Yes it's possible.

I will give my strategy, feel free to tweak it based on your requirements.
I do self study and below is my schedule and i would advise you to first
Build the capacity to study 10-12 hrs over time , i mean start with 3 hrs a day then continue
it for a month diligently, then extend it to 6 hrs a day and continue for two more months ,
then extend it to 9 hrs a day and continue for 3 more months, then extend it to 12 hrs and
continue like that.
So if you start today, by the time you reach 12 hrs a day it will be time of July, August and
you would be killing in prelims and if you can continue that for next 4 months you are sure
to ace your mains.
Understand that momentum is the key to UPSC preparation and momentum needs to be
cultivated over time and not instantaneously.
I believe you are not working now, So I will give you my daily strategy which i try to keep
up and even though i fail i don't get disappointed because its the quality time that
matters and not the quantity of time.
6-8 : General Studies (2 hrs)
8-9 : Break 1
9-12 : Current Affairs (The Hindu + note making) (3 hrs)
12-2 : Break 2

0. News papers - Hindu or Indian express would be needed

1. GS Prelims:
You need NCERT Books - you can download them online (ncerts are must for
geography & history)
You need a test series - you can enroll for Insights IAS Online test series or
practice lots of MCQs being posted on IASBABA, CivilsDaily, Insights,
UPSCPortal etc.
For safe side any one General Studies manual say TMH or Access Publishing buy from flipkart or amazon
2. GS Mains :
You need to refer to some standard text books(you can get book list from quora
pages or from topper's interviews) and you can buy almost all of them online
Test Series - Enroll for Vision Online test series, they give regular feedback to
your answers or regularly write in Insights Secure 2016 or IASBABA THINK

3. Optional :
Based on your optional you can get a book list and practice them religiously and
do the previous year questions.

EDIT 1:
The above time division that i gave is ideal, but i too keep failing it many times, but i try
again and again. So, I just wanted to say its ok to fail but not ok to stop trying :)

Yes it is possible.Try some basics1. Revise two times before exam: Plan your studies carefully. Adequate time should be
kept for revision. Both General Studies and Aptitude sections should be revised atleast
twice, one week before the exam.
2. Focus on ecology, environment, art and culture: A large number of questions
come from ecology, environment and art & culture. These areas should be prepared in
detail from the best available sources.
3. Solve mock test papers: Candidates should attend mock tests and solve previous year
papers. This will increase the accuracy and speed significantly. It also helps in picking out
the most appropriate option in the exam.
4. Get your basics clear: In the changed pattern, the stress is more on the concept
clarity rather than simply mugging up the data. The prelims-2015 is still six months away;
candidates must devote good time in understanding the basics.
(NOTE-TO CLEAR IAS YOU SHOULD KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT EVERYTHING SO
NEVER WASTE YOUR TIME IN COLLECTING BOOKS AND MAKING YOUR ROOM A
LIBRARY INSTEAD TRY TO FOCUS ON SYLLABUS)
FOR PREPOLITY-read m.laxmikant (chapters according to syllabus only)
GEOGRAPHY-NCERT 11(1+2)
ECONOMICS-RAMESH SINGH(BASIC UNDERSTANDING). Concept building is imp.
HISTORY-SPECTRUM(REVISE LAST PAGE SUMMARY MULTIPLE TIMES AFTER
UNDERSTANDING CONCEPTS)
ENVIRONMENT-I.C.S.E class 10(summary of all 24 chapters)
ARTS AND CULTURE-INDIAN YEARBOOK

YOJANA-(ONLY DO YOU KNOW SECTION)

NOTE-try motivating yourself everyday. usually students tend to loose focus after 1-2
months.

MAINS1.mains is basically art of thinking and management.read THE HINDU daily. along with
that manorama yearbook and yojana will be helpful.
2.focus on practising(key to success)
CONCLUSION with self confidence ,regular motivation and smartwork you will definitely
get success.

First thing is don't be calculative in your preparation as things are always uncertain in this
exam...
Polity: try to complete laxmikant in 1 month making side notes in the book itself.
History: anci,med , modern compile at one place..do give a reading..remember important
points. Solve questions as practice helps you to retain more.
Economics: you can complete it in 1 month . try reading mrunal lectures. Read
NCERT 9, 10,11 because 12 th is mostly practical kind.
Geography: try finishing NCERT 11 and 12 wholeheartedly you can use 6-10 too for
better understanding.
Art, Environment and Science: you can read nitin singhania notes for art and NCERT
7th class for env. Science if u have time can cover in few days.
This whole will take almost 5 months if you read consistently. And you can side by side
read the Hindu..
Still you are left with 2 months time to revise..
All the best..
