the final rights on your choice
of the project.
Thank you for your understanding.
Deadline for sending in your preferences is 10AM on 7th July (Thursday), 2016. We
encourage you to mark your preferences early.
In case of a difficulty you can write to the course coordinator or talk to your course
instructor.
