Duration

Context for learning:

Does

this build on prior experiences/interests of the children?

Previous knowledge of hockey pokey
Some knowledge of other poems and rhymes
Interested in dinosaurs

What is the focus? About what am I being intentional? Will I observe/record information?
Develop literacy capabilities
Enhance gross motor
Enhance speech and speech patterns
Observe the children abilities to repeat and join in poem
Observe children abilities to learn the dino pokey
Guiding Behaviour Consider what you need to put in place to support children:
Remind all students about classroom manners e.g. sitting on bottoms with legs crossed so peers can see,
raising hands to answer questions and waiting for peers to finish their turn at speaking. Encourage those who
may need extra help or reminding of classroom manners, behaviour expectations. Remind student to use
looking eyes at speaker to help to remain focused on the activity. During dance remind children to be mindful
of others around them when doing the action to the song.

Resources:
Five enormous dinosaurs poem
Dino pokey song
Speaker and hokey pokey song without words from youtube
Phone linked with speaker for song
Differentiation strategies: Need to consider children S and D who may need extra support during the

introduction of the lesson. This may include D sitting close to the front of the group to help him to remain
focused and to be less distracted by peers. To encourage S to use her looking eyes at the speaker (me) to
help her to maintain focus. Have children hold hands to help form a circle and take two steps back, this will
help will all capabilities to form a circle. Say poem slowly two to three time to help carter for all childrens
abilities, teach actions to the dino pokey separately from learning song as to not to overwhelm the children.
You will use a lesson plan for group times (music, language, story, beginning a session etc). You need to think
though how you will engage with the children, the language you will use, the questions you might ask etc.

Introduction:
Introducing the
topic and settling
children

After Morning Tea the students know that they need to wash their
hands and choose a book for story time while they wait for the
morning meeting. Ringing of a bell signals this.

I will ring the bell for morning meeting and the students will finish
their story and sit in down in the group in front of the teachers chair.
This is when I will begin my lesson.

I will settle the student by asking them to stretch their arms in the air,
wiggle them and roll them down into their laps. This will help them to
engage the students and engage their listening capabilities.
Explain to children that they are going to learn a new poem and the
dino pokey
Say title of the poem and ask the children to hold up five fingers and
give them a wiggle.
Slowly say the poem
Ask children to try and join in and slowly say poem again. Repeat
poem again
Ask children if they enjoyed the poem, allow time for answers.
Ask children to stand up and form a circle by holding hands, ask to
take two steps back
Teach the children the new words to the dino pokey ( only some word
have been changed and most children should be familiar to the song)

Body:

Conclusion:

Teach actions to the dino pokey while singing the words

With music, sing the dino pokey and do the actions
Repeat the dino pokey

Once last dance was complete ask the children to sit down in their
circle
Ask the children what they enjoyed most.
Give all children praise for their efforts
Direct children to next activity
