Outline

I. Introduction
Philippines is a country where the people are predominantly Christians
specifically the Roman Catholics. The government has the power to
enforce laws even without the consent of the church since the government
and the church are separated here in the Philippines. Because of the
strong influenced made by the church, there are debates and amendments
in the social and political climates of the Philippines. The issue about the
legalization of same sex marriage is one of the biggest problems that a
Christian country like the Philippines, is facing today.
For a Catholic faith, same sex marriage which is a marriage
between two persons with the same biological gender is inexcusable
because based on the bible; a woman is created for a man. The bible says
that in Corinthians 6:9-10, same sex marriage is a form of immorality and
the God will not let this happen to His people. If this issue of same sex
marriage will become legalized, the image as a dominant Christian country
of the Philippines will be destroyed.
Since the Philippines is also suffering from an economic slowdown
and population explosion, the state believes that legalization of same sex
marriage is practical and advantageous. Gender biases and gender
discrimination will be minimized if this same sex marriage will become
legalized.

Same-sex marriage, defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, is the state of

being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional
marriage. It is often times called gay marriage or equal marriage. There are over 18
countries that have legalized same-sex marriage. Some of the countries included
are: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, England, France, Iceland, Netherlands, New Zealand,
Portugal, Scotland, South Africa, and Spain. Philippines, on the other hand, is still on
the verge of endless debates and discussions.
We live in a very judgmental and unequal world. A lot has fought for their
rights and equality. The blacks have already won their fight, as well as women
seeking for equal and fair judgment. Now, the LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and
Transgender) community, which continues to increase, and supporters are battling
for the same cause. In the Philippines, same-sex marriage has been an issue
following the RH bill, which was also a hot topic in the country. There have been
rumors circling the country that the next target of the senate is to legalize same-sex
marriage. There people who support the legalization as well as people who are not
for the legalization. With this being said, I am for the legalization of same-sex
marriage in the Philippines.
The number one proponent in the anti same-sex marriage in the Philippines
is the Catholic Church. Philippines being the bastion of the faith in Asia, the church
strongly opposes gay marriage. Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz, archbishop of
Lingayen, Pangasinan, stated in an interview that same-sex marriage is against the
natural law, the human law and the divine law. He stated that once the Senate

passes the bill they would have to change the constitution as well as the Family
Code of the Philippines, which states that a marriage is for a male and a female.
Marriage is a sacred sacrament that needs to be respected. The church claims that
homosexual ity is immoral and against the will and words of God. As stated in the
Bible, Leviticus 18:22, Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a
woman; that is detestable. This clearly states that homosexual acts are wrong and
hateful. Marriage according to them is union between a man and a woman. It is a
union wherein the male and the female becomes one in mind, soul as well as in
body. And with that union, comes a child, who becomes their sons and daughters;
their main purpose must be to create a family. With this being said, it is evident that
the union that comes along with same-sex marriage cannot bear a child. Thus,
defeating the purpose of marriage. Along with marriage comes family a family is
defined as unit in the society with parents and children. Since they cannot bear a
child, they cannot create a family as well. This also threatens the population, as
there would be a scare that if same-sex marriage would be legalized, a lot of
homosexuals will come out and with this, there would be
