How to Apply Soldering In a Thermoelectric

Peltier Cooler?
Thermoelectric Peltier cooler

is a solid state heat pump used in various

applications for heat stabilization, temperature cycling or cooling below ambient.
The workings of Thermoelectric Peltier coolers are based on the peltier effect which
was discovered in the year 1834 by applying DC current across two dissimilar
materials causing a temperature difference.

The usage of this particular device is there in varied industry. This is one such
machine which gives the most efficient heating and cooling result to a machine.
Here, it will be a discussion on two things, first the various industries that uses
a Peltier Cooler and then on Soldering, one of the important installation feature
of Peltier Device.

The various industries that use a Peltier cooler are:

Telecom Industry- The peltier cooler provides cooling for transformation lasers,
photo-diodes as well as to stabilize the temperature of optical channel. The
telecom industries mostly use this particular device.
Biomedical Industry- This particular device helps in DNA analyzers and in
temperature stabilization equipment in the biomedical industry.
Automotive industry- This is widely used in the auto motive industry for cabinrefrigerators, climate seats as well as air conditioning and electric power
generation.
Photonics Industry- This particular device is used for laser system cooling,
temperature stabilization and various other types of sensors.

What is actually Soldering?

The various thermoelectric modules that have got metalized external faces
are sometimes soldered into an assembly by taking proper care of its
heating. The process of soldering is performed at one side of the module in
order to prevent mechanical damage to the other side. While doing the
soldering, a good temperature control must be maintained so that there is
no chance of damage to the thermoelectric module.
The process of Soldering is done in various thermal cycling applications. The
various steps involved in it are
At first it is very much necessary to grind flat the mounting surface on which
the module will be placed for soldering. The surface where the heat will sink
should definitely be made of copper or copper plated material for the
proper absorption of heat.

The heat skink surface should be cleaned properly by removing the heat
oxidation. The surface should not contain any waste element and should
absolutely be neat and clean.
Now its time to apply the soldering process. The selected solder should
have a melting point that is always less than or equal to the maximum
operating temperature of the TE device being installed. During the process
of tinning the heat sink with solder, the temperature of the heat sink should
be high enough, so that the solder will melt but it should not be excess than
the value specified by a thermoelectric device.

Then the soldering flux should be applied on the hot side of the TE module
and the module should be placed on the tinned area of the heat sink.
After a certain point of time the module surface will get tinned automatically.
Then it is necessary to remove the heat sink from the surface and allow the
object to get cooled down.
A thermoelectric Peltier Cooler as said earlier is used in variable machineries
and has always given a proper and desired result. In the process of heating or
cooling devices a thermoelectric cooler is the best option.
