LDC Module: Frustrated, but hopefully back on track. I hope to come to the training on Friday,
October 14 with Teaching Task and RFP draft to receive feedback. I collaborated with Kelly on
some of the skills. Standards focus: water cycle how it will affect every part of the cycle;
pollutions of the atmosphere, scientific inquiry.
Teaching Task/RFP: Not completed. Plan to bring a draft on Oct 14.
Texts: Will need to continue looking for texts
Targeted Students: 112, 7th grade students (second grading period); estimate 14 days
LDC Mini-Tasks: Observed today her 7th grade science class, one of the classes she will
engaging in her LDC module. She is having student responding to a prompt for their science fair
report. She is scaffolding the lesson and asking student to think like a scientist by referring to the
chart in the room with the scientific process. For bell work, she had them answering questions
on how many supporting details do you need in each body paragraph. She is also having them
reflect by asking them: Why is it important to have supporting details when writing? She scaffold
and demonstrated literacy strategies for writing. She moved from student to student providing
extra help through multiple resources and also established peer mentoring.
Collaboration with Teachers: "I would appreciate guidance with the LDC module writing. I will
eventually involve our 7th grade team with the LDC module process. We share common writing
and project rubrics."

Feedback on September 29-30 training:

When I walked out Thursday, I had one idea. Then on Friday, I had to change topics. Then at the
end of the day, I was at ground zero. I talked with Kelly and Dorothy and we came up with
Human Impacts on the Environment. The students are going to simulate an animal with an oil
spill. What is the most cost effective way to remove the oil: sawdust, etc. I was fortunate that the
mini-task to fit the new project.

Questions:

Does this new

project idea match
the expectations so
that it is final on Oct
14.

What does a Not

Yet and Meet
Expectations
Design Report look
like?

What would a
student product for
oil spills looks like?

Concerns/Comments:

Frustrated on how much instruction I can give student to write the science fair report. I
am not seeing the results I want and am feeling that I cant write for them.
I am grateful for the designated time. Would like a full day sub on Nov 9.
Two students science project due about the same time. Science fair must be registered
by February. I want them to present before Christmas break.
LDC Core Tools is not how I think. I need to look at the outcome and work backwards
and then I think I will better understand the LDC Core Tools approach.
I have to complete 2 PBLs this year. Rural LDC modules have been accepted and
approved by my principal for my PBLs expectations.
