Science

PE

In Science we will be learning about Electricity and light.


Children will be investigating how the brightness of a
bulb changes depending on different variables. They will
be setting up parallel and series circuits and recognising
where they are found in the home. Linked with the
Crime and Punishment, children will design and make an
electric chair.
What you can do
Point out series and parallel circuits in the home.

This term children will be improving their skills in invasion


games. They will play a range of team games focusing on
outwitting their opponent. Swimming will also take place
every Thursday afternoon. (May be late back)
What you can do
Please ensure that correct PE kit is always in school.
Throwing and catching a tennis ball different heights
and distances.

Music
The aim of this unit is to compose a piece of music
entitled Air Fiesta and to develop singing skills
towards a performance of Those Magnificent Men in
their Flying Machines.
What you can do Listen to
Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines.

ICT
This term children will learning about mobile Apps.
They will be designing and advertising their App.
What you can do
Look at different Apps.
Discuss what do they like / dislike about them.

ART
In Art, we will be drawing landscapes
with perspectives. They will be using
vanishing points and parallel lines to aid
accuracy.
What you can do
Research pictures on the internet to
discuss. Trying drawing cubes.

Year 6
Autumn 1
Crime and
punishment
History

This term we will be


looking at crime and
punishment through the
ages: Roman, Tudor,
Victorian and today. There
will be a visit to the Houses
of Parliament.

RE
This term children will be learning about
the journey and sacrifice of Moses and
the relevance of the Ten Commandments
today.
What you can do
Share your views of the Ten
Commandments.

Maths
Children will be revising place value and
writing numbers up to ten million. They will
be rounding, adding, subtracting and
multiplying decimals mentally and using
formal written methods. Also they will be
revising ordering decimals up to 3dp. Know
the numbers that are prime or factors.
What you can do
Call out various multiplication facts
whilst walking or driving to and from
school. Support children with homework.

English
In Literacy, we will begin with
looking at the legend of Robin Hood and
Beowulf. We will be focusing on synonyms,
varied word order for effect and use of
short sentences for pace and suspense.
What you can do
Encourage your child to use good describing
words when you are out and about as this
will help develop their vocabulary!
When hearing your child read, discuss effect
of short sentences on the reader.
