Air blast cooler/Radiator DK

Luvata designs and manufactures air blast

coolers and radiators for countless applications, ranging from water cooling of large
diesel engines to chillers for air conditioning and waste incinerators. Each cooler is
designed to meet specific cooling capacity
and noise level requirements.
Optimal sturdiness
Specifically designed to meet the demanding
requirements of a diesel or gas motor fluid
cooler, DK components include optimal
sturdiness and specifically designed fixing
points, along with a wide variety of other available options developed to fulfill applications.
Material combinations and corrosion protection are customized to suit the individual
environment of many industrial sites around
the globe.
The basic DK model includes optimized
ventilated axial sections, equipped with
asynchronous rotor fan-motors, already meeting with the strict rules on energy efficiency
set by the ErP 2013/2015 directives. Special
fan-motors with electronic commutation
(EC) control are available to meet customers
specific needs.

The DK cooler can be designed with up to 7 modules.

04

Up to 7 modules
DK offers low noise levels and optimized
energy efficiency, to maximize the
environmental compatibility for this
specific application. DK offers a wide
choice of impeller diameters offered as
standard along with a wide range of
options, including up to 7 modules.
DK cooler benefits:
Pre-designed with simple ordering
product codes
Different sizes within each cooler type
Wide capacity range available
High cooling capacity
Compact design
Low sound level
Different fan speeds
Low energy consumption
Different materials available
Computer program COILS available
for correct sizing
Reduced lifetime cost of operation
Securely covered in a protective
plastic film for delivery

Finned heat exchanger

The standard design of the heat exchanger
is made from copper tubes and aluminium
fins, making it highly resistant to corrosion.
The headers are provided with vent and
drain nipples. The unique design of the
side panel and leg/support brackets
ensure improved sturdiness and stability,
but also provide stable support for the coil
and reduce shaking during operation.
The coolers can be equipped with frequency
drive equipment for continuous control of
fan speed to optimize energy efficiency and
cooling capacity. Upon request models can
be equipped with non-standard coils and
fan motors.

Technical data DK
Sizes: From 2213 x 2715 to 2363 x 14234 mm
Max working pressure:
0.6 MPa
Test pressure:
0.8 MPa
Max working temperature: 110 C
Min working temperature: -20 C
Power range: Up to 3MW at ambient
temp. 35 C and water temp. 70/40 30 C.

Fan unit
1250 mm diameter fan units are equipped
with direct driven axial fans together with
squirrel cage motors. The motor can be
up-graded to insulation class H. The voltage
peak resistance can reach 2200 V.
The design for smaller fan sizes provides
external rotor fan motors as an option.
The motor design and internal corrosion
class are effective against corrosion in high
humidity environments. The standard design
includes tropicalization of the stator and rotor.
Frequency drive technology is available to
connect the motor to the inverter.
Electronically commutated technology
is available for the external rotor motor
(also 1250-size), enabling the motors to be
regulated at different speeds for changing
environmental conditions. This type of
motor allows an extra power consumption
decrease which is positive for the power
plant installation.
The fan is balanced according to ISO1940/1. Motors supplied with protection
class IP 55 and F-insulation are delivered
with open drain holes. The fans are also
available in different speeds depending on
the capacity and the acoustic requirements.

Cooling of Power plants.

Copper tubes and aluminium fins as standard on the DK.

Luvata have large experience of the oil & gas sector.

Casing
The standard casing of the heat exchanger is
made of painted galvanized steel, RAL 9001.
If desired the unit can be painted in other
colors for aesthetic reasons or specialty
coated for corrosion protection.
Air blast coolers for Oil & Gas
Luvata has over 70 years experience designing, manufacturing and delivering heat exchangers and coolers for different industrial
applications, including the Oil & Gas sector.
For this highly regulated market, we lend
our expertise to complete the necessary
quality verfications and corresponding
administrative tasks.

Luvata is certified according to the quality management system ISO 9001:2008 and according to the
environment management system ISO 14001:2004.

Electric cabling & material

Electric cabling inside the casing

The fan motors are cabled from each safety
switch to one common connection box, for an
easy connection to the electric power supply.
The box is made from stainless steel and has
a venting membrane. The cable and electrical
parts are heavy-duty components suitable
for the most demanding industrial use.
Extra cable with terminal blocks for connection to other equipment is available.
Safety switch
Each motor is cabled to a lockable safety
switch for secure service. The switch has a
regular open auxiliary contact. The cooler is
provided with a power take-off (PTO) connection to the connection box.

Fins made of Aluminium as standard on the DK.

Wide variety of material

With our metallurgical expertise and heat
transfer knowledge, we can select the specific
material, such as titanium, stainless steel,
aluminium or copper, best suited for the
corresponding environment and application.
Highly corrosion resistant
Luvata offer as an option increased corrosion protection according to ISO 12944:5:
Category C3 (standard) and C4.

Verification & packing & COILS

Verification
Pressure vessel is designed and tested
to be in compliance with European pressure equipment directive PED/97/23/EC.
ASME Section 8 Division I compliance
can be performed upon customer request. Advanced Finite Element Method
(FEM) analysis is used for structural
verification and risk assessment.

Computer selection program COILS

The air blast coolers/radiators are
available in a wide range of configurations. Luvatas computer program
COILS is used to select and size the
correct cooler for any installation.
The program is reliable and flexible
and generates a print-out of technical
data and a dimensional drawing of
the selected cooler. Some variables
to be considered while sizing and
selecting include:

Packing
The air blast cooler DK is delivered
bolted to a wooden pallet as standard,
but separate wooden boxes or alternative
packing options are also available upon
request. A protective plastic wrapping
covers the fan unit. The cooler is
equipped with lifting lugs and brackets,
to make installation easier.
