Air Pollution

Air pollution is contaminated air in the atmosphere, and it contains gases, dust, and
fumes. The amounts that are in the atmosphere are harmful form the health of the whole
environment including animals and humans. Pollution can arise primary pollutants and the
resulting compounds are called secondary pollutants. The main causes of air pollution are
caused by human activities. On of the most important one are the emissions form the
industries and manufacturing activities. Lots of smoke and fumes come out of this factory
tubes to the air contaminating it with chemicals like carbon monoxide. Burning fossil fuels
is a major cause of pollution and it is very difficult to manage since it gives transportation
to humans in many varied ways like planes, cars, and buses. The fumes from the car
exhaust contain dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen,
hydrocarbons and particulates. Carbon monoxide comes from the combustion of fuel from
vehicles engines. It affects the human body by reducing the amount of Oxygen producing
heart disease and other dangerous things. Ground-level Ozone is a secondary pollutant, it is
formed by a reaction of VOCs and NOx when it is exposed to sunlight. It causes respiratory
symptoms. Lead comes from metal industries, waste burners, and battery manufacturing. It
damages the nervous system, impacts on learning and memory for children. Also
cardiovascular and renal effects on adults. Nitrogen dioxide comes from fuel combustion
and wood burning. It worsens lung diseases leading to respiratory symptoms. Particulate
matter is formed with chemical reactions, farming, and industrial processes. It worsens lung
and heart diseases. The last of them is Sulfur dioxide that comes from fuel combustion and
sometimes from natural occurrences like volcanoes. Creates breathing difficulties and
asthma. The other cause of air pollution is house hold and farming chemicals. When people
fumigate their homes, use insect pest killers, clean products of painting supplies, they are
emitting harmful chemicals into the air causing pollution. There are six main common air
pollutants. Nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, ground-level ozone, lead, sulfur dioxide,
and particulate matter. The pollutants that get combined with water droplets may cause acid
rain that can kill trees and harm animals, fish, and other wild life. What can be the solutions
for air pollution?. Encourage people to use more public transportation instead of going in
individual cars that create more pollution for the air. If there is some one that you know and
lives near you to save energy and money then ride with them. When you are not using the
light or other energy consumer materials then turn them off. When energy is produced large
amounts of fossil fuels are burned. It can save the environment from degradation. Reduce,
reuse, and recycle. Reuse the items that you have instead of throwing them away. It can
save you money. Or give them to people that cant afford things. There are other energy
resources that can be environmental friendly. Solar, wind, and geothermal power. If every
one started to use this kinds of energy most of the air pollution will decrease. Horrible
disasters and things have happened because of air pollution. Some Australian scientists
have discovered that five Solomon islands have disappeared underneath the pacific ocean.
They think that it is a cause of climate change. Recent studies conclude that if all of the
worlds fossil fuels were burned Antarctica will completely melt. In December 4, 1952
heavy smog hovers over London, England. The smog lasted for four days and it killed
4,000 people. In 1948 in Donora, Pennsylvania there were dispersal emissions from zinc
smelting and blast furnaces. Some people died and others seek medical attention.
