Volunteer Opportunities in Baldwin

Here in Baldwin, people care about one another, and there are many
active community organizations and services. How can you help?
Baldwin Technology Center

Baldwin Literacy Center

Baldwin Technology Center was established

in order to give residents access to technology.
It provides members of the community with
free e-mail and Internet access. In addition,
it offers computer workshops and provides
technical support.

Baldwin Literacy Center provides literacy services to

local adults. We work to improve students English
reading, writing and speaking skills and offer
courses at various levels. We also run a computer
lab with educational software that helps students
improve their proficiency in English.

Baldwin Technology Center is open to people

of all ages. Popular teen workshops are held
every afternoon. In the evenings, adults are
helped by our highly qualified technical
support team.

We cater to a large variety of students. Sixty percent

of our students are non-native English speakers,
while forty percent are native English speakers who
read and write English at a very basic level.

Baldwin Technology Center is run by the

community for the community. It was
established five years ago by a group of local
businesspeople who wanted to raise the level
of computer literacy in our community. It is
funded solely by donations, and all services
are offered free of charge.
We are always looking for volunteers to
help with administrative tasks and fundraising activities to support our paid staff of
teachers and technicians.
Opening Hours:
Mon. Fri.: 9 a.m. 1 p.m.
5 p.m. 9 p.m.

Sat.: 9 a.m. 9 p.m.

All of our courses are reasonably priced because

they are heavily subsidized by public funding.
Additional courses are provided at other locations,
including the public library and the local high
school, to make it easier for people from all over
the area to attend. The Center is open every day
from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., including weekends. We do
all we can to make our services accessible to all.
We rely heavily on private support to supplement
the public funding we receive, so we are always
on the lookout for ways to cut costs. That is why
volunteers play an extremely important role. They
help in the office and organize fund-raising events;
they teach courses and help in the computer lab.
Today we have over 200 volunteers and only five
full-time staff members.
