[Warning: SPOILERS for the Batman V

Superman Ultimate Cut ahead.]

Ever since it was announced that Batman

V Superman: Dawn of Justice would get
an R-rated Ultimate Cut for home video
release, the main question has been what
additional material it would contain in
the half-hour of extra footage that will
make up its extended three-hour runtime.
DirectorZack Snyder has offered a few
details, commenting that it is a deeper
dive into that world, and there are
storylines in there that get fleshed out by
the longer version.
What exactly those storylines are has not
yet been made clear, although Snyder did
say that the Ultimate Cut will include more
characters, such as the oft-

discussed Jena Malone scenes that did

not make the theatrical cut. Now, however,
additional details have leaked about the
cut that arent just hints of what audiences
can expect, but full-on spoilers.
The spoilers come courtesy of CBM, who
got a look at the extended cut when it
leaked online via a couple of VOD
platforms. For those who want to
approach the Ultimate Cut spoiler-free,
nows the time to stop reading. For
everyone else, there are quite a few
details to take in, including how Lex Luthor
framed Superman, what role Jena Malone
is playing, additional background on the
Senate hearing, where Lex Luthor is
heading after the conclusion of Batman V
Superman, and some additional heroics
from Superman.

First off, there is the question of how Lex

Luthor framed Superman for the killing of
terrorists, which wasnt particularly well
explained in the theatrical cut. CBM has
an explanation for that:
For starters, Anatoli Knyazev/KGBeast
actually burns the bodies to make it look
like the hero wiped the men out with his
heat vision. Secondly, the villager who

testified about his actions to that senate

committee is revealed to be an actress
hired by Luthor, and shes later
murdered by his men after having a
change of heart and telling Senator Finch
the truth. This version of the movie
makes it clear that Lex has orchestrated
everything were seeing, whereas the
theatrical cut of Batman v
Superman arguably played out more like
a series of coincidences in the villains
favour.
The overuse of coincidence to drive a plot
can often work against a movie, so the
additional explanation from the Ultimate
Cut helps a bit in that regard. In addition,
there is more explanation of Luthors plot
regarding the Senate hearing. While the
theatrical cut makes it look like the
wheelchair-bound Wallace Keefe was a
willing suicide bomber, the Ultimate Cut
makes it clear that Luthor framed him as

well and planted the bomb without his

knowledge. As to the question of why
Superman was unable to see the bomb, it
is made clear that it was because it was
encased in lead. Lois is able to figure out
that Keefe didnt intend the suicide
bombing when she visits his apartment
and sees some groceries he intended to
use, which is obviously not the behavior of
someone who intended to die. Luther
completed his frame-up, though, by
planting bomb-making materials and antiSuperman graffiti.
For those hoping that the rumors of Jimmy
Olsens demise werent true, unfortunately
it appears they are. According to CBM, the
Ultimate Cut makes it clear as day that the
photographer outed as a CIA agent really
was Jimmy Olsen. The movie might make

up for that if Jena Malones character

ended up being someone interesting to fill
the Jimmy Olsen void, but that is also not
the case. Instead, Malone plays the
relatively mundane role of a S.T.A.R.
Laboratories employee who provides
information to Lois Lane about the bullet
she found in the desert.

For those who despise Lex Luthor even

more after the additional information
revealed in the Ultimate Cut, there is one
bit of potential good news: where he is
heading afterward. According to CBM, the
extended version of the end-of-movie
confrontation with Luthor has him
revealing that he knows Batmans secret
identity, and also taunting him that he is
too insane to stand trial. His gloating is
short-lived, though, as Batman reveals
that he has made arrangements for Luthor
to be hauled away to Arkham Asylum,
which is not exactly a luxury vacation.
Finally, one thematic issue that is
addressed is the common complaint that
the Superman of Batman V Superman just
does not seem very heroic. Some
additional footage from the Ultimate Cut

has Superman flying victims out of the

wreckage of the Senate explosion rather
than just looking morose about it. There is
also more time devoted to his alter ego
Clark Kents investigation of Batman,
showing that Superman/Kent was growing
not just as a superhero, but as a journalist
as well. Additional footage from his funeral
brings back Pete Ross and Lana Lang
from the Daily Planet, and mention is even
made that Bruce Wayne paid for the
service. In other words, Superman did not
go out without making some friends along
the way.
Some of these additions help explain why
the movies cinematographer Larry Fong
praised the Ultimate Cut after a rewatch,
despite his original comments that
it wouldnt change anyones mindabout the

movie. Some plot points are clarified that

needed clarification, and some additional
light is shed on Supermans character.
Add in some more action and some more
screen time for Batman and Alfred, and
fans may very well may be pleased by the
final result even if they were left cold by
the theatrical cut. No doubt Warner Bros.
hopes that is the case as they attempt to
recover from the movies lower-thanexpected profits so far.
Game of Thrones Season 6: HBO
Reveals Final Episode Details

[WARNING This article contains
SPOILERS for Game of
Thrones season 6.]

The sixth season of Game of Thrones,

the first of the series consisting of events
mostly outside the purview of George R.R.
Martins A Song of Ice and Fire books,
has been an exciting one, both in terms of
action and forward plot momentum. Fans
have seen the resurrection of Jon Snow,
and him joining his sister Sansa Stark in
planning to take back Winterfell.
Plus, Game of Thrones depicted the
tragic death of fan-favorite character
Hodor that combined with the revelation of
how he got his name. Viewers have
seen Daenerys Targaryen burn the Khals
of Vaes Dothrak alive, and begin the
stirrings of her eventual invasion of
Westeros.
Then there was the conversion of King
Tommen, Arya Starks adventures in

Braavos, and Ian McShanes great oneepisode appearance. Plus, the Kingsmoot
in the Iron Islands, and whatever
happened in Dorne back in the season
premiere. There are now two episodes
left, leaving more than the usual two
hours to wrap up those plotlines (and
quite a few more) for the year. Now,
thanks to some clues from an unlikely
place, we have some idea of what to
expect.
As reported by Thrones fan
site WinterIsComing.net, when the Emmy
nominating ballots were released this
week, HBO submitted the ninth and tenth
episodes, Battle of the Bastards and The
Winds of Winter, for consideration in
several categories and those
submissions include plot synopses. For

Battle of the Bastards, the synopsis is:

Terms of surrender are rejected and
accepted. For The Winds of Winter it
stated: Season Finale. Cersei faces her
trial.

Neither of those is especially surprising.

Should the series follow the template of
season two with Blackwater and season

fours The Watchers on the Wall, the

ninth episode may consist entirely of a
battle in this case, the clash at Winterfell
between the armies led by Jon Snow and
Ramsey Bolton while putting all other
season storylines on pause until the
finale. The title of the episode Battle of
the Bastards indicates that that is the
route the show is taking, as does the
episode trailer, which consists only of
scenes from the battlefield. Well have to
wait until the episode to know exactly
whose surrender is rejected, or accepted,
though.
Is it frustrating that we wont get to visit
Kings Landing, Mereen, or whatevers
going on with Bran Stark, until the season
finale? In a way, yes. But the battle at
Winterfell has been the culmination of so

many years and so many different strands

of plot, that its absolutely worth its own
episode. Plus, if it ends with the death of
Ramsey Bolton? Even better.
Game of Thrones Fan Breaks Down
Inconsistency In Aryas Storyline

[WARNING This article contains
SPOILERS for Game of Thrones
season 6.]

Only two episodes remain in Game of

Thrones season 6 and they promise to
be absolutely bonkers. This Sundays
episode looks to be focusing almost
exclusively on the Battle of the Bastards,
for which it is named, and the following
weeks finale will feature Cerseis trial.
Though, given that its title is The Winds of
Winter, we have to expect The Night King
and his squad of everyone dead ever will
also put in an appearance during the
season 6 finale.
Additionally, we may get to see Arya
board a ship for Westeros, seeing as she
declared to Jaqen Hghar in last weeks
episode that she is going home. Of
course, she was only able to make such a
claim because she narrowly avoided a
real messy death, having been stabbed

repeatedly in the abdomen by The Waif

and miraculously surviving thanks to Lady
Cranes impeccable bed side manner and
medical know-how. Aryas recovery was
then put to the test as she vaulted and
rolled herself through the streets with The
Waif hot on her tail an astonishing feat
for someone suffering a single stab
wound, let alone many.
But Aryas survival and subsequent
recovery arent simply amazing or
incredible or even very lucky. According
to one Game of Thrones fan, its
downright inconsistent with what the
series has presented in the
past. Zahn1138 explains (via Reddit) that
practically every other instance of a
character suffering from a major wound
like being stabbed or losing a limb has

resulted in at least days,

sometimes weeks or months, of recovery,
and in the extreme cases even death.
Except for Arya, who seemed to take a
nap for a few hours and awaken sore, but
not nearly as incapacitated as someone
whod have lost a lot of blood and endured
severe lacerations of abdominal tissue.

To make their point, Zahn1138 examines

11 different wounds suffered by several
characters, analyzing the wound itself, the
likely infections, the treatment, and the
end result. Its a staggering amount of
information, but it does seem to prove
the point: Arya should have died, and if

not from the injury itself, then definitely

from the onset of infection. That was some
disgusting water she fell into, after all,
allowing who knows what to enter her
gaping stomach wounds not to mention
the likelihood that the stabbing itself
ruptured something, like her stomach or
another organ, that would flood the area
with bacteria.
The whole analysis is well worth the read
(especially if you have a love for data
tables), but Zahn1138 sums it up thusly:
Infection is a serious threat in Game of
Thrones. For the overall story to be
consistent and understandable, Aryas
stab wounds should have been fatal, if
not immediately (like Talisa Stark), then
soon thereafter from vulnerability (like
Khal Drogo) or from a massive
peritoneal infection (like King Robert).

With as many examples as Game of

Thrones has already included of
characters suffering from deadly infection
even when the wound itself isnt all that
serious the fact that Arya survived and
was capable of parkouring through the
streets of Braavos is preposterous. Yes,
even for a show with dragons, blood
magic, and zombies. Because while those
elements may be fantastical in nature,
they are as Zahn1138 argues, consistent
within the realm of Game of Thrones,
whereas Aryas miraculous recovery and
resiliency just isnt.
