magazines?
After the financial crisis during 2008/9 like other countries, Ukraine was also susceptible
to protect its market from possible economic turmoil. However, this crisis made Ukraine
to realize the importance of EU for its trade prosperity .As a result they signed DCFTA.,
the historic trade agreement aimed to boost trade in goods and services between the EU
and Ukraine by gradually cutting tariffs (Gurdian,2016).This agreement made Ukraine

less protectionist against EU.

However the trade agreement (DCFTA) nurtured to deteriorate relation between Russia
and Ukraine as it was against the wish of Putin government. . Referring to the Russias
vast interest in internal affair of Ukraine , the protest Euromaidan started which was
regarded as the Revolution of Dignity by Ukrainian citizens (The Economicst,2016) .
Relations between Russia and Ukraine continued to deteriorate more, since Russia
annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in March 2014.
This Resulted, change in Government, which favored Ukrainian sovereignty and was
against Russia. SO the New governments economic and trade policy were directed
against Russia; this raised Ukraines policy towards more protectionist against
Russia and less towards EU. The trade minister introduced import ban on
selected agricultural and foods products went into effect in response to
a Russian embargo on Ukrainian goods.(International Business
Times,2016). In addition to that both the country increased their
restrictions on each others goods , In response Ukraine increased its
embargo .According to the Moscow times (2016) Kiev has added 70
new items to its list of banned Russian goods. Certain vegetables, as
well as sauces, ketchup and baked goods have been added to the list.
To decrease its Russian dependency on energy ,Ukraine, has not bought gas directly
from Russia since November 2015, instead importing 53.3 mcm of natural gas daily from
Europe.(Reuters,September 2016).
