A Guide for Academic and Social Success in Room 21

Academic
1. Keep all class handouts and assignments.
2. Bring two working pens and/or two sharpened pencils capable of making dark marks to class.
3. Bring your textbook to class every school day.
4. Do all handwritten work neatly in blue or black ink or with a #2 or HB grade pencil so that the class can read it
from the Smartboard. Unreadable means ungradable.
5. Keep your notebook paper in its binder, folder, book or backpack.
6. I will supply the paper you need. Except for unlined 8.5 x 11 copier paper, use only paper I have provided.
You can find a copy of printable lined paper on my website which you can access from Whitefords home page.
7. Complete your out-of-class assignments before you enter the classroom. Except for essays, hand in out-of-class
assignments following the seat-row procedure.
8. Write Standard English complete sentences. Speak in Standard English.
9. I grade your work using either Gunn/ITLB or Kentucky Scoring. You can usually find your current grades
on Home Access Center on Mondays.
10. Label your work with the quarter and assignment number. Keep your papers in numerical order (e.g. 1.01, 1.02, 1.03).
11. You have completed an assignment when I put a green-ink numerical grade on it.
12. You have the responsibility of making up any assignments you missed because of an excused absence.
However, if you have an announced assignment due during a planned, extended absence,
complete the assignment before you leave for the extended absence.
13. Draw a single line through correctable material dogg. Then correct it dog. Do not erase or cover up the mistake.
14. Receiving a zero on an assignment will lower your grade; receiving a series of zeros will lower your grade significantly.
15. I do not accept late work; however, I will, if you wish, evaluate your late work.
16. I use HACs Date Due, but the date listed usually refers to the first time I enter grades.
17. If you miss any assignment during a quarter, you will not receive any extra-credit points even if you have earned them.

1. Sit in your assigned seat before the tardy tone sounds. (Before means

prior to the tardy tone, ahead of the tardy tone or earlier

than the tardy tone. It does not mean while the tardy tone sounds, as the tardy tone sounds, or before the tardy tone stops.
If you need practice to understand this rule, I will give you an opportunity to do so. )

Eat your food, drink your beverages, adjust make-up, apply lotion and/or fix hair before you enter Room 21.

Keep the area on and around your desk clean. At the end of class, after checking for debris, I will excuse you.
Do not produce any scatological, salacious or vituperative material.
If a person sneezes, do not say Bless you! or any variations of that saying. Thinking the saying will work just as well.
Do not throw, toss, fling, lob, float, sail, whiz, floppel, bogolang, spatssun or propel any object in any manner.
Hand the object to the person. (If you want to propel an object, I will give you an opportunity to do so.)
11. You may chew gum as long as you dont sound, look or act like a cow. Know the Brandy Sloan Rule.
12. You will receive a tardy mark for each destination pass. You will receive a detention on your third tardy and a
detention for each subsequent tardy during the quarter. You will usually serve your detentions at 7:15 am in Room 21.
Failure to serve a detention will result in additional penalties.
13. The use of electronic devices during the school day is a distraction to the learning environment and prohibited.
Electronic devices include, but are not limited to cell phones, cameras, iPods, mp3 players, etc.
If brought to school, such devices should be stored in lockers or cars, and not seen on school
grounds during the school day. -- WHS Student Handbook
If you use a phone in class, I will take it and eventually send it to the office. If I suspect you have a phone, I will ask for it,
and you will give it to me without any argument. If you want to discuss the matter, we will talk about it at another time.
I may ask for your phone during subsequent classes.
14. If you want to talk with me, but you see me talking to another student or teacher, stand at least three meters away.
I will usually talk with you when the other person and I have finished our conversation.
15. If we have a fire or a fire drill, exit through the egress door to the grass north of the parking lot and queue up
alphabetically based on your last name. Remain in the queue.
16. If we have a tornado or a tornado drill, exit through the classroom door, seat yourself with your back against the wall
opposite Room 21. Do not make any noise until you leave your seated position.
17. Cooperate with your substitute teacher.
I have read A Guide for Academic and Social Success in Room 21.
The teacher gave me the opportunity to ask questions. I understand the guide.
