TheDarkConsulhascreatedSpawnPointsgatewaystoavileshadowdimensionthroughout
thedungeon,throughwhichhordesofmonsterswillcomeforthtoravageCrystalia.TheHeroes
mustjourneythroughthedungeonanddestroyallofthespawningpointsinordertosummon
anddefeatthedreadeddungeonBossandtheConsulmustdestroyalloftheHeroesbefore
theysucceed.

OverthecourseofagametheHeroesandConsultaketurnsactivatingmodels.Asmonsters
aredestroyedtheConsulwillspawnreinforcementsfromSpawnPoints.TheHeroeswill
attempttocleavethroughtheConsul'smonstersanddestroythosespawnpoints,becauseonce
theydosotheDungeonBoss,theirgoal,willspawn.

However,theHeroesdonothaveinfinitetimetodestroythespawnpoints.Eachmonsterthey
kill,andeachWoundtheysuffer,countsdowntothespawningofafearsomeminiboss,thento
theactualDungeonBossandwoebetidethebandofHeroesthatallowstheBosstospawn
thisway,astheremainingpointsgivegreatpowertotheboss.WhicheverwaytheBoss
spawns,anepicbattleforthefateofCrystaliahasbegun,andonlydestinyknowswhowillwin.

1. SELECT GAME SIZE


ClassicModeisdesignedfor25playerswithoneplayerastheConsulcontrollingthe
monstersandoneormoreplayersastheHeroes.Gamesaredividedinto3Heroor4Hero
games(wecallthem16BitandSuperatourtables!),withaTile,Chest,andSpawningPointfor
eachHero,asperthefollowingtable.Largergamesarepossible,butintheVariantRules
section.

AnEasyModeversion,designedtohelpbeginningplayersgetthebasicsofthegamewhile
ignoringcertainspecialrules,alsolurksintheVariantRules.

2. SELECT HEROES
TheHeroplayersselectwhichHeroestheywanttoplay.TheselectedHeroesarereferredtoas
apartyapartyconsistsof34Heroesandtheirgamecards.Playerscaneachcontrolasingle
HeroormultipleHeroes.EachplayercontrolseveryaspectoftheirownHero:decidingattacks,
movement,andwhomaydrinktheirpowerfulpotion.IfduplicateHeroesarechosen,we
recommenditisdoneintruearcadespiritandtheyarepainteddifferentcolors.

3. SELECT MONSTERS
TheConsulplayerusesmonsterstobash,burninate,anddestroytheHeroes.Themonsters
chosenarecalledthespawningpool.

TheConsulfirstselectsoneDungeonBoss.EachDungeonBosscomeswithagamecard,a
BossFightcard,sixuniqueTreasurecards,andtwelveuniqueExplorecards.

TheConsulthenselectsaMiniboss.EachMinibosscomeswithagamecard,andmanyalso
includeuniqueLootorTreasurecards.


Last,theConsulselectsSpawnPoints.EachSpawnPointsgamecardliststhetypeand
numberofmonstersthatareaddedtothespawningpool.TheConsulmaychooseoneSpawn
PointmodelforeveryHerointhegame.

SomeSpawnPointscomeinpairs.ThesearecalledpairedSpawnPoints,whichcountastwo
choices.ThemonstersaddedtothespawningpoollistedonthepairedSpawnPointscardis
forbothSpawnPointscombined.

FRIENDLY&ENEMY
Someabilitiesandeffectsrefertofriendlyorenemymodels.Whenplayinga
Hero,anymodelcontrolledbytheConsulisanenemy,whileanymodel
controlledbyafellowHeroisfriendly.WhenplayingtheConsul,anymodel
controlledbyaHeroisanenemy,andanymodelcontrolledbytheConsulis
friendly.

4. CREATE GAME DECKS


SuperDungeonExploreusesthreedifferentcarddecks:TheTreasureDeck(fullof
superpowerfulmagicitemswhichwhenequippedmakesaHeroverystrong),theLootDeck
(whichgiveslesspowerful,butmorecommonequipment,andalsoservesasacounterforhow
longtheHeroeshaveuntiltheBossspawns),andtheExploreDeck(whichgiveseachtile
randomoccurrences,fromhavingtrapstoawanderingsalesmanofferingnewLoot).Ifanentire
Deckisdrawnthroughduringthecourseofagame,shufflethediscardedcardstogetherintoa
newpile.

TREASUREDECK
TheTreasureDeckconsistsofthebasic24Treasurecards,6BossTreasure
cardsthatgowiththechosenBossmodel,6BooBootycards,and6Wonder
cards.Iftherearemorecardsavailabletochoosefromthanthe6cardlimit,then
theConsulchooseswhich6TreasurecardsgointothedeckfromtheBoss's
Treasures,andtheHeroeschoosewhich6Wondersgointothedeck.

LOOTDECK
TheLootDeckconsistsof32cards,dividedintotwoseparatepilesof16cards
thesefunctionastheLootimeter,countingdowntheappearanceofaMiniboss
orBoss(seePowerUpformoreinformation).RemovetheextraLootcardsfrom
thegameaftercreatingtheLootimeter.

EXPLOREDECK
TheExploreDeckisthesmallergreenbackedcards,andconsistsofthebasic
24Explorecards,witheachBossbringing12moreExplorecardsintothedeck.

5. BUILD DUNGEON
ThedungeonmapisbuiltusingonedungeontileforeachHerointheparty.TheConsulalways
choosesandplacesthefirstdungeontile,afterwhichHeroesandConsulalternateplacingtiles.
Whenplacingatile,atleastoneofitsdoorwaysmustalignwithanothertilesdoorway.

SQUARES
Everydungeontilehasagridofsquaresonit.Squaresareusedformovement,
range,and
determiningareaeffects.Amodelmaynevermoveintoorthroughalocationon
adungeontilethatdoesnothaveasquare.Likewise,noactionorabilitycan
affectalocationthatdoesnothaveasquare.

WALLS
Wallsarerepresentedbyablacklinebetweensquares.Modelscannotmoveor
drawlineofsightthroughwalls.

DOORWAYS
Doorwaysaretheareaswheretilesconnect.Modelscannotmovethrough
doorwaysthatare
notconnectedtoanotherdoorway.

TILEEFFECTS
Somesquareshaveuniqueeffects,calledTileEffects.SquareswithTileEffects
haveagreyhatchedborderandaniconthatrepresentstheeffectsofthesquare.
EachTileEffectisdetailedonacard.SeeTileEffects,SDECpage32.

OPENSQUARES
SquaresthatdonothaveaTileEffectarecalledopensquares.

6. POPULATE DUNGEON
TheConsulplacesoneSpawnPointandoneTreasureChestoneachdungeontile.Theremay
notbemorethanoneSpawnPointandoneTreasureChestonasingledungeontile.

Next,everySpawnPointonthedungeonmapspawns.TheConsulplacesevery8Bitand
16BitmonsterlistedoneachSpawnPointsgamecardwithintwosquaresoftheirSpawn
Point.MonstersmayonlybespawnedfromaSpawnPointwhichliststhemaspartofits
spawningpool,andmodelsbelongingtoapairedSpawnPointcanspawnfromeitherSpawn
Point.

7. HEROES ENTER DUNGEON


Heroesplacethestartmarkeronanysquarethatiswithinonesquareofadoorwaynot
connectedtoanotherdungeontile,andnotwithintwosquaresofaspawningpoint.Placeall

Heroesinasquareon,oradjacentto,thestartmarker.PlaceonepotiontokenoneachHeros
gamecard,andplaceoneExploreCardfromtheExploreDeckoneachTiletheHeroesarenot
currentlyin.

Now,choosetheorderinwhichHeroeswillbetakingthefirstactivationontheHeroturns.This
willbetheorderuntilthegameends.

Pickupdiceandplaythegame!Heroesalwaysmovefirst,andthenplayalternatesbetween
thetwosides.

PLAYINGTHEGAME
BeginningwiththeHeroes,theHeroesandConsulalternateturns,activatingmodelsbasedon
differingrestrictionsforeachside.Theonecommonrestriction,withtheexceptionoftheBoss,
isthatnomodelmaybeactivatedtwiceinasingleturn.Attheendofeveryturnisthe
PowerUpphasewhereboththeHeroesandtheConsulhaveachancetoincreasethe
deadlinessofthegame.TheHeroesandConsulcontinuealternatingturnsuntiloneside
achievesvictory.

HERO TURN
1)ActivatefirstHero,aspertheorderestablishedinstep7ofGameSetup(seeActivation,
SDEC,pages1519.)
2)ThatHeroplayerthenchoosesasecondHerotoactivate,whichcanbeanyotherHeroon
thetable.
3)ResolvePowerUp(Equip)forbothHeroesandConsul.
4)PlaythenmovestotheConsulturn.

OneveryHeroturn,twomodelsactivatethefirstisalwaysintheorderchosenduringHeroes
EnterTheDungeon.Oncethatmodelhasactivated,thenitmaychooseanyotherHerotogo
secondduringitsturnthishasnobearingwhatsoeverontheoverallHeroturnorder.IfaHero
isdeadwhenitwouldbetheirturn,theturninsteadmovestothenextHeroinline.Thereareno
restrictionsonwhichHeromaybechosentogosecondaHeromaybechosenmultipletimes
inarow.

EXAMPLE:PrincessEmerald,theQuestingKnight,andtheThundervale
HuntressareallenteringtheDungeon.TheHeroesdecideduringHeroesEnter
TheDungeonthattheorderwillbeHuntress,Emerald,Knight.Whenthe
Huntressfinishesheractivationonturnone,shechoosestheQuestingKnightto
goafterher.OnthenextHeroturn,PrincessEmeraldfinishesheractivationand

choosestheQuestingKnightagain.OnthethirdHeroturn,whentheQuesting
Knightfinisheshisactivation,hechoosestheThundervaleHuntresstogoafter
him.Then,itloopsbacktotheThundervaleHuntresssturntobefirstoncemore
unfortunately,shediedtoaluckyBillmanandsotheturngoestoPrincess
Emeraldinstead.

CONSUL TURN
Activatethefollowinginanyorder:
1)4Skullsworthofmonsters
2)AnyInsignificantmonsterswhichshareatilewithaHero
3)AsingleSuper!monster.
4)PlaythenmovestotheHeroturn.

Example:TheConsulhastwoGiri,Trent,andisusingtheOldGrowthHollowhecanchooseto
movehismonstersinanyorder.HechoosestomoveaGirifirstasanInsignificantmonster,
usingitsSpecialActiontoplaceaMooknexttotheHeroes.ThatMookmovesnext,usingup1
Skullofhis4total,anditsucceedsinanAttackroll,PoisoningtheHero.TheConsulmoves
TrentnextashisSuper!monster,AttackingthatPoisonedHeroandnearlykillingit.Hethen
moveshisotherGiriasInsignificant,thenaTurnipheadandaWispashis3Skulls,usingthem
alltoAttacktheweakenedHeroandfinallyslayingherwiththeWisp'sfinalWILLroll.

LOOTIMETER
TheLootimeteristhetickingclockofthegame,pushingtheHeroestobalancebetweenhaving
enoughequipmenttofighttheBossanddestroyingtheSpawnPointsfastenoughtodeprivethe
Bossoftheirpower.

EachtimetheHeroesdestroyanEliteorMinionmonster,theydrawacardfromtheLootimeter
deckandplaceitintheBackpack.Theymaynotdrawcardsformonstersdestroyedduringthe
Consulturn(byFireorBacklash),oranythingwiththeInsignificantrule.

EachtimetheConsulinflictsaWoundonaHeroorpet,heplacesthetopcardoftheLootimeter
intothediscardpile.

When16Lootcardshavebeenequippedorplacedinthediscardpile,theMiniBossspawnson
thenextavailableConsulturnwhen32cardshavebeenequippedordiscardedtheBoss
spawnsonthenextavailableConsulturn,unlessTheDungeonBosshasalreadybeen
spawnedthroughthedestructionofallSpawnPoints.

ABossorMinibossspawnswithin2squaresofanavailableDungeonEntrance.

EXPLORETHEDUNGEON
Remember,itstheConsulsDungeon,anditisnotafriendlyplacetotheaverageHeroparty
usually.ExploreCardsrepresentthis,withtraps,dungeondwellersnotlinkedtoSpawnPoints,
and(sometimes)evengoodthingsfortheHeroes.

WhenevertheHeroesenteratileforthefirsttime,fliptheExploreCardforthatTilefaceupand
applyitseffectsimmediately.TheHeroescanalsousetheExploreactiononceperTiletodraw
anadditionalExploreCardandapplyitseffectsimmediately.

UsingtheExploreDeckisanadvancedoptionifyouarejuststartingSuperDungeonExplore
werecommendleavingitonthesidelinesfornow.Manyplayersalsofindthatitdragsthegame
unnecessarilyandisunevenlybalancedtowardstheConsulforthoseplayerswhowant
alternatives,lookintheVariantRules.

PRINCESSCOINS
PrincessCoinsaremysticalitem,blessedbythePrincesses,thatcanbecalledupontoheala
Heroinaflashoflightevenbackfromdeath.TheHeroesstartwithtwoPrincessCoinsintheir
Backpack.PrincessCoinscanbeusedinoneofthreeways:

ToremoveallWoundandStatusEffecttokensfromandplaceaPotiontokenonaHeros
card
ToresurrectafallenHerowithfullHeartseithernexttotheHeroesStartMarkeroronthe
HerosSkullToken.
ToaddadifferentHeronexttotheStartMarker.ThenumberofHeroesinplaymaynever
exceedthenumberstartedwith.

ACTIVATION

SPAWNPOINTS

Super!modelsaresupremelypowerfulmonsters,thestrongestintheDungeon,andhave
severalruleswhichapplyonlytothem.MiniBossesandBossesarethemostcommonexample
ofSuper!models,butitispossiblethatotherswillbecreatedinthefuture.

OnemodelwiththelabelofSuper!canbeactivatedforfreeduringaConsulturn.Whenthereis
morethanoneSuper!modelonthetable,theConsulisfreetospendhisallotted4Skullsto
activateone,andthenactivatetheotherforfree.

LOOK OUT, SIR AAUGH!


MinionsandElitesknowthattheBossesofadungeonarefarmoreimportantthanthey,andare
willingtosacrificethemselvesifit'snecessarytodefeattheHeroes.

WheneveranEliteorMinioniswithinlineofsightand2squaresofanySuper!model,the
ConsulcanchoosetoplaceasingleWound(andStatusEffectsthatresultfromthatWound)
ontothatEliteorMinion.NotethatthisonlysavestheSuper!modelfromoneWoundifMassive
Damageisused.

Anyareaofeffect(Sweep,Cross,Burst,orWave)thattheSuper!modelwouldsharewithan
eligibleEliteorMinionisresolvedonthelessermodelsfirst,withanysurvivorsstillbeingeligible
fortheLookOut,SirAAUGH!rule.

ModelswithInsignificantandShellsfromtheRockPileSpawnPointmaynotusethisrule.

LOOT
LootisgainedfromdestroyingMinionandElitemonsters.ForeachMinionorElitemodel
destroyedbyaHerooneLootisdrawnandplacedontheBackpack.Thereisnolimittohow
muchLoottheheroescanacquireduringtheirturns.

TREASURE
WheneveraTreasurecardisobtained,itisplacedintheBackpack.Treasureisobtainedinone
ofthreeways:
OpeningaChestgivestheHeroeseitheroneortwoTreasurecardsdependingonhowitis
openedthisremovestheChestfromthemap.IfoneofthosecardsisaBooBooty,theother
cardisdiscardedandtheBooBootyisspawnedimmediatelywheretheChestwas.
DestroyingaBooBootynotethatanyBooBootycardsdrawnfromaBooBooty's
destructionarediscardedandanewcardisdrawn.There'snosuchthingasinbootyception.
DestroyingaMiniBossplacesitsuniqueTreasuredirectlyintheBackpack.Thisonlytakes
placeonceperMiniBoss,evenifitisrespawnedinsomedeviousfashion.


TREASUREEXCEPTIONS:
SeveralMiniBossesareexceptionstothisrule.KasaroTohasnounique
Treasure,insteadtheHeroesdrawacardfromtheTreasuredeck,discarding
andredrawingifitisaBooBooty.IfCaptainRisdestroyed,theConsuldraws
twocardsfromtheTreasuredeckandmixesCaptainR'sTreasurewiththemthe
Heroespickoneofthosethreecards.

POWERUP
PowerUpoccursattheendofeveryHeroturn.TheHeroeshavetheEquipsection,andthe
ConsulhastheMightyMonsterssection.Itmaytakeplacesimultaneouslyifbothplayersagree
ifnot,Equiphappensfirst,thenMightyMonsters.

EQUIP
AttheendofaHeroturnduringthePowerUpphase,theHeroesmayplaceanyLootor
Treasurecardsontheappropriateslotsoftheircards,subjecttotheselimitations:
Nomorethanonepieceofequipmentperslot.
NomorethanoneTreasureperHero.
NomorethanoneWonderperHero.

IftheHeroessowish,theycanremoveoldequipmentandplacenewequipmentintheslot
duringthisphase,placingtheoldequipmentinthediscardpile.Ifthereareanyunequipped
cardsleftintheBackpackattheendofthisphase,placetheminthediscardpileaswell.Any
TreasurecardsdiscardedcanbeusedtogainaPotionorHeal1effect.

MIGHTYMONSTERS
DuringtheConsulsectionofthePowerUpPhase,dothefollowing:
1)Place4Skullsofmonstersfromthespawnpoolwithin2squaresoftheirassociatedSpawn
Point.AsingleCreepcanbeplacednexttoanySpawnPointduringthisphaseaswell.
2)IftheLootimeterhasreachedtheappropriatenumberorallSpawnPointsaredestroyed,
placetheMiniBossorBosswithin4squaresofadoorwaynotconnectedtoatile.
3)IfaMiniBosshasbeendestroyed,poweruptheregularmonsters.

SpawnPointsmayspawnanymonstercurrentlyinthespawnpoollistedontheircard,evenif
thelimitontheirowncardhasbeenreached.Example:iftheConsulbeginsplaywithtwo
BrambleKnightSpawnPointsandoneisdestroyed,theremainingBrambleKnightmayspawn
asecondGrobbit.

AttheendofanyturninwhichaMiniBosswasdestroyed,allMinions,Elites,Creeps,and
MiniBossesgain+1WStartoalltheirrollsuntiltheendofthegame.Placethemodel

prominentlywithintheConsul'slineofsightsohedoesnotforgetitsvaliantsacrifice.Thisonly
takesplaceonceperMiniBoss,ifitmanagedtoberespawnedviasomeingeniousmeans.

BOSSFIGHT!
TheultimategoalofaHeropartyistoforcetheDungeonBosstospawnandthendestroyit,
bringingmorelightandhopetoCrystalia'sdarkesthour.ThegoaloftheConsulistodestroyall
theHeroesbeforethathappens,strengtheninghisgrasponthedoomedcountry.

Bossesarespawnedinoneoftwoways:
WhentheLootimeterreachestheappropriatecount
IftheHeroesdestroyalltheSpawnPointsbeforethatoccurs.

MonstersmaynotbespawnedfromSpawnPointsaftertheBosshasspawned,butany
remainingSpawnPointsempowertheBoss,givingitoneadditionalactivationinadditiontoany
Super!activationchosen.ThisisthesoleexceptiontotheNomodelmaymovetwiceinthe
sameturnrule.

WhenaBossspawns,dothefollowing:
ApplytheBossSpawneffectfromthemodelsBossFightCard
RemoveallExploreCardeffectsfromthetableexceptCreeps
ShuffletheremainderoftheLootimeterintothediscardpile,makinganewLootDeck.
WoundsinflictedontheHeroesarenotdiscardedfromthisdeck.

BOSS TIMEOUT
AstheBossFightprogressesthedungeonBosswilltakeatimeouttoregroup:itwillremove
statuseffects,summonmoremonsters,andthenrenewitsattackfromanewangle.

ImmediatelyaftertheBosshasanumberofWoundtokensequaltoorgreaterthanhalfofthe
numberofHeartsontheircard,atimeoutistriggered.Beforeanyfurtheractionsarecarriedout,
theConsulperformsallthefollowingstepsinthisorder:

1)RemoveallstatuseffecttokensfromtheBosscard.
2)HealtheBossbacktohalfofitsremainingHearts(roundedup)ifitwent
below.
3)ResolveanytimeouteffectslistedontheBossFightcard.
4)Spawnupto6skullpointsof8Bitor16Bitmonstersfromthespawningpool.
