GRAMMAR: Modal verbs (may, must/mustnt, should/shouldnt, neednt)
Modal verbs often appear in Reading Part 1, so it is important to understand what they
mean. Modal verbs are also tested in Writing Part 1.

1A) Look at the meanings of the verbs in bold.


It is forbidden to move the computers.
You must not move the computers.
Anyone who takes part in a swimming competition may use these lockers.
Anyone who takes part in a swimming competition is allowed/permitted to use
these lockers.

GRAMMAR: if/unless sentences


In Part 1, you often see sentences with if or unless giving information, advice or
instructions.

1) Match the sentence halves.
