Genesis
Last week we looked at the judgement of the world by water and why YHVH had
to step in to save His Creation. This week the Torah Portion starts with the
words Lech Lecha that means get yourself out, that links to last weeks
message to get out of the System called Babylon, that is like a cancer that
infiltrated the Kingdom of YHVH. This study will reveal where you should go and
it will be up to you to act and respond to His calling. In this Torah Portion, YHVH
spends more time discussing Abrahams life, than all the previous chapters
starting from Genesis. It seems like YHVH speeded things up to get to Abraham
and then slowed down to reveal the details of Abrahams life. This shows us that
Abrahams life is very significant beneficial for us to study.
Abram was born and grew up in a pagan culture and was accustom to
worship pagan gods. We are born in a fallen world amongst people that
do not serve YHVH. We have the same chance of being called out from
this fallen Godless environment, just like Abram.
YHVH chose Abram; it was not Abrams idea to follow YHVH, but YHVH
saw potential in him and called him out of his old ways. Abram accepted
and followed YHVH in faith to a land of promise. YHVH is calling all of
humanity out from their Godless or pagan ways, all they must do is to
accept the call and follow.
YHVH released a blessing over Abram prior to him following YHVH. This
shows that YHVH can bless people just because of His goodness, not
because of their doing. This kind of blessing has to do with the blessing
of sonship, becoming part of the Household of YHVH. This is not based
on your performance but based on YHVHs goodness and mercy.
Abraham received a blessing and a promise, and he actually made it to
the Promised Land. His life is a prophetic picture because he carried the
promise that was the nation of Israel, in his seed as he travelled to the
Promised Land. We as believers in Messiah follow our father of faith
1
(Abraham) and like him, will also reach the Promised Land as promised
to him and his seed.
Abram was the father of Fear before he became the father of Faith. Life
will present various tests in order to train you up so that your natural
tendency to fear, will be converted to faith, as you overcome the trials
and start to walk in victory applying YHVH;s Word.
Ismael was born out of the flesh and not out of faith this mistake Abram
made became one of Israels greatest enemies, even to this day. The
consequences of the mistakes you make because of your fear, not acting
in faith, will become a future challenge to fix that part of you that caused
the mistake in the first place.
Abrams Fear
Gen 12:10-13 There was a famine in the land. Abram
went to Egypt to stay a while because the famine was
severe. 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, Abram
said to his wife Sarai, I know that youre a beautiful
woman. 12 When the Egyptians see you, theyll say, This
is his wife! Then theyll kill me but let you live. 13 Please
say that youre my sister. Then everything will be
alright for me, and because of you I will live.
Abram travelled with Sarai his wife, to Egypt because of the famine in Canaan.
The situation here is one of the tests Abram received to train him us in
becoming a man of faith. The test was that YHVH promised him the Land of
Promise, and when Abram got there, he faced a famine and was forced to go to
Egypt where there was plenty. This is the same pattern that repeated in the lives
of Jacob and his 11 sons, who were forced to go to Egypt to buy food in order to
survive the famine in the land.
Personal Application: Have you ever received a promise from YHVH and
when you think it is about to happen, everything changes and you face the
opposite of what was promised? This is the same test Abram and Jacob
faced, patiently following YHVH, expecting the promise to come true in their
lives. The issue is that it is all about timing. You have to be ready to receive
the blessing, and YHVH has to do a work in you before you are able to accept
the blessing and fulfil your destiny successfully. Whenever you receive a
promise, be mindful of the fact that you will first receive the opposite in order
to stretch you so that you will be large enough to contain the blessing. This
stretching process will be through various tests that are related to your
blessing. If you received the promise that you will be fanatically strong to fund
the work of the Kingdom, then YHVH will send financial tests in the form of
financial difficulties and instability so that you can learn to trust Him. The
purpose of these tests are not to torture you, but to test you.
Thereafter, Abram faced the second test; he was confronted by the Egyptians
because of his beautiful wife and told them she was his sister. Abram feared
that they would kill him and told a lie in order to save his own life. He definitely
failed this test and will face another challenge in the future to help him to change
his fear into faith.
The Kings actions, taking Abrams wife triggered a curse to come upon him,
even if it was because of Abrams doing. This seems to be unfair to us since the
King was deceived.
Spiritual Insight: There are two different words used for curse used in the
blessing in found in Gen 12:3. The first word arar rra is used where
YHVH will curse the person. Arar means; to curse, to lay under a curse, to
become a curse. Arar is first used in Gen 3:14 where YHVH cursed the
Serpent and is the most severe kind of curse that someone can receive.
The second word for curse is qalal llq that means to make light, to make
small or despise someone. This is the word that describes a curse that
someone will bring upon Abram, making him small and insignificant, like
humiliating him. The first type of curse, arar, is definitely more severe than
the second type of curse qalal. This gives us the understanding that the
smaller curse will trigger the larger curse, in Abrams case, the act of the King
against Abram (qalal) released a major curse (arar) that came upon the King.
This can be explained by a picture where a large stone that is held up by a
small support, and removing the support, (humiliating someone), will make
the large stone or curse, that have the potential to crush the one who
removed it. This explains the words of Yshua, warning us not to speak
against a fellow believer (qalal), because this action will have major
consequences (arar).
Matt 5:22 But I say unto you, that whosoever is
angry with his brother without a cause shall be in
danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say
to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the
council; but whosoever shall say, You fool, shall
be in danger of hell fire.
The promise YHVH gave Abram came true in a literal
sense, where YHVH promised to curse those who curse
Abram as a means to protect His people.
Warning: One thing is for sure; you do not speak bad or evil
against Israel, let alone cursing or despising them because
they are the seed of Abraham. This is relevant to us as
believers in Messiah as well, because we are from the Seed
of Abraham, Who is Messiah, and that makes us part of
Israel. The promise of the curse is like a shield and a
protection mechanism that YHVH put in place to preserve
and protect his people. This is why we should not speak against fellow
believers, even if they do wrong (like Abram), because you bring a curse with
severe consequences upon yourself. If you see a brother, sister or leader do
something wrong, cover their nakedness in love, as we learned last week,
and rather pray for them than to speak against them or belittle them. If you
have committed this sin, repent and ask forgiveness and ask YHVH to
remove the curse you have brought upon yourself.
10 Then
The first two letters dc Samech-Dalet, is the word sod, that means, stocks or
shackles that are normally found on the ankles of a slave or prisoner. Combining
the last two letters ,d Dalet-Mem, makes the word dam, that means blood,
that is associated with death, when blood leaves the body. This gives us the
insight that Sodom represents enslavement that leads to death.
Sodoms name also reflects its destiny, meaning to scorch
and burning This is exactly what happened with Sodom, in
the end, it was judged by fire, destroying those who were
enslaved and bound inside the city, resulted in their deaths.
This is a prophetic warning to those enslaved in the Garen of
Sodom, to turn away from their wicked ways because Yshua
is coming as the judge Who will destroy the wicked by fire.
Evil is the word Rah ir Resh Ayen, r Resh means back of the head,
and the head is turned to the left, meaning the physical. Resh means human
reasoning as well and mans logic is always opposing to YHVHs thinking or
Word. Ayen i means eye, and we saw that it was the lust of the eye that
attracts people towards fleshly desires that result in them being led by the flesh,
and not by faith.
Sodom is filled with fleshly people who follow their fleshly desires, led by the lust
of the eye and they feed on the trees of sin planted in the Garden of Sodom
that leads to sin, bondage and death.
Q What will set you free from this bondage of Sin and Death?
Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the YHVH Elohim is upon me, Because YHVH has
anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind
up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to
prisoners;
Yshua read this verse in the Synagogue after being tempted in the Wilderness
for 40 days, declaring He is the Messiah, and only through Him can the captives
be set free from their sin and bondage. His Blood paid for the death penalty that
was hanging over each and everyones head. His Word and His
Commandments reveals the Will of the Father to us and His Spirit quickens our
spiritual soul (nashamah) so that we have a restored spiritual connection with
Him, walking in a new nature.
Spiritual Insight: His Blood is found in the Passover symbolism where His
Blood will cause the Angel of Death to Pass you Over. Accepting His and
His Spirit is symbolised by the Feast of Shavuot or Pentecost, where YHVHs
Commandments were received at Sinai, His Commandments being engraved
on stone. The word engraved also means freedom; a way to be liberated
from sin and bondage. His Spirit was received on the same Feast where the
same Commandments are engraved on your heart to set you free from
bondage and death. This means that YHVH gave us three things that will set
us free, all three associated with the Work of Messiah; His Blood, His
Commandments and His Spirit. You need all three to be entirely set free; His
blood gets you in the Kingdom, His Word / Commandments is His Character
and trains you up in Holiness.
His Spirit quickens your soul, Who gives you the desire and passion for
wanting to follow Him, and have a relationship with Him. If you miss only one
of these three, then you are still in bondage.
;lm that means King, and Tzadik qdo that means Righteous.
9
This shows the two offices of Messiah; King (Prince of Peace) and Priest
(Righteous One). To represent Elohim in His fullness, He needs to be
Messenger (Word), Judge and King. Comparing Melchizedeks attributes with
that of Yshua; he still needs to become the Judge, Who will judge the world by
the standard of His Word. He also needs to become the Messenger or the sent
one, the Word Who needs to rectify the corrupted Word of YHVH and the one
Who have to face death, because of the Covenant He made with humanity
through Abraham.
Melchizedek was the High Priest of YHVH, the King of Peace who met with
Abraham to eat bread and drink wine, which is the sign of the Blood Covenant of
Messiah, representing Salvation. This is, if you like, a peek into the future
where Melchizedek met with Abraham and ate the Covenant meal with Him
prophetically. Melchizedek represents the Covenant of Peace that YHVH ate
with Abram that will be established after the Work of the Messiah is complete,
fulfilling all three of His offices as Elohim, as symbolised through the Seven
Festivals. This Covenant of Peace extends to everyone who partakes in the
Bread of Life and the wine or Blood that brings Life so that they can
experience YHVHs peace and eternal life.
10
After these words, YHVH promised Abram an offspring that will become a great
nation as well as a land, that his offspring will inherit.
The next promise to Abram was a King, the Seed (Singular) Who will come
through his seed (plural), Who will rule over this great nation. In other words,
YHVH gave Abram a people, a Land and a King, all that is still required is the
Government for this new Kingdom that is promised to Abraham. This
Government will be given through Moses later on, in the form of the Torah by
which this King will rule the people.
Gen 15:9-10, 17-18 So He said to him, Bring
Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old
female goat, a three-year-old ram, a
turtledove, and a young pigeon. 10 Then he
brought all these to Him and cut them in two,
down the middle, and placed each piece
opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds
in two. 17 And it came to pass, when the sun
went down and it was dark, that behold, there
appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch
that passed between those pieces. 18 On the
same day YHVH made a covenant with Abram.
In ancient times, when a blood Covenant was made they killed animals by
splitting them in half, putting the pieces opposite each other, and then the
people entering into a covenant, walked in between these split pieces in the
form of a figure-eight.
If either of them broke any of the conditions of this Covenant, that person had to
die and end up like the animals used to cut this Covenant. It was a very serious
matter, a matter of life and death, keeping your side of the deal. YHVH entered
into a Blood Covenant with Abram while he was asleep, indicating that He made
the Covenant with Himself, on behalf of Abram. This means that if any of the two
participants, YHVH or Abram (and his seed) broke any of the conditions of this
Covenant, then YHVH must die. This is exactly what happened, Abrams seed
broke the Covenant, and YHVH had to keep His Word by sending Yshua to die
for the sins of man, all those who became part of Israel.
The important point to note here is that this Covenant only applies to Abrahams
seed, that is Israel, and you must be grafted into Israel to enter into, and
benefit from this Covenant.
Prophetic Insight: Yshua died for the whole world, and that means that the
invitation is open for anybody in the world to become part of Israel (not
become Jewish or part of Judah only), to access this Covenant of Grace.
Adam sinned, and Adams seed (seed of the woman) have the chance to be
restored through this Covenant YHVH made with Abram. You are not chosen
or special that made you a believer, all are chosen, but only a few acts on the
invitation and choose YHVH.
11
What you will notice is that the Covenant pages represent the requirements for
the Kingdom; there must be a Land, people living in the Land under the rule of a
King. The King rules by the authority of His Government and those who entered
in and submitted to this King, they will inherit eternal life and live with Him in His
peace and rest. Those who reject His Covenant will only see what Noahs
Covenant represents; the final judgement and cleaning of the world so that
YHVHs Kingdom can be established on the earth.
When Moses was called to lead Israel out of Egypt, he asked YHVH to reveal
his Name. The primary purpose behind this is, not to know how to pronounce
His Name, but rather know Who He is, showing His Character. What we see in
the Scripture, time and time again, is that YHVH changes the names of some of
His people. Have you ever wondered why YHVH changed someones name?
YHVH generally changes someones name after He called them, and that
means that their character and destiny will be changed accordingly.
13
YHVH stipulated in His Word that our names will be changed as well, each
receiving a new name when we enter His Kingdom after the Second Coming.
Abrams name contains the elements of YHVHs Plan for his life. Abram ,rba
means high father and is a homophone of the word Abrim ,yrbi that
means regions beyond. When you remove the mem , it makes up the word
ibree yrbi that means one from beyond, that is the basis of the word
Hebrew, where it confirms in Gen 14:13 that Abram was the first Hebrew. We
see from Abrams name that the plan YHVH had for him, built into his name, all
he had to do was to act on it to make it a reality in his life.
Personal Application: In the same way as with Abram, YHVH has a plan for
your life, and it can become your destiny if you adhere to His Word so that He
can reveal the details to you through a relationship with Him. You cannot sit
on your hands and think that this plan will happen automatically, no, you have
to actively pursue YHVH and walk in the truth He reveals to you in His Word
in order to manifest His plan and destiny in your life.
Later on on YHVH changed Abram's "high father" name to Abraham, "father of
a multitude" (Genesis 17:5) and his wife's name from Sarai yrs, my
princess, to Sarah, hrs mother of nations (Genesis 17:15). This name
change was done by adding a Hey h to create Abraham ,hrba Hey h
means light and revelation as well as breath because of the sound it makes.
Spiritual Insight: These are attributes of YHVHs Spirit because through His
Spirit He reveals the Truth (light) to his people and restores the breath of life
(nashamah) back to man. YHVH similarly changed Sarais name to Sarah by
adding a Hey as well, indicating that he works with the total human, the
combination of husband and wife to fulfil His plan on the earth.
It is good if only the husband or the wife is anointed
by YHVH but it is very powerful if both the husband
and the wife are anointed, and work as a unity
within the Kingdom of YHVH. Abraham would not
have achieved what he has done without the
support and anointing of his wife, Sarah. This
emphasises the fact that YHVH want both the
husband and the wife be in unity regarding their
faith as well as both being anointed by YHVH,
complimenting each other, working as a team in
the Kingdom.
