INTRODUCTION OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Modern organizational setting is characterized by constant changes relating to
environmental factors and human resources. As regards environmental factors, we find changes
in the operating organizational structure, the networking procedures, customs or norms and the
economic, political and social patterns in which organizations exist. Moreover, there is constant
change in human resources. New individuals are being employed with their new ideas and
expectations while the existing workforce is constantly changing vis--vis ideas, attitudes and
values.
Although the change may provide solution to some problems, it may create several new
ones. There is an urgent need to understand these problems, anticipate them and to find solutions
to them. The responsibility to find out solutions to these problems lies with every manager who
has to be prepared to deal with different changes effectively through educational and
developmental programmers. Obviously, every manager is responsible for management of
human resources of course with the advice and help of personnel department. Management of
human resources is the essence of being a manager who has to get things done through others.
Specifically, his task relates to leading, mobilizing and directing the efforts of people without
which he can be a technician but not a manager. Thus, every manager has to develop and
maintain his competence in managing human resources which have assumed utmost significance
in modern organizations.

JOB SATISFACTION

INTRODUCTION:

Several years ago the only compensation that most employees received from their
jobs was a pay cheques. As time passed this changed, as employees began to demand
and receive more from their jobs. Todays employees are receiving a variety of
compensation,, including

health

care, retirement, and

numerous

other

benefits

and

programmed. However, one thing that employee of two generation ago and today have in
common in them is that, their jobs constitute a major part of their lives, and are one of
the greater sources of personal pleaser and pain. While jobs can be satisfying in some
regards, with positive feeling of accomplishments and purpose, they can also be source
of negative feelings.

DEFINITION:

The term job satisfaction refers to an individuals general attitude towards his or
her job. A person with a high level of jobs satisfaction holds positive attitude about the
jobs, while a person who is dissatisfaction with his or her jobs holds negative attitude
towards the jobs.
Job satisfaction consists of the feelings and attitude of a person with respect to
his or her job. All aspects of particular jobs, good or bad, positive or negative, is likely
to contribute to the development of feelings of satisfaction (or dissatisfaction).

BLDEAs BBA College Jamkhandi

Page 32

VRISHAB ENTERPRISES
FACTORS OF THE JOB SATISFACTION:
There are different factors on which job satisfaction depends. Important are as discussed
here.

Personal factors

Factors inherent in job

Factors controlled by the management

BLDEAs BBA College Jamkhandi

Page 33

VRISHAB ENTERPRISES
1] Personal factors:
They include employees sex, education, age, marital status and their personal
characteristics, family background, socio-economic background and the like.

2] factors inherent in job:

Instead of being guided by their co-worker and supervision, the skilled employees
would rather like to be guided by their own inclination to choose jobs in consideration
of what they have to do. These factors included: the worker itself, condition, influence
of internal and external environment on the job which are uncontrolled by the
management etc.

3] factors controlled by the management:

They include the nature of supervision, job security, kind of work group, wage
rate, promotional opportunities transfer policy, duration of work and sense of
responsibilities. All these factors greatly influence the employees. Their presence in the
organization motivation the employees and provides a sense of job satisfaction.

THE IMPORTANCE OF JOB SATISFACTION.

When allowed to operate freely, job satisfaction can contribute substantially

to

organizational effectiveness. It can contribute to productive output in the from of high

quantity and quality of product or services, as well as to organizational maintenance
objective as represented by low absenteeism and turnover. Yet in great many instances
aspect of the individual, the organization, or the environment constrain the satisfaction
productivity relationship to the point where its practical importance is minimal. A very
dissatisfied employee may work hard, produce, be present everyday, and stay with the co;
for many tears if there is no place else to go, the person desperately needs a jobs and
there is a real prospect of being fired should good performance not be maintained.

BLDEAs BBA College Jamkhandi

Page 34

VRISHAB ENTERPRISES
Ultimately, stress may catch up with such a person and signs of poor corporate
citizenship may appear, but such denials of natural satisfaction-output patterns cans
maintain themselves for long periods. Hence job satisfaction may will be more important
to the individual than to the employing organization. In American society, responsibility
for attaining job satisfaction usually assigned to the individual rather than to the
organization. Individuals can change jobs, thereby obtaining more satisfying work.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF JOB SATISFACTION

ADAVANTAGES
1) Quality of work improves and productivity increases because employees are in an
environment where they feel comfortable and experience job satisfaction.
2) Office space overhead and costs are reduced because companies do not have to maintain
an office to support all of their employees.
3) Employee absentee average and sick leave is lower because they can work from home
with monthly, weekly, or daily deadlines.
4) Employee turnover is decreased reducing recruiting and training costs.
5) Management staff does not have to worry about scheduling fluctuations they can focus on
work and specific projects.
6) Management is released from all concern from personal emergencies of employees.

DISADVANTAGES
1) Employers have little to no supervision of employees. This makes the employers feel
they have no control over the employees and their productivity.
BLDEAs BBA College Jamkhandi

Page 35

VRISHAB ENTERPRISES
2) With the employees working on a network attached to the company server, there is a
security concern because files, documents, and possibly private company information can
be accessed outside the office.
3) Start up and maintenance costs incurred by the company for supplies used in home
offices, maintenance of computers and network systems, and installation of intranets can
be quite costly.
4) Health and safety issues while working in the home office. There has been a lot of
controversy over the liability issues of telecommuting. What is the company actually
responsible for if an accident happens during specified work hours?
