Abstract
As a part of the academic requirements, an Industrial
Training Programme was undergone from June 27 to 31 August,
2016. During the training period, and its a great opportunity to
intern at UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PERLIS.
This internship report consist of two separate projects
whose topics are based on construction site activities and
assessment. The project is ICT building and also the hostel
building in pauh .
In the construction site supervisions, so this report focus
on the all sort of building materials, methods equipment. Matslab foundations are used to distribute heavy column and wall
loads across the entire building area, to lower the contact
pressure compared to conventional spread footings. The first
step in the construction was plot-levelling, followed by marking
and excavation of soil according to the engineering drawings.
PCC was laid to a thickness of 0.15m to level the base of the
trench. Bar bending, placing and tying of rebar are also done.
The foundation consists of two reinforcement mats.

The reinforcements are also made for the connecting

beams and the four columns that are to be raised, Shuttering
is also done Concreting is carried out in three stages. On the
first day of concreting, the bottom slab and the connecting
beams are concreted, the next day concreting is done for the
first 1.5m lift of the column. Since the tower is made of steel,
the foundation is to be connected to the tower using tower
bolts, so the tower bolts are fastened to their positions by using
templates. On the next day the final stage of concreting is
carried out. Shutters are removed and plastering is done.
Continuous curing for seven days is compulsory for any
concreting works

Sebagai sebahagian daripada keperluan akademik, Program Latihan

Industri telah menjalani dari 27 Jun hingga 31 Ogos 2016. Dalam tempoh
latihan, dan ia adalah satu peluang besar untuk pelatih di UNIVERSITI
MALAYSIA PERLIS.laporan latihan ini terdiri daripada dua projek
berasingan yang topik berdasarkan aktiviti tapak pembinaan dan
penilaian. Projek ini adalah bangunan ICT dan juga bangunan asrama di
pauh
Dalam penyeliaan tapak pembinaan, jadi tumpuan laporan mengenai
semua jenis bahan-bahan binaan, peralatan kaedah. asas Mat-papak
digunakan untuk mengedarkan tiang dan dinding beban berat di seluruh
kawasan bangunan itu, untuk menurunkan tekanan kenalan berbanding
footings penyebaran konvensional. Langkah pertama dalam pembinaan
adalah plot meratakan, diikuti dengan menandakan dan penggalian tanah

mengikut lukisan kejuruteraan. PCC disemadikan ketebalan 0.15m ke

tahap asas parit. Bar lentur, meletakkan dan mengikat rebar juga
dilakukan. Yayasan ini terdiri daripada dua tikar pengukuhan. Bala juga
dibuat untuk rasuk menyambung dan empat tiang yang perlu
dibangkitkan, Shuttering juga dilakukan konkrit dijalankan dalam tiga
peringkat. Pada hari pertama konkrit, papak bahagian bawah dan rasuk
menghubungkan sedang KONKRIT, konkrit hari berikutnya dilakukan untuk
lif 1.5m pertama tiang. Sejak menara diperbuat daripada keluli, yayasan
itu akan disambungkan ke menara menggunakan bolt menara, jadi bolt
menara diikat ke jawatan mereka dengan menggunakan template. Pada
keesokan harinya peringkat akhir konkrit dijalankan. Shutters dikeluarkan
dan melepa dilakukan. pengawetan berterusan selama tujuh hari adalah
wajib bagi apa-apa kerja konkrit

these 10 week training. we want thank and show our attitude the well qualified UniMAP stuff
and lecturers, especially in the school of environmental(ppkas), starting with our dean of the
environmental school. ,the coordinator of industrial training and development dr. Nurizian
mohd, we want also show our appreciation, respect and gratitude to our host company

management ir.ghapar, our supervisor engineer najib , our assisting engineer Lugman and
everybody who made it easier for us to finish our training among the company staff .
I also extend my sincere appreciation to my faculty members (Civil
Engineering Department), who provided there valuable suggestions and
precious time in accomplishing my project report Besides, this training
program makes me realized the value of working together as a team and
as a new experience in working environment, which challenges us every
minute. Lastly, I would like to thank the almighty and my parents for their
moral support and my friends with whom I shared my day-to-day
experience and received lots of suggestions that improved my quality of
work.

INTRODUCTION
Industrial training is student placement process in any organization whether that
organization is under public government or private, where it is one of the module that
residing within learning system. The purpose of this is to show them to the real work site and
its environment. Students who attended or take their studies under UniMAP University have
to 10 weeks training to complete their academics and syllabus for their four years plan for

their bachelor degree. Students have to present their work experience in the form of log book
which shows the work done by the students weekly and daily and also a report for the detail.
Students are recommended to apply to their favorite companies and their field they
are interested in to make it easier to students to perform in the training field without pressure
and also to make it for them exciting for their activity.
When undergoing industrial training, apart from diary and daily activity log book
industrial training report also is one condition that need to be obeyed by each student to
qualify to accept degree or the bachelor degree. So each student should at least pass and
undergo in this industrial training report.

1.2

Objective

During the industrial training, the trainee will learn on how to apply
the theoretical knowledge gained from the university in the real industrial
application. They also will faces with various types of problem and
challenges where that they had never found in campus life before.
Basically, the objective of Industrial Training is listed as below:

To encourage students to apply theory and practical knowledge.
To cultivate self-discipline and responsibility in students task
involvement and identify their own strengths and weakness.

1.3 Location of Industrial Training

Each student that qualified to go for Industrial Training can apply to

any companies that related to their course. They need to apply by
submitted their application form with resume and the company will give
their feed back to them. After the students get the place for INTRA, they
need to give their approval to do training there. Then, on the day, INTRA
student will do the confirmation and verify their practical companies
before performing their training to the Training Coordinator. The students
will report their duty there.

REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT & DEVELOPMENT CO, during 8 weeks starting
from 28 June 2016 until 26 Augu

Job Position

Position that was given to trainee is OJT (On Job Trainee). It means,
the OJT will learn and help the staff doing the task given. It is also

exposure to the OJT to the real work situations and gain more experiences
about working environment. This is useful change that we cannot get this
experience at other place. Industrial Training is one of the important parts
of study for student, so they can learn and achieve knowledge as much as
they can on their field.

Task Given

During industrial training period, the company managed to generate

a number of projects. It is the generous of the company as the trainee was
given a chance to participate fully in several tasks. The first task is making
the technical drawing for the company. The second task is understanding
and takes part toward the production and process in foundry, fabrication
and also trusses department. Besides that, I also have been exposing to
learn and help for the administration department to manage the
document and brainstorming together on how to increase the production
and make the company always the best.

CHAPTER 2

INTRA PROJECTS AND MAIN ACTIVITIES

Introduction
In this chapter, there will be a sort summary regarding tasks and
activities that have been done throughout practical training period. The
working hours industrial training from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6
pm.

Tasks and Activities

There are several tasks and activities that have been done throughout
industrial training such as site observation, monitoring structure concrete
works, checking of reinforcement bars and checking of building defects
whether it is during construction, completed or within defects liability
period. Also have been exposed to every stage of construction for a
building this due to there were several projects that is on progress at
several different stages of construction.

In week one on the first day , was introduced to the staffs in company
and brought to every construction site throughout PAUH , and asked to
read

the project related files and find out about

the contractors and

consultants in charged for each of the project .

In second week of industrial training, was exposed to the classic method
of defect inspection. and went to the construction throughout PAUH ( ICT
BUILDING AND HOETELS ) For site observation and supervising , checking
of reinforcement bars and monitoring of concreting works .

In 3rd week

and fourth in industrial training was taught on the method to

do reinforcement bar checking by supervisor. For this work, started being

exposed to the reinforcement concrete drawings and architectural
drawing. Most of the time need to check and rectify the reinforcement bar.
In site visit, started with site observations and checking of
reinforcement bars. The purpose of the observations assures the projects
is being built in general conformance with the contract documents and
according to the design concept.

In week 5 & 6 was good week as had the chance to participate in the site
inspection
This event would be participated by representative from consultancy,
contractor, and projects supervisor. And monitored the concreting works
and structure work. All the checking was done according to the
reinforcement and architectural drawing.

the

completed double story ICT building project also given the floor plans of
the project in order to allow marking down those defects and making a
simple report to the management for repairing work, and monitoring the
concrete work and checking of defects for PF2 HOSTEL UNIMAP

in

PAUH .also required to monitor the concreting works of slabs , beams ,

staircase & column , also cleaning work in the site & electrical cables and
finishing work in the new hostel building .

Completion ceremony of project

In our early training days our project manager
called us on a meeting which was a closing ceremony, for one the projects
which is completed by the company.
This closing ceremony at beginning was an exchange of the documents
which was in the contract of the two companies, the contractor which is
the company that we were working under it and the subcontractor which
was from Kedah.
Our project manager called us on this meeting so we can witness to see
what is like to be in a contract which concerns construction.

CHAPTER 4

DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATION

4.1

Discussion

Through this period of training, I realized that no doubt hands-on

experience plays a very important role, ones academic basics needs to be
strong and clear too. This helps tremendously when it comes to
troubleshooting. The ability to read and understand manuals efficiently is
another important requirement in this field also ability to reed the drawing
and know the steel bar in each plan.
From the training I had finished through 2 months which starting on
28 June 2016 until 26 augest 2016 at host company, INVESTORS REAL
ESTATE. With training provided by the company, it help trainee to achieve
the goals and objectives of Industrial Training (InTra) as wanted by UniMAP.
Students who undergo this industrial training may adapt themselves
to the real working world for the future. In addition, this industry training
might provide in-depth knowledge before students move into the real
working world. Industrial training created a spirit of teamwork and good
relationships with each other.
Last but not last, from the observations obtained, the company is

very concerned about attitude, discipline and personal development of

each employee to ensure all tasks are carried out smoothly. In addition,
workers also implemented attitude of cooperation with each other as their
respective areas of work are linked.

4.2

Recommendation

a Civil engineering is the once faster growing in engineering field,

even this course very familiar for environment there always have
new equipment which go along with latest and high technology. If
university side can take or apply the technology used in industry to
subject where student can study it, the university can produce the
student needed by market job because the student was expose to
the latest and high technology.
b Toleration and discussion between University and Host Company is
very important to get new information's about the trainee that
attached to do the industrial Training at their place.
c The university should produce enough budgets to buy more
laboratory equipment and mechanical devices that can help the
study process. This is because until now we have not enough
equipment in our lab.
d The industrial internship should be conducted at the last semester
so that we can directly continue our career in that industry if we
found it is suitable for us.

CONCLUSION

5.1 Conclusion
This training is used to expose students to the industry
environment with respect to self-independency, responsibility, and
creativity. So this program can show the level of the student in their
responsibility, creativity, credibility, efficiency of task given to the
student in team work and how they settle the work. After a few
months in this company, the student realized that what have
learned before in the collage is not actually same with what have
done here in practical session. There for, lots of experience and new

knowledge that was gained from this firm is useful and cannot be
obtained from the any book or note from the lecturer.
Basically there is a lot of new knowledge, experience and
information that we can get from this program, which is useful and
can be used as a basic knowledge when we in working environment
and lifestyle. Mechanical Engineering is a very important field
whereby discipline and responsibility are among the criteria which a
person who works in this field must have, as we are dealing with
human lives and will always need to meet the customer need.
So for the overall conclusion, this industry training is so
meaningful, exciting and valuable experience for me. This is
because besides having an experience in working life environment
student also learn about new things and it's very challenging for me
to use the theory learning before this. So, this syllabus must be
conducted to the entire student to make sure that they will ready for
their future.
