Introduction

INTRODUCTION
The government of India has brought a good initiative to bring women
empowerment in India. The effect of this initiative can be seen in all sectors of the
economy and it includes banking and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs)
also.
Banks are financial institutions that accepts deposits and advance loans.
They also perform several secondary and innovative functions. Non-banking
financial corporations are doing functions akin to that of banks, excepting deposits,
issue of cheques, etc.
As a part of women empowerment, women started occupying the major
sectors of the economy including banks and non-banking financial corporations.
After giving men for their money in the IT industry, women are now storming
another male bastion- the public sector banks. Latest reports tell that over 40% of
the applicants for bank jobs are women.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

In a society filled with conflicting responsibilities and commitments, worklife balance has become a pre-dominant issue in the workplace. Increasing global
competition, renewed interest in personal life or family values, aging workforce are
some of the major factors contributing to the importance of the study on work-life
balance of employees. When compared to other sectors of the economy, the
financial institutions like banks and non-banking financial institutions follow a
well defined structure of working and strict timing. Uneasiness to carry out the
transactions and because of their confidential nature is another feature that makes
the industry different from others. So, for the smooth functioning of this industry, it
is essential that the employees are fully satisfied with the work they do along with
their familial responsibilities.
Work-life balance concerns about improving employee satisfaction and
motivation levels, strengthening the workplace learning and development, etc.
Inspite the rigid structure of the banks and non banking financial corporations, the
number of women employees stepping to these fields is increasing day by day.
They also started pacing along with the man power, and are even seated in the
more crucial industries of finance at present. Moreover, in a society filled with
conflicting responsibilities and commitments, work-life balancing has become a
major issue in the workplace. So it is essential to check whether the women

employees in banks and non-banking financial companies are able to balance their
work along with the familial responsibilities.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

In an economy, the finance industries like banking and non- banking financial
companies(NBFCs) play a leading role in circulating money in the economy. Thus
its importance makes it clear that rolling money in the economy is not an easy task.
These organizations deal with the most confidential transactions related to finance
and since it is the money of the public, the process becomes more rushful . This
confidential nature of transactions and its rushness make the banking and nonbanking institutions job, a stressful one.
Even though the number of women employees in these fields is less when
compared to other industries like IT industry, women are still coming forward to
the field of banking and finance. This may be because of the reputation of being
working in this industry, the monetary payment received or the recognition and
status in the society, etc. This proves women are ready to cope up with the
challenges in this field, with a mutual balance maintained along with their familial
responsibilities.
Thus it is stated that the working women in banks and non-banking financial
institutions are successful in balancing their familial responsibilities along with
their work.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

Following are the objectives of the study:

financial companies are able to perform their work efficiently.
