Purpose of the On-Site Visit: Meet with teachers to determine progress in developing their LDC
modules, request feedback on the September 29-30 training, respond to questions and concerns,
and provide support for the LDC Module and LDC Mini-Tasks.

Those Present:
Northwestern Middle School: Amanda Michalak, teacher grades 9-10
HSTW NE Region: Barb Baltrinic and Diana Rogers, LDC Coaches
Rural LDC On-Site Visit Talking Points and Responses:
Progress in Developing LDC Modules and Mini-Tasks:

LDC Module: Container for fruit to keep it fresh and not bruise. The teaching task is completed.
Need to complete the RFP. Experimental Design and product seems to be in good shape.
Standards focus: chemical reactions and endothermic and exothermic reactions, and open and
closed systems. Timetable works well in second grading period.

Teaching Task/RFP: Completed teaching task and RFP.

Texts: Do not have texts yet. Peter has offered to help.

Targeted Students: 40, 9th class, physical science; 15 to 20 days

LDC Mini-Tasks: About half completed and uploaded in LDC Core Tools

Collaboration with Teachers: Very comfortable with the writing. Science TBT meets every other
Thursday for an hour. Laura Kline is the only science teacher at NWHS who is not doing an LDC
module. Laura may assist Jackie with her LDC module. Our group is very good at assisting in
think tank approach.

Feedback on September 29-30 training:

I liked the training. It was informative with time to work. Good pacing and modeling. I liked
having he engineer. I like the different thinking style. I did not have an opinion about the grade
bands. For me it was just Clayton and I, therefore it was not as valuable. For the bio people,
they had a lot of people to bounce ideas with for their module. One teacher was very rude and
distracting for everyone.

Questions:

I am wondering if I
have thought of
everything I need to
do and complete?

I would like to have

a checklist for the
complete LDC
Module. Is that
available?

Concerns/Comments:

We have to do 2 PBL this year. I have not asked the principal to approve LDC module
for my 2 PBLS. It is not an issue for me, but I think he will.
Oct 14 I would like to have a checklist of all the things and tasks. I want to make a
packet with everything I should have together in one place.
