NEWSFLASH
The Aga Khan Academy’s PYP Exhibition 19th to 21st May, 2010

The Junior School celebrated its third PYP Exhibition this week as the Year Six students shared their investigations into how we
share the planet. The exhibition represents a significant event in the life of a PYP student and school. This culminating experience
was an opportunity for the students to demonstrate the attributes of the learner profile that have been nurtured throughout their
engagement with the PYP.

Throughout the exhibition journey which has lasted several months, the students have engaged in a collaborative inquiry process
that involved them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues. Under the guidance of the teachers and
mentors, the students chose an area to investigate in line with the theme of sharing the planet. A significant amount of time,
reflection and collaboration went into deciding on the umbrella central idea and the exhibition title. The main focus of this year’s
exhibition was peace and conflict resolution.

One of the purposes of staging the exhibition is to unite the students, parents, teachers and members of the wider community in a
shared experience that encompasses the essential elements of the PYP. The students sought to express with the community the
significant knowledge they have gained on their chosen inquiries; explaining how they have critically thought about and
expanded their understanding of the issues involved in their investigation. Through their presentations the students’ engagement
with the transdisciplinary skills, PYP attitudes and the AK Strands was evident. This whole learning experience contributed to
students taking meaningful action.
