State of the College

SUNY Plattsburgh Alumni,

Good evening. (PAUSE) Thank you for coming out today. Before I begin, I would like everyone
to look around and say hi to those close to you. (PAUSE) (CLAP)

You help improve SUNY Plattsburgh through your contributions, your representation of the
college, as well as your connections to present and future students. Just as you improve SUNY
Plattsburgh, it is my pleasure to report such great improvement within this campus. With your
help, many students have been given an opportunity to shine bright and become inspirational
individuals.

Alumni who contribute to the school help our students reach their goals. Through higher
education, students are able to bring unique and diverse talents to make our campus family an
interactive and open one.

Many students go above and beyond to make a difference on and off campus. Their involvement
helps the school to work as a team to set pathways for our future doctors, teachers and
entrepreneurs. (PAUSE)

Last fall, a Cardinal Points illustrator released an image of a black graduate returning to a
dysfunctional neighborhood, inferring, that is the way minority students live. (PAUSE)

We have worked hard to fix the problem, but the major things that need fixing are the ways we
express our feelings toward race, as well as building and educating our students on our history.

Every year we have Diversity Week. This time around, we challenge students to come out to
not just speak and discuss problems in schools but to actively participate in being part of the
solution.

Every students voice should be heard.

There are a large number of students who participate in the Learning Center tutoring sessions, as
well as go to events hosted by the Career Development Center.

The Career Development Center helps students build their resumes, find internships and build
character, as well as set a professional outlook. (PAUSE)

SUNY Plattsburgh has sororities and fraternities on campus help to build young men and women
to strive for bigger outcomes, give back to the community and set a great example for future
students who look forward to joining Greek Life.

You have professors who encourage their students, as well as talk to them on a personal level to
guide them through their college career so that they do not give up on their future goals or
careers.

They help them to understand that college is the right place to make mistakes. Students are
allowed to make mistakes until they get it right because, in the real world, once they reach their
career, their first mistake might be their last chance.

Your leadership and support to the college helps students not only focus on what they learn here
on campus, but also help them think further about the next step.

(PAUSE) In conclusion, we greatly appreciate all the help given to encourage our students and
hope that with more support we can make a difference in future upcoming student lives. (CLAP)
