HOW TO USE THIS DOCUMENT

ABOUT THE QUESTIONING TOOL:


Questioning Tool is essential in expounding competencies not evidently
demonstrated in written and performance test. It is used in probing the
breathe and depth trainees answers to ensure validity and reliability of
assessment result.

GUIDELINES IN USING THIS FORM:


Questions can be derived from the following:
Dimensions of competency such as task, task management,
contingency management and job or role and environment
management skills
Vocational or technical knowledge
Workplace procedure and regulations
Safety requirements
Keep the question brief, structured, and focused on one key concept
Use language at the suitable level of the candidate
Use open-ended probing questions to clarify, confirm or supplement
evidence by asking questions what would you do if..., what if you
were using... instead of..? or how do you...? rather than closedended questions
Write a list of responses to ensure reliability of assessment

GUIDE IN CONSTRUCTING ORAL QUESTIONS:


Types of Oral Questions to be asked after a demonstration or observation
1. Extension / Reflection Questions . Supplemental or additional questions to ask in order to
allow the student/trainee to elaborate further on the subject matter.
A hypothetically different situation : What would you do if ? How?
Alternative equipment / procedures, etc.:What if you were using instead of.. ?
Explain.
Preventive safety measure : What would you do ? Why?

2. Safety Questions. Questions to prevent accidents or injury to the student/trainee prior to


demonstration of the skills.

Precautionary safety measure : What precautions must you take when ?


Use of personal safety or protective equipment : What safety equipment and
clothing should you use when ?
Procedure or activity that is not permitted : Why should you not ?
Preventive safety measure : How do you avoid ?
Dangerous or difficult situation : What would you do if ?

3. Contingency Questions. Questions to ask in cases of accident, emergencies, irregular


breakdown of machines / equipment or any conflict in the workplace.
Accident or emergency: What would you do in the event of ?
Equipment broke down or something malfunctioned: What would you do if ?
Complaint was made or conflict occurred: What would you do if ?
Preventive safety measure: How do you avoid ?
4. Infrequent Events / Activities. Questions on situations that seldom or rarely happen like
unforeseen or fortuitous events.
Rarely occurring but critical situation: What would you do if ?
Anticipation of events: If happened, what action would you take?
5. Regulations And Procedures. Questions that entail standard operating procedures (SOPs);
Dos or Donts in a given situation.
SOPs: What are the regulations with respect to ?
Procedures or steps: What are the specific procedures or steps to ?
Requirements of the manufacturer/supplier: What are the requirements of the
manufacturer/supplier ?
Situation or activity: What are the rules necessary for .?
