1.0 INTRODUCTION

Power racing cars usually uses gasoline, diesel fuel, rocket fuel and or any other flammable
material. As for the Balloon Powered Race Car, air pressure is used to zip it across a surface.
Once the balloon is blow, let the car move while the air will shoot out from the straw. The
straws are going to be the axles and the cardboard will be the base. Balloon powered cars
works by applying Newtons Third Law of Motion. As it states that for every action, there is
an equal and opposite reaction. This shows that in every interaction, there is a pair of forces
acting on the two interacting objects. Besides, the size of the forces on the first object equals
the size of the force on the second object. In this case, the action is the air which moves from
the straw and it pushes the air behind the car while reaction is the air behind the car pushing
against the car with the same force which makes the car to move forward. For example, when
a bird flaps its wings, the bird is pushing down on the air and makes the bird to lift it up. It is
just the same as for this car racing. Moreover, an unbalanced force is needed so that the car
can move forward. The force of air which comes out from the balloon must overcome the
forces acting on the car. Therefore, to ensure the car to move, the friction and air resistance
need to be reduce. As the balloon fills with air, potential energy is added. As the air flows
from the balloon, the energy changes from potential energy to kinetic energy. The moving
Balloon Powered Race Car is using kinetic energy as the energy is in motion. The car will
move until there is not enough energy to move it on.
