2016 Anti-VAWC Essay Writing Competition

OBJECTIVE

To provide students an opportunity to express and expound their ideas on the event theme.
To enable students to understand, participate and appreciate essay writing

PARTICIPANTS

College students from any year level may enter.

BOARD OF JUDGES

Members of the Board of Judges who will convene as a group to determine the winners are
professional as writers, journalists, and literature teachers.

MECHANICS
1. Schools may have multiple entries but each student may submit ONE (1) Entry only.
2. The essay must expound on a theme VAW-Free community starts with me

As a youth and a student, how do you advocate for a violence-free community?

3. All entries must follow the specifications below:


Paper size: Short [Letter Size] bond paper
Font style: Arial (title must be in bold text)
Font size: 12
Spacing: 1.5 space
Alignment: Justified
Margin: 1-inch margin on each side
4. Entries may be written in English or Filipino and must have at least one thousand (1000) words.
5. All Entries must be original and unpublished.
6. To allow anonymity during judging, references to the writers name or school should not be indicated.
7. By participating in this contest, the writer/s grant Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority the right without the
need of payment other than the prize which will be awarded: to use the essay content in its media, including
but not limited to its website, marketing collaterals, or any published material. Any essay selected to be used
in that way would be done so with proper attribution to the writer.

8. Interested schools must submit the following:


a. Accomplished Registration Form.
b. Letter of Endorsement and Certificate of originality of work from School
c. Official Entry to the contest
8. Winners will be announced on November 25, 2016. Cash prizes and certificates will be given to individual
winners, while a certificate will be given to the winning school.

9. The judges decision is final and irrevocable.


10. Organizers reserve the right to nullify and/or cancel any part of the competition if it appears that any
fraud or malfunctions have occurred in any form or whatsoever.
CRITERIA
The judges will be looking for quality essay that contains the following criteria:

ORIGINALITY AND COMMUNICATION (40%)


o Knowledge and depth of understanding with the theme
o Creative approach on the topic
o Appropriateness of words used

CONTENT (40%)
o Development of ideas
o Thought organization
o Consistency

WRITING MECHANICS (20%)


o Clarity of presentation and quality of writing
Correct sentence structure
Correct spelling, capitalization and punctuation
Appropriate paragraphing
Consistent tenses on the essay content
