Brain Research
Presentation
Dr. Hideyuki Taura a professor
of Applied Linguistics at
Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto
and former SIS teacher, will be
delivering a talk to faculty and
parents on how the bilingual
brain develops in comparison
with the monolingual brain,
how OIS students literacy
develops over 12 years (SIS
over 6 years) and when
parents needs to pay most
attention to their bilingual
children in terms of acquiring
life-long literacy resistance to
attrition. The talk will be in the
third floor conference room
Thursday October 6 at 8:45
AM. Everyone is invited to
attend and there will be a Q&A
session. Dr. Taura has done
much research with SOIS
students over the years,
including this autumn.

Kool Sounds @ Kita Senri


Everyone is invited to come to the Kita Senri Station on
Monday October 24 from 4:00 - 5:30 PM to watch the SOIS
musicians. The OIS grade 5 students, high school choir and high
school concert string ensemble will be performing as part of our
outreach to the community. The idea is to promote the school
and give our students the opportunity to show their musical
talents for the commuters of Minoh. Please come out and show
your support of the students and our music program. For more

OIS students in grades 3-8 have an unique opportunity to


participate in a Noh theatre production. Noh is an 800 year old
form of Japanese theatre. The prestigious Yamamoto theatre
company is looking for international and Japanese students in
grades 3-8 to do a modern version Noh play about Osaka as a city of
water (canals, rivers, Osaka Bay) and the importance of conserving
this precious resource. Choreographers from Tokyo will be holding
practices Monday October 3, October 17 and October 24 after
school here on campus. The final rehearsal will be Thursday
November 3 with the performance on Friday November 4 6:30
PM at the Grand Front Osaka. An organizational meeting for
students and parents will be held Friday September 30 at 3:45
