Executive Director Position Recruitment

APSE, the Association for People Supporting Employment First, is seeking a dynamic manager
and leader to become its next Executive Director. APSE, a 501(c)6 non-profit located in
Rockville, MD, is a 3,000+ national and international membership organization whose mission is
to advance employment and self-sufficiency for all people with disabilities through education
and advocacy. APSE is a stable, 28-year old organization, highly visible within its field and is
healthy and growing. APSE has a 5-person staff and is governed by a 16 member Board of
Directors. APSE currently has an annual budget of approximately $1,400,000, generated via
membership dues and two national events, along with additional revenue sources.

Executive Director Duties


Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for overseeing and
managing the day-to-day operations of APSE, while achieving the strategic direction and goals
established by the Board. Specific duties include:
1. Supervision of all staff and consultants
2. Proper management of the organization from a fiscal and administrative perspective.
3. Ensure sufficient revenue is available to support APSEs programs and services, and identify
opportunities for additional revenue.
4. Oversight of APSEs annual conference and other events.
5. Implement within APSE high quality programs and services.
6. Build and maintain positive relationships with APSE members, and work to continuously
increase membership.
7. Build and maintain positive relationships with APSE chapters (38 currently), and work to
strengthen existing chapters, and create new chapters where APSE does not currently have a
presence.
8. Oversee operations of APSEs Certified Employment Support Professional program.
9. Manage a diverse communication strategy plan for both members and external stakeholders,
including but not limited to newsletters, website, social media, etc.
10. Advocate for APSEs mission and vision within APSE, and externally to other organizations,
government agencies, stakeholders and the general public.
11. Provide oversight of all administrative requirements and business infrastructure.
12. Maintain a strong relationship with the APSE Board of Directors.
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate will bring to this position:
An ability to strongly support and build on APSEs education and advocacy agenda for
expanding employment of all citizens with disabilities within the general workforce.
Strong skills in effectively managing a membership organization from both a fiscal and
operational perspective.
An ability to build and expand the organizations membership base while maintaining a
strong focus on the organizations vision and mission.
The ability to expand the organizations revenues to ensure its long-term fiscal strength.

Possess ideas, energy, and creativity that will enable APSE to continue to move forward and
grow in its efforts to be a strong voice for employment and full inclusion in society for all
citizens with disabilities.

Specific position requirements include:


a. Minimum of five (5) years in organizational management.
b. Sufficient diversity of knowledge and skills to effectively manage the organization including:
personnel management, fiscal management, membership management and growth, advocacy,
communications strategies, and building of partnerships and coalitions.
c. Ability to set priorities, delegate responsibilities, and mentor, motivate, and develop others.
d. Strong ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
e. Strong creative and entrepreneurial spirit that enables the organization to grow and expand its
influence within its vision and mission.
f. Demonstrated understanding of governance issues, including board management and
dynamics.
g. Experience working with a governing board on strategic planning, implementation,
execution, and evaluation.
h. Education: Bachelors Degree (minimum).
i. Either currently living in or willing to relocate to the DC area.
