The Aurora Welcome Center is a 501(c)3 shared space nonprofit with the mission of
strengthen our community through the intentional integration of immigrants and refugees. We
do this by ensuring access to needed services, providing a place of safety and belonging and
engaging immigrants and refugees as agents of positive change in our community. For more

Job Brief
The Aurora Welcome Center is looking for an enthusiastic Journalist or Communications
student to contribute to the publication of successful stories related to immigrants, refugees
and receiving communities that have received services at AWC. The successful candidate will
be a skilled writer with a passion of working with diversity of cultures and capable of informing
and entertaining our readers.

Responsibilities:

Conduct research to uncover interesting and significant stories


Gather, corroborate and interpret data
Interview key persons (teachers, sources, etc.) to obtain more information
Use findings to construct a well-written article
Retain awareness of the readers point of view
Obtain first hand information by being present in happenings
Comply with the moral code of the profession and with AWC confidentiality policies
Establish contacts and sources to use in future research
Contribute to brainstorming for new stories
