1. Explain the importance and uses of a research proposal to the sponsors and
researcher.
It is very important to understand. Mostly, students who are new in the field of
research or beginners, dont understand fully what it actually means.
A research proposal needs to be good as ones research. A research proposal is a
proposal through which you need to convince others that you have great research idea
and have the required abilities to complete it on time. The evaluators evaluate your
proposed study through the proposal. So, it should have necessary information and
key elements on the basis of which it could be evaluated.
2. Discuss the 2 types of research proposal.

Solicited
Solicited proposals are those that are written and submitted
in response to the issuance of a "Request for Proposals"
(RFP), a document that identifies a specific research
problem of interest to the funding agency for which they
are specifically seeking a solution. Interested
investigator then submits a concept or "white paper"
briefly outlining their proposed solution to the
problem. If the funding agency or company is interested,
they may then request that the investigator submit a
full proposal for consideration of funding.
Unsolicited
Unsolicited proposals are those proposals that are submitted by an investigator in
response to a "general call" for proposals that is issued by a funding agency or
company in a field or area of study.

3. Assure that you are the manager of a research department of a large

department store. Develop a list of criteria for evaluating the types of research
activities listed below:
a) Market Research

Timely Delivery and Financial Stability turnaround time is critical and is often a
barrier which prevents market research from happening because sometimes it can
take too long.
Knowledge and Responsiveness clients want to work with a research team that
knows its business and can take the data and findings and apply it to
recommendations to improve business. Responsiveness is also key and ties in
nicely with timely delivery. Speed is essential.
Quality Data Collection Techniques not only does data need to be collected fast
but it needs to be high quality. Quality control measures and management of
telephone fieldwork is critical but its even more critical with online and panel
studies when surveys are self-administered by respondents.
Price and Access to Market price is always on everyones list but can it be a
competitive advantage? Access to market is key when selecting a focus group
facility to recruit participants in a nearby market.
Experience and Consultative Skills organizations hiring a market research firm
want to know that the team they are working with has done this before. No
organization wants its project to be the guinea pig for a methodology or for the
first project for a new analyst.
b) Advertising effectiveness
Benefits of the product
Advantages of the product
Choices of the products
Pricing of products
Suitable
c) Employer opinion surveys
Interpersonal communication skills
Passion
Logic & technical skills
Academic results
Leadership skills
d) Credit card operations
Identify the different means of payment modes.
List and explain the types of cards.
Identify the revenues to the issuing bank.

4. What factors should be considered in determining inappropriate sample sites?

The margin of error
(also referred to as the confidence interval)measures the precision with which an
estimate from a single sample approximates the population value.

The confidence level

It is the estimated probability that a population estimate lies within a given margin of
error.
Proportion (or percentage)
of a sample that will choose a give an answer to a survey question is unknown, but its
necessary to estimate this number since it is required for calculating the sample size.

5. Discuss the 2 ways of collecting data using the following types of

questionnaires?
a) Self administered questionnaires
Self-administered questionnaires enable researchers to reach a large number of
potential respondents in a variety of locations, especially when utilizing mail-in
responses or online questionnaires. However, the response rate for self-administered
surveys is relatively low, compared to other methods such as interviews or researcheradministered questionnaires. If the researcher is dependent on survey data to support
his/her research question, or is looking to reach a targeted number of responses, then a
much higher volume of questionnaires must be distributed to account of the low
return rate.
b) Group administered questionnaires
A group-administered survey can be defined as a questionnaire that is given to a group
of people who are participating in a research experiment with the hopes of generating
many different types of answers and opinions that have a general focus on the topic
that is being measured. Group-administered questionnaires are helpful in the sense
that they cut back on time it takes to get responses from all of the participants and
usually you will get all of the responses within that allotted time.
