Last week we looked at the judgement of the world by water and why YHVH had
to step in to save His Creation. This week the Torah Portion starts with the
words Lech Lecha that means get yourself out, that links to last weeks
message to get out of the System called Babylon, that is like a cancer that
infiltrated the Kingdom of YHVH. This study will reveal where you should go and
it will be up to you to act and respond to His calling. In this Torah Portion, YHVH
spends more time discussing Abrahams life, than all the previous chapters
starting from Genesis. It seems like YHVH speeded things up to get to Abraham
and then slowed down to reveal the details of Abrahams life. This shows us that
Abrahams life is very significant beneficial for us to study.

Quick Summary of Abrahams life in this Torah Portion:

Abram was born and grew up in a pagan culture and was accustom to
worship pagan gods. We are born in a fallen world amongst people that
do not serve YHVH. We have the same chance of being called out from
this fallen Godless environment, just like Abram.
YHVH chose Abram; it was not Abrams idea to follow YHVH, but YHVH
saw potential in him and called him out of his old ways. Abram accepted
and followed YHVH in faith to a land of promise. YHVH is calling all of
humanity out from their Godless or pagan ways, all they must do is to
accept the call and follow.
YHVH released a blessing over Abram prior to him following YHVH. This
shows that YHVH can bless people just because of His goodness, not
because of their doing. This kind of blessing has to do with the blessing
of sonship, becoming part of the Household of YHVH. This is not based
on your performance but based on YHVHs goodness and mercy.
Abraham received a blessing and a promise, and he actually made it to
the Promised Land. His life is a prophetic picture because he carried the
promise that was the nation of Israel, in his seed as he travelled to the
Promised Land. We as believers in Messiah follow our father of faith
1

(Abraham) and like him, will also reach the Promised Land as promised
to him and his seed.
Abram was the father of Fear before he became the father of Faith. Life
will present various tests in order to train you up so that your natural
tendency to fear, will be converted to faith, as you overcome the trials
and start to walk in victory applying YHVH;s Word.
Ismael was born out of the flesh and not out of faith this mistake Abram
made became one of Israels greatest enemies, even to this day. The
consequences of the mistakes you make because of your fear, not acting
in faith, will become a future challenge to fix that part of you that caused
the mistake in the first place.

Abrams Fear
Gen 12:10-13 There was a famine in the land. Abram
went to Egypt to stay a while because the famine was
severe. 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, Abram
said to his wife Sarai, I know that youre a beautiful
woman. 12 When the Egyptians see you, theyll say, This
is his wife! Then theyll kill me but let you live. 13 Please
say that youre my sister. Then everything will be
alright for me, and because of you I will live.
Abram travelled with Sarai his wife, to Egypt because of the famine in Canaan.
The situation here is one of the tests Abram received to train him us in
becoming a man of faith. The test was that YHVH promised him the Land of
Promise, and when Abram got there, he faced a famine and was forced to go to
Egypt where there was plenty. This is the same pattern that repeated in the lives
of Jacob and his 11 sons, who were forced to go to Egypt to buy food in order to
survive the famine in the land.
Personal Application: Have you ever received a promise from YHVH and
when you think it is about to happen, everything changes and you face the
opposite of what was promised? This is the same test Abram and Jacob
faced, patiently following YHVH, expecting the promise to come true in their
lives. The issue is that it is all about timing. You have to be ready to receive
the blessing, and YHVH has to do a work in you before you are able to accept
the blessing and fulfil your destiny successfully. Whenever you receive a
promise, be mindful of the fact that you will first receive the opposite in order
to stretch you so that you will be large enough to contain the blessing. This
stretching process will be through various tests that are related to your
blessing. If you received the promise that you will be fanatically strong to fund
the work of the Kingdom, then YHVH will send financial tests in the form of
financial difficulties and instability so that you can learn to trust Him. The
purpose of these tests are not to torture you, but to test you.
Thereafter, Abram faced the second test; he was confronted by the Egyptians
because of his beautiful wife and told them she was his sister. Abram feared
that they would kill him and told a lie in order to save his own life. He definitely
failed this test and will face another challenge in the future to help him to change
his fear into faith.

Spiritual Insight: If Abram remembered YHVHs

promise he would have realised that he had to be alive
to receive this promise and that they will definitely not kill
him. Reminding yourself again what YHVH promised in
the Word will pull you through and will give you the
breakthrough over fear, transforming it into faith and
pass the test. This will make you one step closer to
receiving the promise YHVH gave you, as you are
growing in faith and in a relationship with Him.
Hebrew Word Picture: The tests Abram went through was to make him
righteous, tsaddik spelt qdo , tsaddik dalet qof, and Holy,
kodesh, spelt sdq. We see that both these words have a qof, q
and one of the meanings for the letter qof is a monkey with its hand
on its head and a long tail hanging down. The primary attribute of a
monkey is that it excels in imitation, that is where we get the
expression; monkey see monkey do. A righteous person is
supposed to imitate YHVH to be transformed in His likeness. In the
same time, do not think that you are a monkey, acting like an animal.
The monkey is symbolic of our fleshiness or our nephesh (animal
soul). When we remove the qof form the word tsaddik, it makes up the word
tsad that means side, that is the basis for the word latsud, that means to
entrap. A righteous person has learned to contain his monkey or flesh,
entrapping and containing it through his nashamah or spiritual soul. A holy
person is kadosh sdq and is you rearrange the letters it gives us q-sd
dash qof, where dash means trample, a holy person tramples his monkey
or keeps his flesh underfoot.

Small Curses Activate Larger

Curses
Gen 12:15-17 The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and
commended her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken
to Pharaohs house.16 He treated Abram well for her
sake. He had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and
female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
17 But YHVH plagued Pharaoh and his house with great
plagues because of Sarai, Abrams wife.
The King took Sarai into his house to become his wife. Abram received physical
blessings and the King received a plague in return. This seems puzzling, after
all, the King was the victim of Abram and Sarais deceit.
Q - Why did the King suffer for the sin Abram committed?
Gen 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse (arar)
him who curses (qalel) you; And in you all the families of the earth
shall be blessed.
YHVH blessed Abram and part that blessing was that those who bless Abram
will be blessed and those who curse him, will be cursed.
3

The Kings actions, taking Abrams wife triggered a curse to come upon him,
even if it was because of Abrams doing. This seems to be unfair to us since the
King was deceived.
Spiritual Insight: There are two different words used for curse used in the
blessing in found in Gen 12:3. The first word arar rra is used where
YHVH will curse the person. Arar means; to curse, to lay under a curse, to
become a curse. Arar is first used in Gen 3:14 where YHVH cursed the
Serpent and is the most severe kind of curse that someone can receive.
The second word for curse is qalal llq that means to make light, to make
small or despise someone. This is the word that describes a curse that
someone will bring upon Abram, making him small and insignificant, like
humiliating him. The first type of curse, arar, is definitely more severe than
the second type of curse qalal. This gives us the understanding that the
smaller curse will trigger the larger curse, in Abrams case, the act of the King
against Abram (qalal) released a major curse (arar) that came upon the King.
This can be explained by a picture where a large stone that is held up by a
small support, and removing the support, (humiliating someone), will make
the large stone or curse, that have the potential to crush the one who
removed it. This explains the words of Yshua, warning us not to speak
against a fellow believer (qalal), because this action will have major
consequences (arar).
Matt 5:22 But I say unto you, that whosoever is
angry with his brother without a cause shall be in
danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say
to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the
council; but whosoever shall say, You fool, shall
be in danger of hell fire.
The promise YHVH gave Abram came true in a literal
sense, where YHVH promised to curse those who curse
Abram as a means to protect His people.

The word Raca is original to

the Greek manuscript;
however, it is not a Greek
word. The most common view
is that it is a reference to the
Aramaic word reka, which
literally means "empty one",
but probably meant "empty
headed," or "foolish."

Warning: One thing is for sure; you do not speak bad or evil
against Israel, let alone cursing or despising them because
they are the seed of Abraham. This is relevant to us as
believers in Messiah as well, because we are from the Seed
of Abraham, Who is Messiah, and that makes us part of
Israel. The promise of the curse is like a shield and a
protection mechanism that YHVH put in place to preserve
and protect his people. This is why we should not speak against fellow
believers, even if they do wrong (like Abram), because you bring a curse with
severe consequences upon yourself. If you see a brother, sister or leader do
something wrong, cover their nakedness in love, as we learned last week,
and rather pray for them than to speak against them or belittle them. If you
have committed this sin, repent and ask forgiveness and ask YHVH to
remove the curse you have brought upon yourself.

The Consequences of Abrams Sin

The third test Abram faced came because of the second test he failed; he
received gifts in exchange for Sarai from the King when he lied, and one of
these gifts was the maidservant Hagar, who he later on impregnate and a son
was born unto him, Ismael, who became one of the greatest enemies of Israel.
The third test he failed was to make YHVHs promise come to pass through a
fleshly plan.
YHVH promised Abram that he would become a great nation, but Sarah was
barren. Sarah convinced Abraham to take Hagar as wife so that this promise will
realise, and Abraham agreed. Big mistake! Abraham acted in the flesh and not
out of faith, and brought severe consequences upon himself and his generations
to come.
That was not the only consequences Abraham faced; the cattle he received as a
gift from the King, later on brought conflict and division between Abram and Lot,
when their herdsmen contended over the grazing pastures. This resulted in Lot
ending up on Sodom who later on had to be rescued.
Q What can we learn from this?
Personal Application: We saw from Abrahams life that the
sin he committed had consequences and those consequences
became enemies of Israel in the future. In this example, we
find the connection between the gift and the consequences,
that brought curses upon Abrahams household. This time the
enemy came through these gifts, each covered in a beautiful
wrapping, that makes the receiver excited and eager to accept
those gifts.
Sin is pleasant to the flesh, and the Serpent uses the lust of the eye to attract
people towards their yetzer harah (evil inclination) that will lead them to
bondage or destruction. Secondly, anything you receive, for example money,
that comes from an evil source or is founded in sin will bring that evil that
created it, with the gift, and will have adverse consequences. That is why it is
not good to play the Lotto because the money you receive through winning, is
attached to greed and the love of money, and will not be a blessing, but a
curse. This is why so many instant millionaires lose the money within a short
period of time. greed

The Garden of Sodom

Gen 13:5-10 Lot, who had been travelling with
Abram, also had his own sheep, cattle, and
tents.6 There wasnt enough pastureland for both of
them. They had so many possessions that they were
unable to remain together. 7 Quarrels broke out
between Abrams herders and Lots herders. 8 Abram
said to Lot, Please, lets not have any more quarrels
between us or between our herders. After all, were
relatives. 9 Isnt all this land yours also? Lets
separate. If you go to the left, Ill go to the right, and
if you go to the right, Ill go to the left.
5

10 Then

Lot looked in the direction of Zoar as far as he could see. He saw

that the whole Jordan Plain was well-watered like Yahwehs garden or
like Egypt.
Quarrels broke out among the herdsman and Abram gave
Lot the option to choose where he want to settle so that he
can locate himself elsewhere. We are all familiar with
direction and know it as North-East-South and West, but
Abram used the terms Left and Right instead. In the
Hebrew culture, Left means North, Right means South,
Ahead means East and Behind means West. Abram and
Lot were looking at the location of the Promised Land that
YHVH promised him. This Land reached from the North to
the South (Left to Right) but Lot choose the plains of the
Jordan on the East; that means he decide to live outside
the Promised Land. Lot made his choice based on what he
saw and not what YHVH had promised. The area he
chose is described as being well watered, just like the
garden of YHVH, referring to the Garden of Eden.
Q What do we learn from this?
Abram offered Lot to settle in the land of Canaan that YHVH promised, but Lot
did not choose as per YHVHs promise, acting in faith, but rather chose
according to the eye that satisfies the flesh. The lust of the eye was the same
thing that caused Eve to fall, making her choice according to what she saw, and
not according to the Word of YHVH. Paul says in 2 Cor 5:7 that we walk by faith,
not by sight, and being led by the eye is opposite to being led by YHVHs Word
or Spirit. The cycle repeated in Lots life, the same as what happened with Adam
and Eve, Lot was chased out of this Garden and fire prevented him from
returning. We all know the saying, where there is smoke, there is a fire, but in
this case, where there is sin there is fire, as seen with the destruction of
Sodom by fire.
Spiritual Insight: The enemy created a counterfeit Garden, similar to the
Garden of Eden to attract and entrap fleshly orientated people. We can refer
to this Garden as the Garden of Sodom, that provides many trees to eat
from; trees like gluttony, entertainment, a-muse-ment (no thinking),
covetousness (keeping up with the Joneses), lust, pornography, alcohol,
drugs, parties, etc.
When you eat of its fruits, you will fall to a lower state of
life called un-holiness and might be a prisoner for the
rest of your life. The issue is that YHVH will destroy this
Garden just like He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah
and all those in it, will be destroyed with it. Repent and
remove yourself from the traps and from these
attractive fruits from this garden, and rather listen and
obey than looking and sinning.
Sodom ,dc samech-dalet-mem comes from an
unused root that means, to scorch or burnt. Sodom can
be divided into two to parts making up two words.

Hebrew Study Tip

Any Hebrew word can be split
into two parts and each part
will have a meaning on its own
that will complement the
meaning of the initial word. Any
three-letter word can be
divided by grouping its first two
letters or last two letters,
making a two-letter words, and
their meanings will add wisdom
to the initial word.

The first two letters dc Samech-Dalet, is the word sod, that means, stocks or
shackles that are normally found on the ankles of a slave or prisoner. Combining
the last two letters ,d Dalet-Mem, makes the word dam, that means blood,
that is associated with death, when blood leaves the body. This gives us the
insight that Sodom represents enslavement that leads to death.
Sodoms name also reflects its destiny, meaning to scorch
and burning This is exactly what happened with Sodom, in
the end, it was judged by fire, destroying those who were
enslaved and bound inside the city, resulted in their deaths.
This is a prophetic warning to those enslaved in the Garen of
Sodom, to turn away from their wicked ways because Yshua
is coming as the judge Who will destroy the wicked by fire.
Evil is the word Rah ir Resh Ayen, r Resh means back of the head,
and the head is turned to the left, meaning the physical. Resh means human
reasoning as well and mans logic is always opposing to YHVHs thinking or
Word. Ayen i means eye, and we saw that it was the lust of the eye that
attracts people towards fleshly desires that result in them being led by the flesh,
and not by faith.
Sodom is filled with fleshly people who follow their fleshly desires, led by the lust
of the eye and they feed on the trees of sin planted in the Garden of Sodom
that leads to sin, bondage and death.
Q What will set you free from this bondage of Sin and Death?
Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the YHVH Elohim is upon me, Because YHVH has
anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind
up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to
prisoners;
Yshua read this verse in the Synagogue after being tempted in the Wilderness
for 40 days, declaring He is the Messiah, and only through Him can the captives
be set free from their sin and bondage. His Blood paid for the death penalty that
was hanging over each and everyones head. His Word and His
Commandments reveals the Will of the Father to us and His Spirit quickens our
spiritual soul (nashamah) so that we have a restored spiritual connection with
Him, walking in a new nature.
Spiritual Insight: His Blood is found in the Passover symbolism where His
Blood will cause the Angel of Death to Pass you Over. Accepting His and
His Spirit is symbolised by the Feast of Shavuot or Pentecost, where YHVHs
Commandments were received at Sinai, His Commandments being engraved
on stone. The word engraved also means freedom; a way to be liberated
from sin and bondage. His Spirit was received on the same Feast where the
same Commandments are engraved on your heart to set you free from
bondage and death. This means that YHVH gave us three things that will set
us free, all three associated with the Work of Messiah; His Blood, His
Commandments and His Spirit. You need all three to be entirely set free; His
blood gets you in the Kingdom, His Word / Commandments is His Character
and trains you up in Holiness.

His Spirit quickens your soul, Who gives you the desire and passion for
wanting to follow Him, and have a relationship with Him. If you miss only one
of these three, then you are still in bondage.

Abram Dwelled in Mamre

Gen 13:18 Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the
terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar
there to YHVH.
Mamre is the word mam-ra armm that means strength or fatness, generally
referring to the strong oak trees in Hebron. Mam-ra comes from the root word
mara that means to flap the wings as in a bird lifting off, or to beat a horse so
that it can run faster. It is also connected to a
negative meaning that speaks of lifting oneself up
as in becoming rebellious.
Spiritual Insight: Isnt that what happened in the
garden when the Serpent told Eve that they
would become like gods, be lifted or elevated to
YHVHs level, so to speak. The warning to us is
that the Garden of YHVH can still be defiled by
rebellion and pride and the House of YHVH can
be defiled by it as well.
The positive meaning of mara combined with the definition of Mamre
indicates that this garden is similar to the Garden of Eden where man could
grow up to become strong and mature, growing into the likeness of YHVH,
but not overthrowing His Authority. Note that Abrams name was not yet
changed to Abraham, and indicates to us that this new dwelling place
Abram entered, allowed, was the perfect environment that made his name
change or character change possible.
Mamre is in Canaan (Gen 12:6) and is
described to be a place with strong terabinth
or oak trees. Canaan is better known as the
Promised Land and associated with the
Kingdom and the Garden of Eden state; that
will be restored after Yshuas second
coming. We looked Sodom described as a
garden, similar to the Garden of Eden; a
counterfeit garden has trees that bear fruit of
destruction. This gives us the connection to
the garden concept, and we can read it as
follows; Abram lived in Hebron by the terebinth trees in (the garden of ) Mamre.
This garden also had trees, similar to the trees in the garden of Eden.
Terebinth is the word elon ]vla that is translated as planes, terebinth and
very strong tree. It comes from the root word ayil that means, strong tree,
mighty men, strong leader, doorpost, ram. This word is first found in Scripture in
Gen 15:9 where YHVH made the blood Covenant with Abram. (Note: his name
was not changed to Abraham yet). We will look at this Covenant in detail in the
next section. This strong tree represents the Tree of Life and the Covenant.
8

This Garden of Mamre is in Canaan, east of Shechem, representing the

Kingdom or Promised Land. Mamre is the place where Abram build an Altar
unto YHVH (Gen 13:18). Mamre is the place where YHVH visited Abram and
spoke with Him prior to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen 18:1).
Mamre is a elevated place (tower) where Abram was strengthened (mam-ra),
to become a strong leader (ayil):
Psalm 61:2-3 From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is
faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a
refuge for me, A tower of strength against the enemy.
Prov 18:10 The Name of YHVH is a strong tower; The righteous runs
into it and is safe.
Spiritual Insight: The garden where Abram dwelled is also a place of
fatness and provision, the same concept we find in Matt 6 where Yshua said
that we should seek first the Kingdom of YHVH and everything you need will
be added to you. This Garden of Memre, symbolises the Kingdom, that
Abram lived in, compared to the counterfeit garden Lot lived in, namely the
Garden of Sodom. This shows us two kinds of believers in Messiah, both
acted on the promise given to Abram; one listened and obeyed, ending up in
the right environment, the other believer was like Lot, who was looking for
the best place that suits his needs, and ended up in the counterfeit Kingdom,
in bondage, tempted and endangered by sin.
Giving & Receiving: When you seek to get your needs met with the wrong
motive like Lot, then you might have your needs met, but through receiving
gifts of bondage, playing into the hand of the enemy. This is what is
dangerous about the Prosperity Teachings, they stir up the fleshly
desires of believers, triggering their yetser harah, desiring riches
from YHVH, losing balance, ending up seeking His hand instead of
His face. Desire Him and all the things you need will be added to you
besides. Matt 6:31-33. You get two types of people in this world, givers
and takers. YHVH is a giver, and if we are to become like Him, we should be
giving, not expecting something back. Otherwise you have become a taker
through your giving. Taking is an attribute that is found in worldly people as
well as immature believers, giving on the other hand, is part of a mature
believers nature as he/she grows up to become like the Father.

Melchizedek and the Covenant

Gen 14:18-20 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread
and wine; he was the priest of El Most High. 19 And he blessed him and
said: Blessed be Abram of Elohim Most High, Possessor of heaven and
earth; 20 And blessed be Elohim Most High, Who has delivered your
enemies into your hand.
Melchizedek was the King of Salem or Shalom (peace) of El Most High. El la
is the short form for Elohim and means strength, mighty as well as Immanuel.
This gives us the connection between Melchizedek and Messiah Yshua Who is
called Immanuel. Melchizedek qdo yklm consists of two parts Melech

;lm that means King, and Tzadik qdo that means Righteous.
9

This shows the two offices of Messiah; King (Prince of Peace) and Priest
(Righteous One). To represent Elohim in His fullness, He needs to be
Messenger (Word), Judge and King. Comparing Melchizedeks attributes with
that of Yshua; he still needs to become the Judge, Who will judge the world by
the standard of His Word. He also needs to become the Messenger or the sent
one, the Word Who needs to rectify the corrupted Word of YHVH and the one
Who have to face death, because of the Covenant He made with humanity
through Abraham.
Melchizedek was the High Priest of YHVH, the King of Peace who met with
Abraham to eat bread and drink wine, which is the sign of the Blood Covenant of
Messiah, representing Salvation. This is, if you like, a peek into the future
where Melchizedek met with Abraham and ate the Covenant meal with Him
prophetically. Melchizedek represents the Covenant of Peace that YHVH ate
with Abram that will be established after the Work of the Messiah is complete,
fulfilling all three of His offices as Elohim, as symbolised through the Seven
Festivals. This Covenant of Peace extends to everyone who partakes in the
Bread of Life and the wine or Blood that brings Life so that they can
experience YHVHs peace and eternal life.

The Blood Covenant made with Abram

Before YHVH made the Covenant with Abram He told him the result or
purpose of this Covenant.
Gen 15:1-7 After these things the word of YHVH came
unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am
thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. 2 And Abram
said, YHVH Elohim, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the
steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? 3 And Abram said,
Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is
mine heir. 4 And, behold, the Word of YHVH came unto him, saying,
This shall not be your heir; but he that shall come forth out of your own
bowels shall be your heir. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said,
Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number
them: and he said unto him, So shall your seed be. 6 And he believed in
YHVH; and he counted it to him for righteousness. 7 And he said unto him,
I am YHVH that brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this
land to inherit it.
YHVH told Abram that He is his exceedingly Great Reward, in other words, you
get Him. We see salvation as going to Heaven when we die and live in a
mansion He prepared for us. Firstly, we are not going to Heaven; the heaven
experience will be living in the New Jerusalem, that will come down from
heaven. Secondly, the goal of our salvation and the end reward we will get is
YHVH Himself, and our focus should not be on the heavenly things we will
receive in the Kingdom, but rather the Relationship we will have with Him.
We read in verse 4 that the Word of YHVH came to Abram, as if it was a
person. What is interesting is that YHVH Created through Words and He
decided to repair and restore His Creation through Words as well, sending
the Word of YHVH in the form of a sinless Man, Yshua the Messiah.

10

After these words, YHVH promised Abram an offspring that will become a great
nation as well as a land, that his offspring will inherit.
The next promise to Abram was a King, the Seed (Singular) Who will come
through his seed (plural), Who will rule over this great nation. In other words,
YHVH gave Abram a people, a Land and a King, all that is still required is the
Government for this new Kingdom that is promised to Abraham. This
Government will be given through Moses later on, in the form of the Torah by
which this King will rule the people.
Gen 15:9-10, 17-18 So He said to him, Bring
Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old
female goat, a three-year-old ram, a
turtledove, and a young pigeon. 10 Then he
brought all these to Him and cut them in two,
down the middle, and placed each piece
opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds
in two. 17 And it came to pass, when the sun
went down and it was dark, that behold, there
appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch
that passed between those pieces. 18 On the
same day YHVH made a covenant with Abram.
In ancient times, when a blood Covenant was made they killed animals by
splitting them in half, putting the pieces opposite each other, and then the
people entering into a covenant, walked in between these split pieces in the
form of a figure-eight.
If either of them broke any of the conditions of this Covenant, that person had to
die and end up like the animals used to cut this Covenant. It was a very serious
matter, a matter of life and death, keeping your side of the deal. YHVH entered
into a Blood Covenant with Abram while he was asleep, indicating that He made
the Covenant with Himself, on behalf of Abram. This means that if any of the two
participants, YHVH or Abram (and his seed) broke any of the conditions of this
Covenant, then YHVH must die. This is exactly what happened, Abrams seed
broke the Covenant, and YHVH had to keep His Word by sending Yshua to die
for the sins of man, all those who became part of Israel.
The important point to note here is that this Covenant only applies to Abrahams
seed, that is Israel, and you must be grafted into Israel to enter into, and
benefit from this Covenant.
Prophetic Insight: Yshua died for the whole world, and that means that the
invitation is open for anybody in the world to become part of Israel (not
become Jewish or part of Judah only), to access this Covenant of Grace.
Adam sinned, and Adams seed (seed of the woman) have the chance to be
restored through this Covenant YHVH made with Abram. You are not chosen
or special that made you a believer, all are chosen, but only a few acts on the
invitation and choose YHVH.

The Bigger Picture

The concept of a Covenant is a foundational principle of our faith, and this is the
way YHVH reached into the Physical Realm to rectify what sin has corrupted
within His Creation. We saw last week that the First Covenant was made with
Noah and this Covenant has to do with Judgement. The Covenant made with
Abram is the Second Covenant mentioned in Scripture and has to do with Grace
and Salvation as well as judgement. Those who refuse to become part of this
Covenant will not receive YHVHs grace. This means that the Covenant of Abram
is an extension of the Covenant of Noah, the next step in the redemption and
restoration work by the Messiah.
A Covenant has two functions, firstly it acts as a sign or reminder, and secondly,
it put something in place so that the gap between YHVH and humanity can be
reduced and ultimately removed. The Covenant YHVH made with Noah served
as a physical sign that reminds YHVHs people of past and future judgements,
to remind them always to be prepared. This is like the two covers of a book, the
front and back cover that package the rest of the contents of this Covenant.
Q Why is YHVHs Covenant packaged in Judgement?
It is because of sin and the fallen world outside the covers of this Covenant,
that is a sign to those on the outside, to show them what will happen if you are
not inside this Covenant, written in this Book.
The Covenant with Abram is the first page of this
Book and is titled Salvation. This is not the only
page in this Book of the Covenant, YHVH revealed
the rest of the pages from Abraham, right through
to Messiah. There is a total of 5 pages or
Covenants inside this Book, between the two
covers of judgement. The number 5 means
Grace, and you must be in this Covenant to
receive His Grace. We will now briefly study these
Covenants:
0. Judgement - Noah (the Noahic Covenant)
symbolised by the Rainbow Judgment,
destruction by water and by fire. This is a physical sign everyone can
see. This is the Covenant promise to those outside the Book of the
Covenant (the Noahic Covenant represents the Covers of this Book)
1. People - Abraham (the Abrahamic Covenant) symbolised by the Stars
(Salvation extended to the whole world, first to Israel)
2. Government - Moses (the Mosaic Covenant) symbolised by the Two
Tablets and the Torah - Government
3. Land - David (the Davidic Covenant) symbolised by Jerusalem - Land
4. King - Messiah Yshua (the New Covenant of Peace) symbolised by the
Passover Cup and Bread & Shavuot, receiving of His Spirit - King of
kings
5. Peace Melchizedek, Prince of Peace Eternal Life, Rest. Abraham met
Melchizedek and partook in the symbolism of the Work of Messiah (Aleph
Beginning, fist page), and he is now seen as the last Covenant
promise, the end goal of this Covenant, the last words on the last page of
this Book (Tav end, last page).
12

What you will notice is that the Covenant pages represent the requirements for
the Kingdom; there must be a Land, people living in the Land under the rule of a
King. The King rules by the authority of His Government and those who entered
in and submitted to this King, they will inherit eternal life and live with Him in His
peace and rest. Those who reject His Covenant will only see what Noahs
Covenant represents; the final judgement and cleaning of the world so that
YHVHs Kingdom can be established on the earth.

Changing Abrams Name

Gen 17:1-8 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, YHVH appeared to
Abram and said to him, I am El Shaddai; walk before Me and be
blameless. 2 And I will make My Covenant between Me and you, and will
multiply you exceedingly. 3 Then Abram fell on his face, and Elohim
talked with him, saying: 4 As for Me, behold, My Covenant is with you,
and you shall be a father of many nations. 5 No longer shall your name
be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made
you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful;
and I will make nations of you, and kings shall

Hebrew Study Tip 2

The Hebrew language is the
only language and its letters are
similar to the elements making
up our physical world. Every
letter has a meaning and adding
that letter to a word (object or
person), is similar to changing
that word or objects molecular
structure, making it something
else or something new.

When Moses was called to lead Israel out of Egypt, he asked YHVH to reveal
his Name. The primary purpose behind this is, not to know how to pronounce
His Name, but rather know Who He is, showing His Character. What we see in
the Scripture, time and time again, is that YHVH changes the names of some of
His people. Have you ever wondered why YHVH changed someones name?
YHVH generally changes someones name after He called them, and that
means that their character and destiny will be changed accordingly.
13

YHVH stipulated in His Word that our names will be changed as well, each
receiving a new name when we enter His Kingdom after the Second Coming.
Abrams name contains the elements of YHVHs Plan for his life. Abram ,rba
means high father and is a homophone of the word Abrim ,yrbi that
means regions beyond. When you remove the mem , it makes up the word
ibree yrbi that means one from beyond, that is the basis of the word
Hebrew, where it confirms in Gen 14:13 that Abram was the first Hebrew. We
see from Abrams name that the plan YHVH had for him, built into his name, all
he had to do was to act on it to make it a reality in his life.
Personal Application: In the same way as with Abram, YHVH has a plan for
your life, and it can become your destiny if you adhere to His Word so that He
can reveal the details to you through a relationship with Him. You cannot sit
on your hands and think that this plan will happen automatically, no, you have
to actively pursue YHVH and walk in the truth He reveals to you in His Word
in order to manifest His plan and destiny in your life.
Later on on YHVH changed Abram's "high father" name to Abraham, "father of
a multitude" (Genesis 17:5) and his wife's name from Sarai yrs, my
princess, to Sarah, hrs mother of nations (Genesis 17:15). This name
change was done by adding a Hey h to create Abraham ,hrba Hey h
means light and revelation as well as breath because of the sound it makes.
Spiritual Insight: These are attributes of YHVHs Spirit because through His
Spirit He reveals the Truth (light) to his people and restores the breath of life
(nashamah) back to man. YHVH similarly changed Sarais name to Sarah by
adding a Hey as well, indicating that he works with the total human, the
combination of husband and wife to fulfil His plan on the earth.
It is good if only the husband or the wife is anointed
by YHVH but it is very powerful if both the husband
and the wife are anointed, and work as a unity
within the Kingdom of YHVH. Abraham would not
have achieved what he has done without the
support and anointing of his wife, Sarah. This
emphasises the fact that YHVH want both the
husband and the wife be in unity regarding their
faith as well as both being anointed by YHVH,
complimenting each other, working as a team in
the Kingdom.
