In the human service, field helper will deal with a vast aria of people, beliefs, and ideas.
It isnt the helper job to change those beliefs or ideas only to help simply the person become selfsufficient. In working with people who dont serve a higher power are feel the need to address
the fact that I do would be a slight issue dealing with clients. Helpers arent supposed to put
their beliefs off on clients and patients neither should the client be able to force theirs on me.
When dealing with clients of different beliefs it is only appropriate to bring up religion
and spiritual beliefs if the client does. Then you should only be willing to address certain
viewpoints. The helper should take the time to learn and understand the clients culture and
beliefs as to not defend the client are their beliefs. In issues where men tend to think that women
cant work out side the home, considered women lower and uneducated then men or those who
dislike me for what I believe are look like would be challenging. Using the transcultural
integrative model steps would help to make decisions on how to move forward with clients of
those beliefs and ideas.
The transcultural integrative model uses a step-by-step format that counselors can use in
dealing with ethical dilemmas in a variety of settings and with different client populations Corey,
Corey, & Callanan, 2011). In using this model if would help to understand what my course of
action should be in the case of a Muslim male who cant talk to me and seems to show the little
respect due to his belief. It is important to remember that the most important part of the human
services job is to put the clients best interest first. The first ethical step would be to get
counseling on the issue of the how the client makes me feel and what progress the client is
making. If the client is making progress, then my next step would be to have a talk with the
client about figuring out how we can move past this bump. If the client isnt progressing and our

differences are the issue then removing myself and referring the client would be the next best
option.
Having a guideline and set rules help to chart a course for dealing with issues that have a
broad scooped like dealing with different faiths. Getting advice are counsel on how to make sure
the client is receiving the best possible services should also be used if you cant seem to find a
solution. Working with the client to come to a solution helps to move in the direction the client
wants to move.
