Project: Standardizing 4- Degree Training

Identify problem: Training is up to training officer discretion and is not standardized

across the wing. This creates discontinuity. Not all 4-degrees are not trained to the
same degree. Therefore some 4-degrees are trained harder and have more
discipline than others. All 4-degrees should be held to the same standard and level
of training.
What does standardized training look like: ROE outlining training for the week.

Example: Monday is high intensity; listed will be the approved exercises and
activities, same for medium and low intensity days. Training ROE will be sent
out monthly.

Objective for project: Use concepts to solve problem

Goal: influence those we interact with about this topic, influence the class to see
that this is a good idea
Action Step 1: Surveying 4-degrees
Four Degree Training
In- Person Question
o Did you think four degree training was impactful? If yes, in what way, if
no, why not?
Yes, No, Sometimes Questions
o The purpose of each training session was made clear.
o The presence of upperclassmen made the training session more
impactful.
o Every training session was a beat session.
o Each training session seemed planned out in advance.
Did your classmates in other squadrons have more intense or less intense training
sessions than your squadron?
More Intense
Less Intense
Same level of intensity
Did your classmates in other squadrons have the same amount of training sessions?
Less training sessions per week
More training sessions per week
Same amount of training session per week
Action Step 2: Talking to Training Officers

Approach: informal, interested..how you approach them determines how they will
respond

Incorporated Concepts:
1. Compliance response
2. Social proof
3. Social self-efficacy
4. Organizational culture and symbols (rituals= BCT)
Questions for Training officers:
1. How did training go this semester?
Prenty well but some pussies in squad were like dont beat them
so hard, why are you so mean, but other than it went pretty well
considering we were number 1
2. Did you receive guidance from Group or Wing on weekly training
plans?
Im sure Joe did, no exact plans, I dont think wing did anything
except get in my way- ex no race tracks. No plans or feedback
but restrictions
3. Did you follow the guidance to the tee or did you deviate from it and
create your own?
I made my own- decide
4. Was each training session defined and planned out in advance?
If yes: Was this because of organized guidance from group/wing?
Not bc of organized guidance, planned our own stuf
If no: Why?
5. If they could change anything about training what would they change?
Make it more difficult-theyll remember the mental strength
(toughness) they had in the hard moments but they wont
remember land nav
Mental toughness will save their lives, make them better officers
6. Do you think standardizing training across the Wing would be
beneficial?
Yes, but could lose out on leadership
If we say you have to do 3 hard training session and 1 easy, but
they do really well and you want the third one to be easy, cant
do that
Overarching training objectives- training staf decides how to do
so
Need to empower ppl- give them autonomy
The shitbag training officers have put in work to meet the
objectives

Action Step 3: Talking to Summer 2016 BCT Commander C2C Franklin

Rhea will talk to her

Supporting evidence:

Comments from MTI (Military Training Instructors from Lackland AFB)

Concept: authority
Pass out sample monthly training ROE

Conclusion: Based on information gathered, we were able to influence others that

standardized training would be beneficial for 4-degree training across the wing.
