COMMUNICATION SKILLS - I
Since second language learners need communicative competence more than the grammatical
competence, an advanced conversation text based on dialogues covering a wide range of everyday
situations, from buying groceries to flying in an aeroplane, and using vocabulary of everyday speech
and the expressions of the idiomatic constructions, should be preferred in the target language
c 1 a s s t ° ° m
Hence the syllabus for the students of MA Urdu for the improvement of their communication skills in
English language includes the following dialogue based set of different real life situations:
‘Opening a Bank Account

COMMUNICATION SKILLS -11
‘A thorough coverage of the subject of English language with adequate practice will fully equip
and prepare the students of the present discipline to take a crack at the competitive examinations
today. The ability to communicate in the target language depends upon the degree of maturity of
comprehension skills in the target language. Since comprehension much depends upon sub-skills of
grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, synonyms, antonyms, idioms and comprehension passages,
the present course covers these all so as the learners may get themselves quite at ease when
responding to answers in competitive examinations they face to get jobs.
The present course focuses on practice in the following areas of target language:
1 _ Sentence Correction (Task to detect the errors)
2 Vocabulary (With different Sub-Sections)
3 Comprehension
