Background of the Study

The intimidation of geological events particularly climate change has placed

environmental sustainability objectively at the center of the policy agenda.
Governments around the entire spots of Cagayan including Tuguegarao city , are
developing policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable
practices. Legibly, change needs to happen at all levels, including the international,
intra-national, institutional, individual level and especially households.Philippines s
per capita greenhouse gas emissions were laso contained in the previous list of
2000 years greenhouse gas emissions (World Resources Institute 2000). Thus, the
household in its discrete dwelling setting is a significant site for action. There is a
need to understand how to facilitate more significant use of resources not just
through installation of devices that promote resource conservation and efficiency
(i.e. efficiency actions) but even through changed household practices (i.e.
curtailment actions). In line with this need, Tuguegarao city government agencies
and officials have introduced policies aimed at promoting household sustainability
through discount and green loan schemes for the installation of energy and waterefficient appliances such as the solar panels which are commonly used in school
and households to lessen the use of factors that may effect sudden destructions of
the environment.Education programs that promote energy and water-efficient
practices are also evident(Barangay Bayanihan tungo sa Kalinisan ng Bayan). While
these policies and programs represent a positive steps toward promoting household
preservation, more research is needed to fully understand how we can move
Tuguegarao city households toward sustainability. There is a need to understand
current sustainability practices of every Filipino households with a view to
identifying the factors that facilitate or undermine engagement in these
practices.Tuguegaraoenos must do assertions or highlights to develop an
understanding of the factors that reinforce householders sustainability decisions,
but also to explore the ways in which these decisions may be impacted by sociodemographic factors. The aim of the current research is to understand the key
factors that reinforce household sustainability decisions and the ways that more
sustainable decisions can be promoted. The current research also seeks to explore
householders responses to a range of policy options that currently exist or may be
introduced in the future.
Statement of the Problem
These broad aims will be addressed with research speaking to the following specific
questions.
1. What are Tuguegarao city householders waste, water, energy attitudes and
practices?

2. Are there differences in these across socio-economic groups and according to

tenure (owners vs. renters) and household type (e.g. single person vs. couple with
children)?
3. How have waste, water, energy attitudes and practices changed over time?
4. What factors have driven changes in household waste, water, energy attitudes
and practices?
5. What is the relationship between householders waste, water, energy attitudes
and practices (i.e. behaviour) and does this relationship vary according to Socioeconomic Status (SES), household type, tenure or behavioural domain?
6. What are the most effective ways of shaping positive change in household
waste, water, energy perceptions and behaviour and what are the costs and benefits
of these approaches for stakeholders?
Hypothesis
There is no effective ways of shaping positive change in household
waste,water,energy perceptions and behaviour.
Significance of the Sudy
The study will improve and develop the mental thinking of tuguegarao householders
from understanding their installment of their garbage or waste, water conservation
and energy(henceforth waste, water, energy )attitudes and behaviours and
practices and key influences on these.Apart from this,it is for them to understand
changes in these attitudes and practices overtime and the drivers of change. To
identify and asses strategies for effecting positive changes in household
waste, water and energy. And to understand the influence of socio-economic
status, household and household type on these issues.
Scope and Delimitation
This study focused on ly on the expansive understanding of Tuguegarao households
to manage proper waste disposal, water conservation and the use of energy
practices. This study involves the possible results of the householders
environmental behaviours and attitudes to build a massive interaction in the
community to reoresent steps toward promoting household sustainability. It also
deals on the factors that have driven changes in households
waste,water,energy,attitudes and practices.
Defintion of Terms

Behaviors-the way in which the householder acts regarding environmental

sustainability.
Climate change-in the study it is a geological events that has placed environmental
sustainability of objectively at the center of the policy agenda.
Curtailment-reducing or restricting something.
Efficiency-quality of being efficient of of Tuguegarao Households to do steps toward
promoting household preservation.
Energy-ability of a system to perform work.
Households-the person or afamily who should perform proper environmental
practices.

position in relation to others, based on income, education, and occupation.

dependency on traditional power sources.
