Lesson Content
What Standards (national
or state) relate to this
lesson?
(You should include ALL
applicable standards. Rarely
do teachers use just one:
theyd never get through
them all.)
Essential Understanding
(What is the big idea or
essential question that you
want students to come away
with? In other words, what,
aside from the standard and
our objective, will students
understand when they finish
this lesson?)
Objectives- What are you
teaching?
(Student-centered: What will
students know and be able to
do after this lesson? Include
the ABCDs of objectives:
action, behavior, condition,
and degree of mastery, i.e.,
"C: Given a sentence written
in the past or present tense,
A: the student B: will be able
to re-write the sentence in
future tense D: with no errors
in tense or tense contradiction
(i.e., I will see her
yesterday.)."

SS.1.C.1.2: Give examples of people who have the power and authority to make and
enforce rules and laws in the school and community.

Who has the power and authority to make and enforce rules and laws at school?

We will be reviewing a sub part of this standard, which is to talk about the people who
help us at school through rules, part take in the community, and build the community.
Thus the objective for this specific lesson is the following.
Given a written text students will be able to recognize examples of who helps us at
school with guided discussion.

not need to be a percentage.)
Rationale
Address the following
questions:
Why are you teaching this
objective?
Where does this lesson fit
within a larger plan?
Why are you teaching it
this way?
Why is it important for
students to learn this
concept?
Evaluation Plan- How will
you know students have
mastered your objectives?
Address the following:
What formative evidence
will you use to document
student learning during
this lesson?
What summative evidence
will you collect, either
during this lesson or in
upcoming lessons?

I am teaching this objective to make sure my students have a foundation for who
helps them in a school through jobs and rules.
This lesson fits in with the larger unit plan on school community and rules or laws.
We decided to teach it this way to be more engaging for students.
It is important to teach this content because it is what helps a school function and
the student learn.

I will be asking students questions to see their understanding as a form of

formative assessment.
The summative assessment that will be paired later with this area of learning

The content knowledge that a teacher need to teach this lesson is the purpose of

authority in schools, who helps the students in the school, and the purpose and use of
rule and laws in the school community in general in the student perspective.
A student needs to know what is the purpose of rule and laws in the school community as
well as the important people in the school community.

How will you ensure

students have this
previous knowledge?
Who are your learners?
What do you know about
them?
What do you know about
their readiness for this
content?
What misconceptions
might students have about
this content?

A misconception that a student might have in this area would be what could be
considered help in the school community. EX: might not understand that lunch personal
help get food while teacher help them learn. Both help but in different ways.
