These all houses have their own castles at respective

places. But there is one ruling house which rules from a
kingdom in the south east called Kings Landing. It has
the biggest castle with The Iron Throne. All the houses
are competing to take the throne.
Before the story started, the Targaryens where the
ruling house forging all the kingdoms into one with the
help of their dragons. Slowly the dragons became
extinct.
Prequel:
The Baratheon house had three brothers Robert,
Stannis, Renly. The Stark house had three brothers
(dont know the elder brothers name), Eddard (Ned),
Benjen and a sister Lyanna. These houses were on good
terms and Robert Baratheon was to be betrothed to
Lyanna Stark.

The kingdom was ruled by Aerys II Targaryen . He had

two sons - Rhaegar Targaryen and Viserys Targaren and
a daughter Daenerys Targaryen. Prince Rhaegar was
married to Elia Martell. They had children.
Generally the king has a council to advise him. The
council consists of The Kings Hand (second in
command to the king), the Coinmaster (who sees over
the finances), Advisor and a Grand Maester ( generally
an old man with experience over all sorts of stuff). The
Mad King had Peter Baelish as his coinmaster and Varys
as his Advisor.
The king slowly became a tyrant and sadistic and came
to be known as the Mad King. At one point he burned
Ned Starks father and elder brother alive in the court.
At the same time prince Rhaegar was attracted to
Lyanna Stark, so he abducted her. These events caused
a rebellion against the Targaryens. Robert Baratheon
and Ned Stark teamed with others and revolted on
Kings Landing.
The Lannister house was known for their wealth as well
as their greedy and cunning motives. It was ruled by
Tywin Lannister. He had three children. Two sons Jaime
and Tyrion Lannister and a daughter Cersei Lannister.
The Lannisters were on good terms with the Targaryens
and Jaime Lannister was the kingsguard to the Mad king
(a kingsguard is the main commanding knight who
swears to protect the king with his life).
During the rebellion, the Robert Baratheon kills the
prince in a battle and marches towards the kings
castle. Ned hurried to the tower were her sister was
kept only to find her dying in his arms. Seeing the
rebellion winning over the kingdom, the Lannisters
swiftly switch sides and join the rebellion. They loot the

castle during the rebellion. At this time, seeing all the

chaos Jaime Lannister himself murders the Mad king,
breaking his oath. This earns him the name The
Kingslayer. Tywin Lannister had a soldier called The
Mountain (very big and powerful). Upon Tywins orders
he goes killing all the left over Targaryens. He rapes
and kills Rhaegars wife and his children. Viserys and
Daenerys are small of age and are protected by Varys
(a Targaryen loyalist) and are secretly smuggled out to
Pentos thus saving the Targaryen house from
extinction.
After the rebellion is over, Robert Baratheon takes over
the seven kingdoms as the new king. He appoints Jon
Arryn (House Arryn) as the Kings Hand (he is a friend
of Ned and Robert who helped in the war) as Ned
refuses the position. The remaining council members
are retained as the same. Ned returns to rule his house
in the north (called Winterfell). As Tywin had helped
them in their war, he convinces Robert to marry his
daughter Cerseri and make her the Queen.
