anti-virus protection programs.

> If You Are Upgrading from a Previous SmartSuite Release

You can install SmartSuite to the same location as the previous release or to a new location. The
SmartSuite Release 9.8 Install program detects whether a previous SmartSuite release is
installed and automatically uninstalls it.
If you are upgrading from Release 9.7, you can follow the Standard Install Instructions below to
uninstall Release 9.7 and install Release 9.8.
If you are upgrading from Release 9.6, you must have access to the Release 9.6 .MSI file to
complete the uninstall of Release 9.6. The Release 9.8 Install program searches for this file in the
following locations:

the network drive and path from where SmartSuite Release 9.6 was installed
the \extra\msi96 directory on the SmartSuite CD-ROM
the \extra\msi96 directory on the network drive where the network administrator
performed the Release 9.8 Administrative Install

If the Install program cannot locate the Release 9.6 .MSI file, the following message displays.

The feature you are trying to use is on a <source> that is not available.
Insert the 'Lotus SmartSuite - <language>' disk and click OK.
where <source> is the location SmartSuite Release 9.6 was installed from.
where <language> is the language version of SmartSuite.
You must provide the Release 9.6 version of the .MSI file before you can continue the Release
9.8 installation. If you are installing from a network, contact your network administrator for the
location of this file on the network. When you locate the correct .MSI file, follow these steps to
proceed with the Release 9.8 installation:
1. If necessary, restart the Release 9.8 Install program.
2. When the error message appears, click Browse in the message box.
3. Navigate to the Release 9.6 .MSI file.
4. Click OK and proceed with the installation.
If you are upgrading from Release 9.5 (or earlier), IBM recommends that you uninstall the
previous SmartSuite release prior to installing Release 9.8.

> If You Are Upgrading from 1-2-3 Standalone Release 9.5 (or earlier)
If you have standalone 1-2-3 Release 9.5 (or earlier) installed on your computer, IBM
recommends that you uninstall it prior to installing SmartSuite Release 9.8.
1. From the Windows taskbar, click Start, choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select Lotus 1-2-3.
4. Uninstall 1-2-3 (and Approach if you installed it for interoperability).
5. Exit the Control Panel.
6. Follow the Standard Install Instructions for SmartSuite.

> If You Are a Network Administrator

For information about installing to a network file server, refer to the Readnet.rtf file located in
the \Lotus folder on the SmartSuite CD-ROM.

> Standard Install Instructions

2. From the Windows taskbar, click Start and then choose Run.
3. Type x:\autorun\startautorun in the Run dialog box, where x: is the letter of your CD-ROM
drive.

4. (Optional) After Install is complete, restart Windows.

Note: SmartSuite includes the Microsoft Software Installer (MSI) Version 2.0. If Version 2.0 is not
present on your system, SmartSuite will install it and force a reboot on your machine before
completing the SmartSuite installation.

Uninstall
The Uninstall program removes all SmartSuite files which were copied to your system when the
SmartSuite product was installed. It also removes all program folders (except for the main Lotus
folder), shortcut icons, icons, and Windows registry entries.
The Uninstall program does not delete files in your work or personal folders, or other files that
were changed after they were installed. It does not delete a folder until all folders and files are
removed from that folder. In addition, the Uninstall program does not remove files copied to a file
server during an Administrative Install.

> Uninstalling a Standard or Node Installation

The Uninstall program can be accessed from the Start menu.
1. From the Windows taskbar, click Start, choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Select Lotus SmartSuite - <language>, where <language> is the language version of
SmartSuite.
4. Choose Add/Remove.

Web site (www.ibm.com).
SmartCenter Release 9.8 no longer contains the following folders: News, Stocks Quotes,
Weather, Web Reference, Travel, Maps, and SmartSuite Tips. If you want to create similar folders
and customize them, right-click the appropriate drawer handle and then click New folder.
Note: If you are upgrading from a prior release and you previously customized SmartCenter
drawers and folders, those customizations may be lost when you install Release 9.8.

> Maintaining Multiple Folder Paths in Word Pro and Freelance Graphics
For Word Pro SmartMaster templates and documents, you can specify multiple folder paths in
the Locations tab in File - User Setup - Word Pro Preferences. During a standalone or node
installation, the user-defined multiple folder paths specified in the previous release are preserved
on the local machine.
For Freelance Graphics SmartMaster templates, you can specify multiple folder paths in File User Setup - Freelance Preferences - File Locations. During a standalone installation, the userdefined multiple folder paths specified in the previous release are preserved on the local
machine. For node installations, the user-defined multiple folder paths specified in the previous
release are not preserved on the local machine. You can manually add the additional paths after
the node install is complete.
Installing to the SAME Location as the Previous Release
If you are upgrading to Release 9.8 and specified multiple folder paths for Word Pro and/or
Freelance Graphics in a previous release, IBM recommends that you install Release 9.8 to the
SAME drive and directory as the previous release. The Release 9.8 Install program will preserve
all of the user-defined paths.
The Release 9.8 Install program backs up the SmartMaster templates located in the Lotusdefined default folder path (for example, x:\lotus\smasters\wordpro). After you have installed
Release 9.8, the SmartMaster templates from the previous release are located in the backup
folder under the Lotus-defined default folder path. The files in user-defined folder paths are not
backed up.
Example
multiple folder path:

c:\lotus\smasters\wordpro;e:\shared\smasters\wordpro

default folder path:

c:\lotus\smasters\wordpro

backup folder path:

c:\lotus\smasters\wordpro\backup

The SmartSuite Install program copies the SmartMaster templates from the default folder path in
the previous release to the backup folder, and installs the Release 9.8 SmartMaster templates to
the default folder path. To restore the SmartMaster templates from the previous release, copy the

SmartMaster template files (*.MWP) from the backup folder to one of the multiple folder paths
specified in User setup.
Note: If the network administrator used an Automated Install with an .RSP file and disabled the
backup option, the SmartMaster templates from the previous release will be available in the
Lotus-defined default folder path specified in User setup. For more information about Automated
Install, refer to the Readnet.rtf file located in the \Lotus directory on the SmartSuite CD-ROM.
Installing to a Different Location than the Previous Release
If you install Release 9.8 to a DIFFERENT drive and/or directory, the Lotus-defined default folder
paths for the SmartMaster templates and Word Pro documents will specify the new drive and/or
directory.
The SmartMaster templates will be located in the backup folder on the drive/directory where the
previous release was installed, but the default folder path in User setup will point to the new
drive/directory where you installed Release 9.8. To restore the SmartMaster templates from the
previous release, copy the SmartMaster template files (*.MWP) from the backup folder where the
previous release was installed, to one of the multiple folder paths specified in User setup for
Release 9.8.
The Word Pro document files will be located in the drive/directory where the previous release was
installed, but the default folder path in User setup will point to the new drive/directory. To restore
the documents from the previous release, copy them from the folder where the previous release
was installed, to one of the multiple folder paths specified in User setup where you installed
Release 9.8.

>ViaVoice Runtime Engine Removed from SmartSuite CD-ROM

SmartSuite Release 9.8 no longer provides the ViaVoice runtime engine in the \extra directory on
CD-ROM. If you use ViaVoice in 1-2-3 and Word Pro, IBM recommends that you install the latest
standalone version of ViaVoice available for your operating system.
Note: Any documentation stating that ViaVoice ships in the \extra directory is no longer accurate.

> Adobe Acrobat Reader Removed from SmartSuite

Documentation in some SmartSuite books, online Help topics, and DocOnline books (.PDF files)
states that Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.02 ships with SmartSuite. Lotus SmartSuite Release 9.8 no
longer includes or installs the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
The SmartSuite Install program does not remove a previously installed Reader. If you are
upgrading from a previous release, the Reader will still be available on your hard disk.
Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the .PDF books located in the Lotus DocOnline folder.
If you are installing SmartSuite for the first time and do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed,
you can obtain the latest version of the Reader from the Adobe Web site.
Note: Adobe Access 3.2 (for accessibility integration in Acrobat Reader) has been removed from
the \extra directory on the SmartSuite Release 9.8 CD-ROM. You can download an accessible
version of the Reader from the Adobe Web site.

>Organizer Converts Competitive File Types

The Organizer conversion utility is in the \extra\organize\convert directory on the SmartSuite
Release 9.8 CD-ROM. Once you install the utility, you can convert the following types of
competitive files to Lotus Organizer: Outlook 97/98, Act! 3.x, Day-Timer Organizer, and Sidekick

>Extra 1-2-3 Maps Removed from SmartSuite CD-ROM

The \extra\123\maps directory has been removed from the SmartSuite Release 9.8 CD-ROM. All
current map files are included in 1-2-3 Release 9.8.

> New Registration Tool

SmartSuite Release 9.8 contains a new Web-based product registration program which prompts
you to register at the end of the SmartSuite installation. Please re-register SmartSuite using the
new registration tool.
Note: The postage-paid registration card mentioned in the documentation is no longer included in
the SmartSuite package.

Troubleshooting
>Error Message Exiting 1-2-3 from Domino.Doc (via ODMA)
An error message "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" may
display when exiting 1-2-3 under the following conditions:

1-2-3 is launched from a Domino.Doc ODMA client machine.

The operating system is Windows 95 or 98.

The Domino.Doc registry key to make 1-2-3 compliant with Domino.Doc is incorrect or missing.
To resolve the problem, you can manually create the registry key for 1-2-3.
1. In a command prompt window, type REGEDIT and press ENTER.
2. Navigate to the following registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\lotus\Domino.Doc
Desktop Enabler/ODMADeInitApps."

1. In a command prompt window, type REGEDIT and press ENTER.
2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKCU\Software\Lotus\WordPro\99.0\lwpuser.ini\WordProUser\UnderlineNumList
3. Change the registry key value to:

0 to not retain underline attribute when first character in the text after bullet is underlined
1 to retain the underline attribute when first character in the text after bullet is underlined

Note: The default value is 0.

4. Save the registry key value and close Regedit.
If you change the value of the registry key to 1 and then launch Word Pro, the numbered bullets
are underlined if the first character after the bullet is underlined.
Note: The Windows registry is central to the operation of Windows and any changes must be
performed with care. As with any configuration change, it is highly recommended that customers
have complete backups of computer systems and data files before modifying the Windows
registry.

>Multiple folder paths are "missing" after installation in Word Pro and Freelance
Graphics
If you specified multiple folder paths in a previous release and then upgrade to Release 9.8,
some Word Pro SmartMaster template files and/or documents and/or Freelance Graphics
SmartMaster templates from the previous release may be "missing" from the Lotus-defined
default folder paths.
If you installed Release 9.8 to the SAME directory as the previous release:

The Word Pro and Freelance Graphics SmartMaster template files will be located in a
backup folder. You can manually copy these files to the Lotus-defined default folder path
(for example, x:\lotus\smasters\wordpro) or to one of the user-defined multiple folder
paths specified in User setup.

The Word Pro document files will be located in the same folder path(s) as the previous
release.

If you installed Release 9.8 to a DIFFERENT directory than the previous release:

The Word Pro and Freelance Graphics SmartMaster template files will be located in a
backup folder on the previous drive/directory. You can manually copy these files to the
appropriate folder path on the NEW drive/directory.

The Word Pro document files will be located in the same folders on the previous
drive/directory. You can manually copy these files to the appropriate folder path on the
NEW drive/directory.

Note: IBM recommends that you install Release 9.8 to the SAME drive and directory as the prior
release.
For more information, refer to "Maintaining Multiple Folder Paths in Word Pro and Freelance
Graphics" in the Information about SmartSuite Release 9.8 section above.

>NotesSQL Version 3.01 is not installed during SmartSuite Installation
