5 MORAL VALUES EVERY BUSINESS SHOULD HAVE

Virtue, according to Mintz in 1996, means acquired human qualities, the excellences
of character, which enable a person to achieve the good life. According to the articles Ive
read there are some virtues mentioned that should owned by every business. Five among
them, which I found in In Search Of Virtue, are wisdom, courage, humanity, justice, and
temperance. Those virtues not only valued by moral philosophers and religious thinkers all
over the world but also emerged as almost universally accepted components of what might be
considered good character.
Wisdom, having creativity, curiosity, open minded and love of learning as its traits.
This virtue functioned as a cognitive strengths that entail the acquisition and use of
knowledge. Wisdom plays major role because the more curious and creative a business
allows itself to become, the more it gains perspective.
Courage is needed in a business because the braver and more persistent a business
become, the more the integrity will increase because it will reach a state of feeling vital;
which will result in being more courageous in character (in a process when the business
developed).

Its basic traits are actually bravery, persistence, and integrity in average.

Courage itself describes as emotional strengths that involve the exercise of will to accomplish
goals in the face of opposition, external or internal.
Humanity describes as an interpersonal strengths that involve tending and befriending
others. This virtue is important in relation to the responsibility to the environment. Having
kindness, compassion, generosity, and social intelligence as the mean traits of this virtue, it
involves love, kindness and social intelligence.

By showing respect, appreciation, and

interest (social intelligence), a business could practice kindness through the charity work, and
make sure to shows love to the surroundings.
Justice defines as civic strengths that underlie healthy and stable community life.
This virtue is important in making employees feel secure in a company. In average, the traits
of justice are citizenship, fairness and leadership. So, by having justice, people could work in
a group, treat people in fairness, and encourage the group to get things done.
The last one is temperance. In other words, this virtue is a strength that protect
against excess. As a virtue, temperance involes forgiveness, humility, prudence and selfregulation on the average.

This is important since being forgiving, merciful, humble,

prudent, and under control of your behaviors and instincts will prevent you from being
arrogant, selfish, or any other trait that is excessive.
