Preliminary Cockpit
Preparation

The purpose of that preparation is to ensure

that all required safety checks are performed


before the application of electrical power on
the ACFT
This flow is performed by the PNF
Items marked by * are the only steps to be
completed during a transit stop (when the
ACFT is not left unattended)

How to perform the instrument Check (1)

Glareshield
Lateral console (O2 mask and OEB)
PF Instrument Panel

It is important to follow that exact order, so the PNF, knowing what to


expect, can follow the PFs briefing; otherwise it becomes a monologue.
Example of glareshield check: QNH 1005, F/D, Constraint, ARC 10Nm,VOR
1/VOR2, Speed dashed, Heading dashed, HDG-V/S, 6000 ft, V/S dashed

How to perform the instrument Check(2)

IAS speed scale full down, 30kts; V1 xxx Blue, V2 xxx Magenta; CLIMB
NAV blue; Flight Director 1 and 2 ON; Initial altitude target xxxxft on QNH
xxxx altimeter;reading xxxft; IVSI 0; Wings level, body attitude minus x,
radio altimeter x ft;Heading xxx, ND hdg xxx, DDRMI hdg xxx, stand-by
compass checked.

Notes:
The instrument check must be performed
aloud on the first flight of the day a crew ins
performing. In case of ACFT change the crew
will have to perform again an instrument
check aloud. At Captain discretion, the
instrument check may be performed silently
during transit flight on the same ACFT.

How to perform the instrument Check(3)

Then ND: GS 0, TAS and WIND dashed, first waypoint xxx degrees, xxx ft,
x nm; VOR/ADF in accordance with FCU selection.

Notes:
The PF should perform the take off briefing at the
GATE
The take off briefing should be relevant, concise
and chronological
The take off briefing should cover the following
items:
ACFT type
ACFT configuration ( Packs?, A/I?, WX Radar?, MEL items)
Taxi Routing
Normal SID

Procedures in case of engine failure (low speed phase below 100kts,

between 100kts and V1, after V1)


Details and procedures of EOSID (Engine out SID=escape route)
WX, Notams at departure airport

Example of T/O briefing:


We are flying an A320 (MTOW 77t, MLW 66t), I will be the PF, it will

be a T/O packs off, A/I off, WX radar on


The taxi routing will be
The normal departure will be a .
For any failure below 100kts I will stop the T/O
Between 100kts and V1, I will abort for engine fire/failure or
controllability problems or, the call will be stop. Once
stopped, parking brake set, I will advise the cabin crew, you will
speak to ATC
After V1, no actions below 400 ft except canceling the master
caution/warning, the escape route is , at the acceleration alt of
stop ECAM, push to level off, acceleration and clean up, at green dot
open climb, MCT and we climb to the MSA of, in case of return we
are above MLW
Wx is CAT I and no Notams are

During the cockpit preparation it will be PNF

duty to compute the speeds for T/O with the


FMD, the results being cross checked by the
PF
During refueling parking brake must be ON and
the ACCU PRESS must be sufficient.
On ACFT equipped with cockpit overhead
refueling control panel, put the MODE SEL PB
to MAN for 10 seconds then AUTO to delatch the
centre tanks pumps (only when refueling was
programmed via cockpit overhead panel)

Do not set Master Switch On before EGT amber
crosses and messages have disappeared on
engine parameters
Engine 2 is started first because it powered the
yellow Hydraulic system which pressurizes the
parking brake
Normal engine parameters in ISA at SL in idle
(CFM engine): N1 19.5%, EGT 390, N2 58.5%,
FF 275 Kg/h (refer to FCOM for IAE engine)

before taxi or at the early stage of the taxi, in

On SD: check brake temperature
