knowledge. The teacher poses a question and asks each student to record his or her thoughts on a
chart that everyone can see. Once everyone has placed his or her mark on the Consensogram, the
teacher and class can analyze the results and determine next steps.

Goals/Aims**
We will use world history to inform students vision and to increase their ability to make that
vision a reality. In order to achieve this goal, we will need supplies, organization and procedures.

General Objectives **
General Objectives can be considered as steps you the teacher wll take throughout the course to
achieve the course aims.

Start the first stage of vocabulary teaching by having students notice the words

Personalize parts of a lesson. The best time to personalize an activity is during the first
five minutes of a lesson. Students are more motivated and engaged that way.

Encourage students to think about the possibilities of a text. Do this by having them
anticipate and predict the next paragraph or page of a read-aloud or story.

To introduce students to the use of mechanical drafting tools, to drafting procedures, and
to acceptable standards of work in the industry.

To introduce students to various forms of graphical representation and to selection of

representations appropriate to specific needs.

To introduce students to time and quality drafting production requirements.

To orient students to the range of drafting methods, topics, and occupations that
characterize the field.

To provide students with opportunities to develop basic drafting skills in respect to sheet
composition, working neatly and accurately, lettering, and line drawing.

the evaluation target.

TEACHING STRATEGIES**
What kind of teaching strategies will be used in the class ?
Example-lectures ?Active learning ?Disscusion ?Project?etc

Arguments regarding the need for reading skills in career and technical education exist,
but far less attention has been given to teaching strategies that can help support vocational
students growth as readers. Workers are increasingly being expected to interpret
and utilize a wide variety of texts and ideas. As a result, reading education in
vocational schools is becoming more important.
Thesis

Effective Activities (cont'd)

Prevoke and Possible Sentences -- given 12-20 words pre-reading to
categorize/incorporate into sentences and then reevaluate their ideas post-reading
Sketch-to-Stretch -- create nonlinguistic representations of text
Effective Activities (cont'd)
Five Important Words -- students record five most important words from text and discuss
reasoning behind their choices in small group discussions
Linear and Nonlinear Reading -- linear involves reading events in sequential, left-to-right
order; nonlinear involves finding jumping off points in text that lead to different ideas
(ex. Facebook)
Six Effective Reading Comprehension Activities
Agree/Disagree Statements -- can be differentiated (teachers providing statements vs.
students generating their own statements)
Discussion Webs -- used to create graphical example of content in text

How to study for this course

Suggestion for effective studying for this course
SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS
For most students this will not be a "difficult" course. However, there will probably be
some students who did well in academic courses where information was most important
and who will be surprised at the relative difficulty of this course where manual skills and
visualization are most important. So do not think that if you are a "B" student you will
probably get a "B" in this course. You might get an "A" with relative ease . . . or a "C"
with difficulty, and still be (and correctly so) a "B student" in your information-heavy,
mainly lecture-type courses. The courses that follow this will be significantly different.
For specific suggestions, check out suggestions for success at our Internet site.
Grading system Description of the grading system of the vocational school
Your recorded grades will be available for your review at any convenient time. Do remember
to keep all drawings and quizzes returned to you so that any discrepancies can be easily and
fairly straightened out. Except in cases of actual error, final grades are permanent. The last day to
withdraw from the course is Friday, October 16.
Final "I" grades will not be permitted except in cases of prolonged, continuous, and excused
absences in the latter half of the course. Under no circumstances will an "I" grade be given when
more than half of the coursework has not been completed. You will be required to meet privately
with the instructor in his office at least one time outside of class time early in the course and to
complete at least two evaluation-type exercises during the course.
