JOINT DELHI COMMISSION

RAJDHANI YA RAJYA?
-Ridhima Gupta

Jali ko aag kehte hain,Bhuji ko rakh kehte hain,

Jinke MLA udhne lage, Usse AAP kehte hain. #UdtaAAP
The previous session might have relatively been a dull one, but todays discussion was groundbreaking. The decibels of the voices rose to a level where it could not be deciphered. And clearly, one could fathom the amplified quality of debate and engrossment of delegates. The closing
speech in the last session magnified certain points. One of the
speakers concluded that two power centres cannot exist simultaneously in one place. This was in respect of the division of power amongst the political parties in Delhi. There was much opposition, after which the committee was wrapped up.
Today, the discussion started with a string of private sessions.
The debate was heated throughout. One even called the Lieutenant Governor a puppet of the Central government, who dominates the work of the Aam Aadi Party in Delhi. Amidst the sea of
deliberation, one of the delegates called Subramanian Swamy
very disturbing. Subramanian, at this point replied humorously , I will counter all the wrong statements made and in case
you find this disturbing, then thats simply my profile! Seems like hes got some answers to
give! Mr. Manohar Parrikar on the other hand, had a lot to say. He stated, AAP party kehti hai
PG ko nikalo kyunki voh hame kaam nahi karne dete, arey bhai aaj tum ho jo thappar aur
joote khake apni izzat bhool gaye, auro ki izzat ka toh khayal karo! Aaj tum referendum
mangoge, kal koi aur mangega, esa thodi chalega. At this point, table taps grew into roars.
Narendra Modi also raised a motion for negotiations with AAP. OOPS! *controversial*.
It is well within Arvind Kejriwals rights to demand a full statehood. There is no need to deny
it. Why should Delhi not get the powers which other states automatically do?
Nevertheless, Kejriwal should know that he will only get a moth-eaten Delhi. This is a big
step and could end up dividing Delhi into two part, one a state and the other, the Capital. Does
this situation really have a valid and implacable solution, or can it be safely said that certain
things are better unsolved?

UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL

THE GAME OF SECURITY COUNCIL
(Ishita Goyal throws light on her love for the TV show, The Game of Thrones)
Arya Stark of Winterfell is someone who pops up in the mind of a diehard Game of thrones
(GoT) fan when a child soldier is talked about. Nevertheless, someone very similar to the traits
of our child soldier was present in the Security Council. With his diligent and active participation in the committee, excellent research and guts to stand and speak
amidst all the experienced delegations representing super powers of the
world; Delegate of Palestine surely stole the title of Arya Stark.
Abiding exactly by the rule, Those who are not family are the enemies
waiting to be destroyed, of the Queen of the Westeros, Cersie Lannister, United States delegation fitted perfectly in her shoes. She formed
her allies in the very beginning of the conference and swore to point her
enemies. Be it the Queens beautiful looks, cunning personality or the
very well-crafted plans to succeed in her missions, the delegation possessed everything. They
tried very meticulously to gather the support of the non-observant members of the council and
deliberated keeping in mind only the relevance of the agenda.
Currently in the show, one does not see someone as strong and intimidating as the mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen. Whose deliberation do you think would resemble her when the agenda established
is situation in the Korean peninsula? Yes, Democratic Republic of
Korea proved to be a strong and tyrannical orator and influenced the
un-moderated as well as the moderated caucus with its countrys
stance. It lifted the curtains from the left out yet intriguing facts on the topic.
Perfect in their research contents, assiduous in their deliberation, adherent to their code and
conduct towards the committee but lacking somewhere in raising their voices during the informal sessions of the committee, Delegation of United Kingdom can be recognized as Samwell
Tarly in the Game of thrones world. They proved that one might not be despotic in his/her approach to divert the committees attention towards them; one may simply use the magic of the
read words and the well-researched mind.
Who is not familiar with the cute Brandon Stark? A poor fellow, heir of Winterfell but unfortunately deprived of his legs plays a major role in the show but is somehow not seen a lot. Tenthgraders of the Australian delegation were allotted country New Zealand, Egypt but eventually
represented Australia. Maybe this incessant change in the country allotment caused them to not
having spoken much. Albeit the confusion, they presented the countrys stance during the Provisional Speakers List (PSL).

UNITED NATIONS COMMITTEE ON PEACEFUL USES OF

OUTER SPACE

Straight Outta Space: An Out of the World Cesspool

Arpita Chowdhury talks about how the space has been converted into a debris graveyard.
Taking yesterdays deliberation forward, the UNCOPUOS started with the elaboration of the
Moon Treaty. The delegates were urged to debate enthusiastically, because, in a council of
about 40 delegates, hardly 7 members were successfully (sometimes dramatically) voicing
out their opinions. The Moon Treaty, like most other treaties, is old. If not amended, then like
all old things, it might just disintegrate and render useless. Handling a crate full of indeterminate terminologies, the delegates, yet again were unsuccessful in formulating acceptable definitions revolving the treaty. So, the motion was abandoned (thankfully), and instead, a motion for cleaning up this gigantic junkyard was taken up.
In the last session, the delegates had
hardly scrapped the vast topic of the
PPWT, and therefore, today the committee focused around the orbits of the
same. PPWT basically takes up the ban
placed upon the weaponisation of outer
space, but it has no clause about the
rooted weapons that have the ability to
destroy satellites. Except the Delegates
of Ukraine and Russia, no other member stood up for the PPWT, pivoting on
the fact that the PPWT was entirely
based upon flaws, which if rendered unsolved, can and will result in an unfavourable outcome.
Debris floating in space is an obstacle that man is yet to solve. Laser-shooting them to alter
their orbital positioning is one solution provided by the UAE. This will not only eliminate
the obstacles in the path of artificial satellites, but will also prevent unwanted crashing down
of junk on our heads (possibility of which is 1 in 80,000, as per The Weekly). We really dont
want the sky to fall.
Outer space is a global community and discreetly the wealth of every commoner. It is important that accountability is maintained for the same so that we might eliminate the need for
a Swachh Antariksh Abhiyaan, because prevention is anyday better than cure.
IF THERE ARE NO BULLETS, THEN THERE WILL BE NO GUNFIRE.
-Delegate of Ukraine

UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY( DISEC)

NINE-DASH: Battle for Claim.

By Shreya Henry

DOES SOUTH CHINA SEA BELONG TO CHINA? DOES CHINA REALLY

HAVE FULL CLAIM OVER IT?
Firstly, opposed to what china claims, the U.S. clearly stating its position on the
conflict will reduce the chance of U.S. and china coming to blows over the
South China Sea.
Directly challenging the legitimacy of Chinas
nine-dash line does carry some risks. In particular, although its likely to give China greater
pause in pushing its claims in the South China
Sea, it also puts the U.S. in a tough spot if China
does decide to ignore Americas warning. That
being said, the Obama administration has taken
adequate measures to minimize this danger by
stating that it would strengthen the U.S. military
presence in Asia, should Beijing cross certain red lines. Thus, while the U.S.
has hardened its position, it has not put itself on a collision course with China.
Chinas claim to 90 percent of the South China Sea is rooted primarily in the
notion that past Chinese rulers have at times maintained sovereignty over the
various islands and reefs in the waters.
Ironically, few states would fare worse than China, should its nine-dash line
principle be upheld, given how often parts of China have been invaded and occupied by outsiders.
All of this is to say that the principle behind Chinas nine-dash line is dangerous for the general maintenance of peace and stability in the global system. The
United States in particular, but all nations including China, would be derelict in
their duties as nation-states to allow it to stand.
